13 For G1063 he shall have judgment G2920 without mercy, G448 that hath shewed G4160 no G3361 mercy; G1656 and G2532 mercy G1656 rejoiceth against G2620 judgment. G2920
But G1161 the same G1565 servant G1401 went out, G1831 and found G2147 one G1520 of his G846 fellowservants, G4889 which G3739 owed G3784 him G846 an hundred G1540 pence: G1220 and G2532 he laid hands G2902 on him, G846 and took him by the throat, G4155 saying, G3004 Pay G591 me G3427 that G3748 thou owest. G3784 And G3767 his G846 fellowservant G4889 fell down G4098 at G1519 his G846 feet, G4228 and besought G3870 him, G846 saying, G3004 Have patience G3114 with G1909 me, G1698 and G2532 I will pay G591 thee G4671 all. G3956 And G1161 he would G2309 not: G3756 but G235 went G565 and cast G906 him G846 into G1519 prison, G5438 till G2193 G3757 he should pay G591 the debt. G3784 So G1161 when his G846 fellowservants G4889 saw G1492 what was done, G1096 they were very G4970 sorry, G3076 and G2532 came G2064 and told G1285 unto their G846 lord G2962 all G3956 that was done. G1096 Then G5119 his G846 lord, G2962 after that he had called G4341 him, G846 said G3004 unto him, G846 O thou wicked G4190 servant, G1401 I forgave G863 thee G4671 all G3956 that G1565 debt, G3782 because G1893 thou desiredst G3870 me: G3165 Shouldest G1163 not G3756 thou G4571 also G2532 have had compassion G1653 on thy G4675 fellowservant, G4889 even G2532 as G5613 I G1473 had pity G1653 on thee? G4571 And G2532 his G846 lord G2962 was wroth, G3710 and delivered G3860 him G846 to the tormentors, G930 till G2193 G3757 he should pay G591 all G3956 that was due G3784 unto him. G846 So G3779 likewise shall my G3450 heavenly G2032 Father G3962 do G4160 also G2532 unto you, G5213 if G3362 ye from G575 your G5216 hearts G2588 forgive G863 not G3362 every one G1538 his G846 brother G80 their G846 trespasses. G3900
Then G5119 shall he say G2046 also G2532 unto them on G1537 the left hand, G2176 Depart G4198 from G575 me, G1700 ye cursed, G2672 into G1519 everlasting G166 fire, G4442 prepared G2090 for the devil G1228 and G2532 his G846 angels: G32 For G1063 I was an hungred, G3983 and G2532 ye gave G1325 me G3427 no G3756 meat: G5315 I was thirsty, G1372 and G2532 ye gave G4222 me G3165 no G3756 drink: G4222 I was G2252 a stranger, G3581 and G2532 ye took G4863 me G3165 not G3756 in: G4863 naked, G1131 and G2532 ye clothed G4016 me G3165 not: G3756 sick, G772 and G2532 in G1722 prison, G5438 and G2532 ye visited G1980 me G3165 not. G3756 Then G5119 shall they G846 also G2532 answer G611 him, G846 saying, G3004 Lord, G2962 when G4219 saw we G1492 thee G4571 an hungred, G3983 or G2228 athirst, G1372 or G2228 a stranger, G3581 or G2228 naked, G1131 or G2228 sick, G772 or G2228 in G1722 prison, G5438 and G2532 did G1247 not G3756 minister G1247 unto thee? G4671 Then G5119 shall he answer G611 them, G846 saying, G3004 Verily G281 I say G3004 unto you, G5213 Inasmuch G1909 as G3745 ye did G4160 it not G3756 to one G1520 of the least G1646 of these, G5130 ye did G4160 it not G3761 to me. G1698 And G2532 these G3778 shall go away G565 into G1519 everlasting G166 punishment: G2851 but G1161 the righteous G1342 into G1519 life G2222 eternal. G166
He that loveth G25 not G3361 knoweth G1097 not G3756 God; G2316 for G3754 God G2316 is G2076 love. G26 In G1722 this G5129 was manifested G5319 the love G26 of God G2316 toward G1722 us, G2254 because G3754 that God G2316 sent G649 his G846 only begotten G3439 Son G5207 into G1519 the world, G2889 that G2443 we might live G2198 through G1223 him. G846 Herein G1722 G5129 is G2076 love, G26 not G3754 that G3756 we G2249 loved G25 God, G2316 but G235 that G3754 he G846 loved G25 us, G2248 and G2532 sent G649 his G846 Son G5207 to be the propitiation G2434 for G4012 our G2257 sins. G266 Beloved, G27 if G1487 God G2316 so G3779 loved G25 us, G2248 we G2249 ought G3784 also G2532 to love G25 one another. G240 No man G3762 hath seen G2300 God G2316 at any time. G4455 If G1437 we love G25 one another, G240 God G2316 dwelleth G3306 in G1722 us, G2254 and G2532 his G846 love G26 is G2076 perfected G5048 in G1722 us. G2254 Hereby G1722 G5129 know we G1097 that G3754 we dwell G3306 in G1722 him, G846 and G2532 he G846 in G1722 us, G2254 because G3754 he hath given G1325 us G2254 of G1537 his G846 Spirit. G4151 And G2532 we G2249 have seen G2300 and G2532 do testify G3140 that G3754 the Father G3962 sent G649 the Son G5207 to be the Saviour G4990 of the world. G2889 Whosoever G3739 G302 shall confess G3670 that G3754 Jesus G2424 is G2076 the Son G5207 of God, G2316 God G2316 dwelleth G3306 in G1722 him, G846 and G2532 he G846 in G1722 God. G2316 And G2532 we G2249 have known G1097 and G2532 believed G4100 the love G26 that G3739 God G2316 hath G2192 to G1722 us. G2254 God G2316 is G2076 love; G26 and G2532 he that dwelleth G3306 in G1722 love G26 dwelleth G3306 in G1722 God, G2316 and G2532 God G2316 in G1722 him. G846
But G1161 God, G2316 who is G5607 rich G4145 in G1722 mercy, G1656 for G1223 his G846 great G4183 love G26 wherewith G3739 he loved G25 us, G2248 Even G2532 when we G2248 were G5607 dead G3498 in sins, G3900 hath quickened us together with G4806 Christ, G5547 (by grace G5485 ye are G2075 saved;) G4982 And G2532 hath raised us up together, G4891 and G2532 made us sit together G4776 in G1722 heavenly G2032 places in G1722 Christ G5547 Jesus: G2424 That G2443 in G1722 the ages G165 to come G1904 he might shew G1731 the exceeding G5235 riches G4149 of his G846 grace G5485 in G1722 his kindness G5544 toward G1909 us G2248 through G1722 Christ G5547 Jesus. G2424
Judge G2919 not, G3361 that G3363 ye be G2919 not G3363 judged. G2919 For G1722 with G3739 what G1063 judgment G2917 ye judge, G2919 ye shall be judged: G2919 and G2532 with G1722 what G3739 measure G3358 ye mete, G3354 it shall be measured G488 to you G5213 again. G488
For thou hast taken a pledge H2254 from thy brother H251 for nought, H2600 and stripped H6584 the naked H6174 of their clothing. H899 Thou hast not given water H4325 to the weary H5889 to drink, H8248 and thou hast withholden H4513 bread H3899 from the hungry. H7457 But as for the mighty H2220 man, H376 he had the earth; H776 and the honourable man H5375 H6440 dwelt H3427 in it. Thou hast sent H7971 widows H490 away empty, H7387 and the arms H2220 of the fatherless H3490 have been broken. H1792 Therefore snares H6341 are round about H5439 thee, and sudden H6597 fear H6343 troubleth H926 thee;
There is G2076 no G3756 fear G5401 in G1722 love; G26 but G235 perfect G5046 love G26 casteth G906 out G1854 fear: G5401 because G3754 fear G5401 hath G2192 torment. G2851 G1161 He that feareth G5399 is G5048 not G3756 made perfect G5048 in G1722 love. G26 We G2249 love G25 him, G846 because G3754 he G846 first G4413 loved G25 us. G2248
To G1519 the praise G1868 of the glory G1391 of his G846 grace, G5485 wherein G1722 G3739 he hath made G5487 us G2248 accepted G5487 in G1722 the beloved. G25 In G1722 whom G3739 we have G2192 redemption G629 through G1223 his G846 blood, G129 the forgiveness G859 of sins, G3900 according G2596 to the riches G4149 of his G846 grace; G5485

Commentary on James 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
In this chapter the apostle condemns a sinful regarding of the rich, and despising the poor, which he imputes to partiality and injustice, and shows it to be an acting contrary to God, who has chosen the poor, and whose interest is often persecuted, and his name blasphemed, by the rich (v. 1-7). He shows that the whole law is to be fulfilled, and that mercy should be followed, as well as justice (v. 8-13). He exposes the error and folly of those who boast of faith without works, telling us that this is but a dead faith, and such a faith as devils have, not the faith of Abraham, or of Rahab (v. 14-26).
Jam 2:1-7
The apostle is here reproving a very corrupt practice. He shows how much mischief there is in the sin of prosoµpoleµpsia-respect of persons, which seemed to be a very growing evil in the churches of Christ even in those early ages, and which, in these after-times, has sadly corrupted and divided Christian nations and societies. Here we have,
Jam 2:8-13
The apostle, having condemned the sin of those who had an undue respect of persons, and having urged what was sufficient to convict them of the greatness of this evil, now proceeds to show how the matter may be mended; it is the work of a gospel ministry, not only to reprove and warn, but to teach and direct. Col. 1:28, Warning every man, and teaching every man. And here,
Jam 2:14-26
In this latter part of the chapter, the apostle shows the error of those who rested in a bare profession of the Christian faith, as if that would save them, while the temper of their minds and the tenour of their lives were altogether disagreeable to that holy religion which they professed. To let them see, therefore, what a wretched foundation they built their hopes upon, it is here proved at large that a man is justified, not by faith only, but by works. Now,
