4 Therefore I said, H559 Surely these are poor; H1800 they are foolish: H2973 for they know H3045 not the way H1870 of the LORD, H3068 nor the judgment H4941 of their God. H430
Yea, the stork H2624 in the heaven H8064 knoweth H3045 her appointed times; H4150 and the turtle H8449 and the crane H5483 and the swallow H5693 observe H8104 the time H6256 of their coming; H935 but my people H5971 know H3045 not the judgment H4941 of the LORD. H3068
My people H5971 are destroyed H1820 for lack of knowledge: H1847 because thou hast rejected H3988 knowledge, H1847 I will also reject H3988 thee, that thou shalt be no priest H3547 to me: seeing thou hast forgotten H7911 the law H8451 of thy God, H430 I will also forget H7911 thy children. H1121
When the boughs H7105 thereof are withered, H3001 they shall be broken off: H7665 the women H802 come, H935 and set them on fire: H215 for it is a people H5971 of no understanding: H998 therefore he that made H6213 them will not have mercy H7355 on them, and he that formed H3335 them will shew them no favour. H2603
The blind G5185 receive their sight, G308 and G2532 the lame G5560 walk, G4043 the lepers G3015 are cleansed, G2511 and G2532 the deaf G2974 hear, G191 the dead G3498 are raised up, G1453 and G2532 the poor G4434 have the gospel preached to them. G2097
Whom shall he teach H3384 knowledge? H1844 and whom shall he make to understand H995 doctrine? H8052 them that are weaned H1580 from the milk, H2461 and drawn H6267 from the breasts. H7699 For precept H6673 must be upon precept, H6673 precept H6673 upon precept; H6673 line H6957 upon line, H6957 line H6957 upon line; H6957 here a little, H2191 and there a little: H2191 For with stammering H3934 lips H8193 and another H312 tongue H3956 will he speak H1696 to this people. H5971 To whom he said, H559 This is the rest H4496 wherewith ye may cause the weary H5889 to rest; H5117 and this is the refreshing: H4774 yet they would H14 not hear. H8085 But the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 was unto them precept H6673 upon precept, H6673 precept H6673 upon precept; H6673 line H6957 upon line, H6957 line H6957 upon line; H6957 here a little, H2191 and there a little; H2191 that they might go, H3212 and fall H3782 backward, H268 and be broken, H7665 and snared, H3369 and taken. H3920
Behold, ye trust H982 in lying H8267 words, H1697 that cannot profit. H3276

Commentary on Jeremiah 5 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 5
Reproof for sin and threatenings of judgment are intermixed in this chapter, and are set the one over against the other: judgments are threatened, that the reproofs of sin might be the more effectual to bring them to repentance; sin is discovered, that God might be justified in the judgments threatened.
This was the scope and purport of Jeremiah's preaching in the latter end of Josiah's reign and the beginning of Jehoiakim's; but the success of it did not answer expectation.

Jer 5:10-19
We may observe in these verses, as before,
Jer 5:20-24
The prophet, having reproved them for sin and threatened the judgments of God against them, is here sent to them again upon another errand, which he must publish in Judah; the purport of it is to persuade them to fear God, which would be an effectual principle of their reformation, as the want of that fear had been at the bottom of their apostasy.
