32 That G2443 the saying G3056 of Jesus G2424 might be fulfilled, G4137 which G3739 he spake, G2036 signifying G4591 what G4169 death G2288 he should G3195 die. G599
And G2532 shall deliver G3860 him G846 to the Gentiles G1484 to G1519 mock, G1702 and G2532 to scourge, G3146 and G2532 to crucify G4717 him: and G2532 the third G5154 day G2250 he shall rise again. G450
And I, G2504 if G1437 I be lifted up G5312 from G1537 the earth, G1093 will draw G1670 all G3956 men unto G4314 me. G1683 G1161 This G5124 he said, G3004 signifying G4591 what G4169 death G2288 he should G3195 die. G599
For G1063 he shall be delivered G3860 unto the Gentiles, G1484 and G2532 shall be mocked, G1702 and G2532 spitefully entreated, G5195 and G2532 spitted on: G1716 And G2532 they shall scourge G3146 him, and put G615 him G846 to death: G615 and G2532 the third G5154 day G2250 he shall rise again. G450
His body H5038 shall not remain all night H3885 upon the tree, H6086 but thou shalt in any wise H6912 bury H6912 him that day; H3117 (for he that is hanged H8518 is accursed H7045 of God;) H430 that thy land H127 be not defiled, H2930 which the LORD H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 thee for an inheritance. H5159
For dogs H3611 have compassed H5437 me: the assembly H5712 of the wicked H7489 have inclosed H5362 me: they pierced H3738 H738 my hands H3027 and my feet. H7272
Saying, G3754 Behold, G2400 we go up G305 to G1519 Jerusalem; G2414 and G2532 the Son G5207 of man G444 shall be delivered G3860 unto the chief priests, G749 and G2532 unto the scribes; G1122 and G2532 they shall condemn G2632 him G846 to death, G2288 and G2532 shall deliver G3860 him G846 to the Gentiles: G1484
Then G5119 said G2036 Jesus G2424 unto them, G846 When G3752 ye have lifted up G5312 the Son G5207 of man, G444 then G3767 shall ye know G1097 that G3754 I G1473 am G1510 he, and G2532 that I do G4160 nothing G3762 of G575 myself; G1683 but G235 as G2531 my G3450 Father G3962 hath taught G1321 me, G3165 I speak G2980 these things. G5023
Then G3767 the Jews G2453 took up G941 stones G3037 again G3825 to G2443 stone G3034 him. G846

Commentary on John 18 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 18
Hitherto this evangelist has recorded little of the history of Christ, only so far as was requisite to introduce his discourses; but now that the time drew nigh that Jesus must die he is very particular in relating the circumstances of his sufferings, and some which the others had omitted, especially his sayings. So far were his followers from being ashamed of his cross, or endeavouring to conceal it, that this was what, both by word and writing, they were most industrious to proclaim, and gloried in it. This chapter relates,
Jhn 18:1-12
The hour was now come that the captain of our salvation, who was to be made perfect by sufferings, should engage the enemy. We have here his entrance upon the encounter. The day of recompence is in his heart, and the year of his redeemed is come, and his own arm works the salvation, for he has no second. Let us turn aside now, and see this great sight.
Jhn 18:13-27
We have here an account of Christ's arraignment before the high priest, and some circumstances that occurred therein which were omitted by the other evangelists; and Peter's denying him, which the other evangelists had given the story of entire by itself, is interwoven with the other passages. The crime laid to his charge having relation to religion, the judges of the spiritual court took it to fall directly under their cognizance. Both Jews and Gentiles seized him, and so both Jews and Gentiles tried and condemned him, for he died for the sins of both. Let us go over the story in order.
Jhn 18:28-40
We have here an account of Christ's arraignment before Pilate, the Roman governor, in the praetorium (a Latin word made Greek), the praetor's house, or hall of judgment; thither they hurried him, to get him condemned in the Roman court, and executed by the Roman power. Being resolved on his death, they took this course,
