4 Since thou wast precious H3365 in my sight, H5869 thou hast been honourable, H3513 and I have loved H157 thee: therefore will I give H5414 men H120 for thee, and people H3816 for thy life. H5315
Now therefore, if ye will obey H8085 my voice H6963 indeed, H8085 and keep H8104 my covenant, H1285 then ye shall be a peculiar treasure H5459 unto me above all people: H5971 for all the earth H776 is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom H4467 of priests, H3548 and an holy H6918 nation. H1471 These are the words H1697 which thou shalt speak H1696 unto the children H1121 of Israel. H3478
For the LORD'S H3068 portion H2506 is his people; H5971 Jacob H3290 is the lot H2256 of his inheritance. H5159 He found H4672 him in a desert H4057 land, H776 and in the waste H8414 howling H3214 wilderness; H3452 he led him about, H5437 he instructed H995 him, he kept H5341 him as the apple H380 of his eye. H5869 As an eagle H5404 stirreth up H5782 her nest, H7064 fluttereth H7363 over her young, H1469 spreadeth abroad H6566 her wings, H3671 taketh H3947 them, beareth H5375 them on her wings: H84 So the LORD H3068 alone H910 did lead H5148 him, and there was no strange H5236 god H410 with him. He made him ride H7392 on the high places H1116 of the earth, H776 that he might eat H398 the increase H8570 of the fields; H7704 and he made him to suck H3243 honey H1706 out of the rock, H5553 and oil H8081 out of the flinty H2496 rock; H6697 Butter H2529 of kine, H1241 and milk H2461 of sheep, H6629 with fat H2459 of lambs, H3733 and rams H352 of the breed H1121 of Bashan, H1316 and goats, H6260 with the fat H2459 of kidneys H3629 of wheat; H2406 and thou didst drink H8354 the pure H2561 blood H1818 of the grape. H6025
Behold, G2400 I will make G1325 them of G1537 the synagogue G4864 of Satan, G4567 which G3588 say G3004 they G1438 are G1511 Jews, G2453 and G2532 are G1526 not, G3756 but G235 do lie; G5574 behold, G2400 I will make G4160 them G846 to G2443 come G2240 and G2532 worship G4352 before G1799 thy G4675 feet, G4228 and G2532 to know G1097 that G3754 I G1473 have loved G25 thee. G4571
But G1161 ye G5210 are a chosen G1588 generation, G1085 a royal G934 priesthood, G2406 an holy G40 nation, G1484 a peculiar G1519 G4047 people; G2992 that G3704 ye should shew forth G1804 the praises G703 of him who hath called G2564 you G5209 out of G1537 darkness G4655 into G1519 his G846 marvellous G2298 light: G5457
That G2443 the trial G1383 of your G5216 faith, G4102 being much G4183 more precious G5093 than of gold G5553 that perisheth, G622 though G1223 G1161 it be tried G1381 with fire, G4442 might be found G2147 unto G1519 praise G1868 and G2532 honour G5092 and G2532 glory G1391 at G1722 the appearing G602 of Jesus G2424 Christ: G5547
For thou art an holy H6918 people H5971 unto the LORD H3068 thy God: H430 the LORD H3068 thy God H430 hath chosen H977 thee to be a special H5459 people H5971 unto himself, above all people H5971 that are upon the face H6440 of the earth. H127 The LORD H3068 did not set his love H2836 upon you, nor choose H977 you, because ye were more H7230 in number than any people; H5971 for ye were the fewest H4592 of all people: H5971 But because the LORD H3068 loved H160 you, and because he would keep H8104 the oath H7621 which he had sworn H7650 unto your fathers, H1 hath the LORD H3068 brought you out H3318 with a mighty H2389 hand, H3027 and redeemed H6299 you out of the house H1004 of bondmen, H5650 from the hand H3027 of Pharaoh H6547 king H4428 of Egypt. H4714
And G2532 I have declared G1107 unto them G846 thy G4675 name, G3686 and G2532 will declare G1107 it: that G2443 the love G26 wherewith G3739 thou hast loved G25 me G3165 may be G5600 in G1722 them, G846 and I G2504 in G1722 them. G846
I G1473 in G1722 them, G846 and G2532 thou G4771 in G1722 me, G1698 that G2443 they may be G5600 made perfect G5048 in G1519 one; G1520 and G2532 that G2443 the world G2889 may know G1097 that G3754 thou G4771 hast sent G649 me, G3165 and G2532 hast loved G25 them, G846 as G2531 thou hast loved G25 me. G1691
How G4459 can G1410 ye G5210 believe, G4100 which receive G2983 honour G1391 one of another, G3844 G240 and G2532 seek G2212 not G3756 the honour G1391 that cometh from G3844 God G2316 only? G3441
When Israel H3478 was a child, H5288 then I loved H157 him, and called H7121 my son H1121 out of Egypt. H4714
The LORD H3068 hath appeared H7200 of old H7350 unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved H157 thee with an everlasting H5769 love: H160 therefore with lovingkindness H2617 have I drawn H4900 thee.
For the LORD H3050 hath chosen H977 Jacob H3290 unto himself, and Israel H3478 for his peculiar treasure. H5459

Commentary on Isaiah 43 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 43
The contents of this chapter are much the same with those of the foregoing chapter, looking at the release of the Jews out of their captivity, but looking through that, and beyond that, to the great work of man's redemption by Jesus Christ, and the grace of the gospel, which through him believers partake of. Here are,
Isa 43:1-7
This chapter has a plain connexion with the close of the foregoing chapter, but a very surprising one. It was there said that Jacob and Israel would not walk in God's ways, and that when he corrected them for their disobedience they were stubborn and laid it not to heart; and now one would think it should have followed that God would utterly abandon and destroy them; but no, the next words are, But now, fear not, O Jacob! O Israel! I have redeemed thee, and thou art mine. Though many among them were untractable and incorrigible, yet God would continue his love and care for his people, and the body of that nation should still be reserved for mercy. God's goodness takes occasion from man's badness to appear so much the more illustrious. Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound (Rom. 5:20), and mercy rejoices against judgment, as having prevailed and carried the day, Jam. 2:13. Now the sun, breaking out thus of a sudden from behind a thick and dark cloud, shines the brighter, and with a pleasing surprise. The expressions of God's favour and good-will to his people here are very high, and speak abundance of comfort to all the spiritual seed of upright Jacob and praying Israel; for to us is this gospel preached as well as unto those that were captives in Babylon, Heb. 4:2. Here we have,
Isa 43:8-13
God here challenges the worshippers of idols to produce such proofs of the divinity of their false gods as even this very instance (to go no further) of the redemption of the Jews out of Babylon furnished the people of Israel with, to prove that their God is the true and living God, and he only.
Isa 43:14-21
To so low an ebb were the faith and hope of God's people in Babylon brought that there needed line upon line to assure them that they should be released out of their captivity; and therefore, that they might have strong consolation, the assurances of it are often repeated, and here very expressly and encouragingly.
Isa 43:22-28
This charge (and a high charge it is which is here exhibited against Jacob and Israel, God's professing people) comes in here,
