24 But G1161 Jesus G2424 G846 did G4100 not G3756 commit G4100 himself G1438 unto them, G846 because G1223 he G846 knew G1097 all G3956 men,
And G2532 they prayed, G4336 and said, G2036 Thou, G4771 Lord, G2962 which knowest the hearts G2589 of all G3956 men, shew G322 whether G3739 G1520 of G1537 these G5130 two G1417 thou hast chosen, G1586
Now G3568 are we sure G1492 that G3754 thou knowest G1492 all things, G3956 and G2532 needest G5532 not G3756 G2192 that G2443 any man G5100 should ask G2065 thee: G4571 by G1722 this G5129 we believe G4100 that G3754 thou camest forth G1831 from G575 God. G2316
When Jesus G2424 therefore G3767 perceived G1097 that G3754 they would G3195 come G2064 and G2532 take G726 him G846 by force, G726 to G2443 make G4160 him G846 a king, G935 he departed G402 again G3825 into G1519 a mountain G3735 himself G846 alone. G3441
But the LORD H3068 said H559 unto Samuel, H8050 Look H5027 not on his countenance, H4758 or on the height H1364 of his stature; H6967 because I have refused H3988 him: for the LORD seeth not as man H120 seeth; H7200 for man H120 looketh H7200 on the outward appearance, H5869 but the LORD H3068 looketh H7200 on the heart. H3824
Neither G2532 G3756 is there G2076 any creature G2937 that is not manifest G852 in his G846 sight: G1799 but G1161 all things G3956 are naked G1131 and G2532 opened G5136 unto the eyes G3788 of him G846 with G4314 whom G3739 we have G2254 to do. G3056
And G2532 I will kill G615 her G846 children G5043 with G1722 death; G2288 and G2532 all G3956 the churches G1577 shall know G1097 that G3754 I G1473 am G1510 he which G3588 searcheth G2045 the reins G3510 and G2532 hearts: G2588 and G2532 I will give G1325 unto every one G1538 of you G5213 according to G2596 your G5216 works. G2041
And thou, Solomon H8010 my son, H1121 know H3045 thou the God H430 of thy father, H1 and serve H5647 him with a perfect H8003 heart H3820 and with a willing H2655 mind: H5315 for the LORD H3068 searcheth H1875 all hearts, H3824 and understandeth H995 all the imaginations H3336 of the thoughts: H4284 if thou seek H1875 him, he will be found H4672 of thee; but if thou forsake H5800 him, he will cast thee off H2186 for ever. H5703
He saith G3004 unto him G846 the third G5154 time, Simon, G4613 son of Jonas, G2495 lovest G5368 thou me? G3165 Peter G4074 was grieved G3076 because G3754 he said G2036 unto him G846 the third G5154 time, Lovest G5368 thou me? G3165 And G2532 he said G2036 unto him, G846 Lord, G2962 thou G4771 knowest G1492 all things; G3956 thou G4771 knowest G1097 that G3754 I love G5368 thee. G4571 Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Feed G1006 my G3450 sheep. G4263
And G2532 Nathanael G3482 said G2036 unto him, G846 Can G1410 there any G5100 good thing G18 come G1511 out of G1537 Nazareth? G3478 Philip G5376 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Come G2064 and G2532 see. G1492 Jesus G2424 saw G1492 Nathanael G3482 coming G2064 to G4314 him, G846 and G2532 saith G3004 of G4012 him, G846 Behold G2396 an Israelite G2475 indeed, G230 in G1722 whom G3739 is G2076 no G3756 guile! G1388
And G2532 he brought G71 him G846 to G4314 Jesus. G2424 And G1161 when Jesus G2424 beheld G1689 him, G846 he said, G2036 Thou G4771 art G1488 Simon G4613 the son G5207 of Jona: G2495 thou G4771 shalt be called G2564 Cephas, G2786 which G3739 is by interpretation, G2059 A stone. G4074
And G2532 immediately G2112 when Jesus G2424 perceived G1921 in his G846 spirit G4151 that G3754 they so G3779 reasoned G1260 within G1722 themselves, G1438 he said G2036 unto them, G846 Why G5101 reason ye G1260 these things G5023 in G1722 your G5216 hearts? G2588
Behold, G2400 I G1473 send G649 you G5209 forth G649 as G5613 sheep G4263 in G1722 the midst G3319 of wolves: G3074 be ye G1096 therefore G3767 wise G5429 as G5613 serpents, G3789 and G2532 harmless G185 as G5613 doves. G4058 But G1161 beware G4337 of G575 men: G444 for G1063 they will deliver G3860 you G5209 up G3860 to G1519 the councils, G4892 and G2532 they will scourge G3146 you G5209 in G1722 their G846 synagogues; G4864
The heart H3820 is deceitful H6121 above all things, and desperately wicked: H605 who can know H3045 it?
I know H3045 also, my God, H430 that thou triest H974 the heart, H3824 and hast pleasure H7521 in uprightness. H3476 As for me, in the uprightness H4339 of mine heart H3824 I have willingly offered H5068 all these things: and now have I seen H7200 with joy H8057 thy people, H5971 which are present H4672 here, to offer willingly H5068 unto thee.

Commentary on John 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
In the close of the foregoing chapter we had an account of the first disciples whom Jesus called, Andrew and Peter, Philip and Nathanael. These were the first-fruits to God and to the Lamb, Rev. 14:4. Now, in this chapter, we have,
Jhn 2:1-11
We have here the story of Christ's miraculous conversion of water into wine at a marriage in Cana of Galilee. There were some few so well disposed as to believe in Christ, and to follow him, when he did no miracle; yet it was not likely that many should be wrought upon till he had something wherewith to answer those that asked, What sign showest thou? He could have wrought miracles before, could have made them the common actions of his life and the common entertainments of his friends; but, miracles being designed for the sacred and solemn seals of his doctrine, he began not to work any till he began to preach his doctrine. Now observe,
Jhn 2:12-22
Here we have,
Now,
Jhn 2:23-25
We have here an account of the success, the poor success, of Christ's preaching and miracles at Jerusalem, while he kept the passover there. Observe,
Now this is all the success of Christ's preaching and miracles at Jerusalem, in this journey. The Lord comes to his temple, and none come to him but a parcel of weak simple people, that he can neither have credit from nor put confidence in; yet he shall at length see of the travail of his soul.
