2 Then spake H559 Azariah H5838 the son H1121 of Hoshaiah, H1955 and Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah, H7143 and all the proud H2086 men, H582 saying H559 unto Jeremiah, H3414 Thou speakest H1696 falsely: H8267 the LORD H3068 our God H430 hath not sent H7971 thee to say, H559 Go H935 not into Egypt H4714 to sojourn H1481 there:
They have belied H3584 the LORD, H3068 and said, H559 It is not he; neither shall evil H7451 come H935 upon us; neither shall we see H7200 sword H2719 nor famine: H7458 And the prophets H5030 shall become wind, H7307 and the word H1696 is not in them: thus shall it be done H6213 unto them.
Behold, his soul H5315 which is lifted up H6075 is not upright H3474 in him: but the just H6662 shall live H2421 by his faith. H530 Yea also, because he transgresseth H898 by wine, H3196 he is a proud H3093 man, H1397 neither keepeth at home, H5115 who enlargeth H7337 his desire H5315 as hell, H7585 and is as death, H4194 and cannot be satisfied, H7646 but gathereth H622 unto him all nations, H1471 and heapeth H6908 unto him all people: H5971
Moreover Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah, H7143 and all the captains H8269 of the forces H2428 that were in the fields, H7704 came H935 to Gedaliah H1436 to Mizpah, H4708 And said H559 unto him, Dost thou certainly H3045 know H3045 that Baalis H1185 the king H4428 of the Ammonites H1121 H5983 hath sent H7971 Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah H5418 to slay H5221 H5315 thee? But Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam H296 believed H539 them not. Then Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah H7143 spake H559 to Gedaliah H1436 in Mizpah H4709 secretly, H5643 saying, H559 Let me go, H3212 I pray thee, and I will slay H5221 Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah, H5418 and no man H376 shall know H3045 it: wherefore should he slay H5221 H5315 thee, that all the Jews H3064 which are gathered H6908 unto thee should be scattered, H6327 and the remnant H7611 in Judah H3063 perish? H6 But Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam H296 said H559 unto Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah, H7143 Thou shalt not do H6213 this thing: H1697 for thou speakest H1696 falsely H8267 of Ishmael. H3458
And all the people H5971 shall know, H3045 even Ephraim H669 and the inhabitant H3427 of Samaria, H8111 that say H559 in the pride H1346 and stoutness H1433 of heart, H3824 The bricks H3843 are fallen down, H5307 but we will build H1129 with hewn stones: H1496 the sycomores H8256 are cut down, H1438 but we will change H2498 them into cedars. H730
Pride H1347 goeth before H6440 destruction, H7667 and an haughty H1363 spirit H7307 before H6440 a fall. H3783 Better H2896 it is to be of an humble H8217 spirit H7307 with the lowly, H6035 H6041 than to divide H2505 the spoil H7998 with the proud. H1343
The wicked, H7563 through the pride H1363 of his countenance, H639 will not seek H1875 after God: God H430 is not in all his thoughts. H4209 His ways H1870 are always H6256 grievous; H2342 thy judgments H4941 are far above H4791 out of his sight: as for all his enemies, H6887 he puffeth H6315 at them.

Commentary on Jeremiah 43 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 43
Jeremiah had faithfully delivered his message from God in the foregoing chapter, and the case was made so very plain by it that one would have thought there needed no more words about it; but we find it quite otherwise. Here is,
Jer 43:1-7
What God said to the builders of Babel may be truly said of this people that Jeremiah is now dealing with: Now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do, Gen. 11:6. They have a fancy for Egypt, and to Egypt they will go, whatever God himself says to the contrary. Jeremiah made them hear all he had to say, though he saw them uneasy at it; it was what the Lord their God had sent him to speak to them, and they shall have it all. And now let us see what they have to say to it.
Jer 43:8-13
We have here, as also in the next chapter, Jeremiah prophesying in Egypt. Jeremiah was now in Tahpanhes, for there his lords and masters were; he was there among idolatrous Egyptians and treacherous Israelites; but there,
