12 After G3326 this G5124 he went down G2597 to G1519 Capernaum, G2584 he, G846 and G2532 his G846 mother, G3384 and G2532 his G846 brethren, G80 and G2532 his G846 disciples: G3101 and G2532 they continued G3306 there G1563 not G3756 many G4183 days. G2250
His G846 brethren G80 therefore G3767 said G2036 unto G4314 him, G846 Depart G3327 hence, G1782 and G2532 go G5217 into G1519 Judaea, G2449 that G2443 thy G4675 disciples G3101 also G2532 may see G2334 the works G2041 that G3739 thou G4675 doest. G4160 For G1063 there is no man G3762 that doeth G4160 any thing G5100 in G1722 secret, G2927 and G2532 he himself G846 seeketh G2212 to be G1511 known openly. G1722 G3954 If G1487 thou do G4160 these things, G5023 shew G5319 thyself G4572 to the world. G2889 For G1063 neither G3761 did G4100 his G846 brethren G80 believe G4100 in G1519 him. G846
And G2532 when G3753 they were come in, G1525 they went up G305 into G1519 an upper room, G5253 where G3757 abode G2258 G2650 both G5037 Peter, G4074 and G2532 James, G2385 and G2532 John, G2491 and G2532 Andrew, G406 Philip, G5376 and G2532 Thomas, G2381 Bartholomew, G918 and G2532 Matthew, G3156 James G2385 the son of Alphaeus, G256 and G2532 Simon G4613 Zelotes, G2208 and G2532 Judas G2455 the brother of James. G2385 These G3778 all G3956 continued G2258 G4342 with one accord G3661 in prayer G4335 and G2532 supplication, G1162 with G4862 the women, G1135 and G2532 Mary G3137 the mother G3384 of Jesus, G2424 and G2532 with G4862 his G846 brethren. G80
Is G2076 not G3756 this G3778 the carpenter's G5045 son? G5207 is G3004 not G3780 his G846 mother G3384 called G3004 Mary? G3137 and G2532 his G846 brethren, G80 James, G2385 and G2532 Joses, G2500 and G2532 Simon, G4613 and G2532 Judas? G2455 And G2532 his G846 sisters, G79 are they G1526 not G3780 all G3956 with G4314 us? G2248 Whence G4159 then G3767 hath this man G5129 all G3956 these things? G5023

Commentary on John 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
In the close of the foregoing chapter we had an account of the first disciples whom Jesus called, Andrew and Peter, Philip and Nathanael. These were the first-fruits to God and to the Lamb, Rev. 14:4. Now, in this chapter, we have,
Jhn 2:1-11

There were some few so well disposed as to believe in Christ, and to follow him, when he did no miracle; yet it was not likely that many should be wrought upon till he had something wherewith to answer those that asked, What sign showest thou? He could have wrought miracles before, could have made them the common actions of his life and the common entertainments of his friends; but, miracles being designed for the sacred and solemn seals of his doctrine, he began not to work any till he began to preach his doctrine. Now observe,
Jhn 2:12-22
Here we have,
Now,
Jhn 2:23-25
We have here an account of the success, the poor success, of Christ's preaching and miracles at Jerusalem, while he kept the passover there. Observe,
Now this is all the success of Christ's preaching and miracles at Jerusalem, in this journey. The Lord comes to his temple, and none come to him but a parcel of weak simple people, that he can neither have credit from nor put confidence in; yet he shall at length see of the travail of his soul.
