25 And G1161 there are G2076 also G2532 many G4183 other things G243 which G3745 Jesus G2424 did, G4160 the which, G3748 if G1437 they should be written G1125 every G2596 one, G1520 I suppose G3633 that even G3761 the world G2889 itself G846 could not G3761 contain G5562 the books G975 that should be written. G1125 Amen. G281
Many, H7227 O LORD H3068 my God, H430 are thy wonderful H6381 works which thou hast done, H6213 and thy thoughts H4284 which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order H6186 unto thee: if I would declare H5046 and speak H1696 of them, they are more H6105 than can be numbered. H5608
My mouth H6310 shall shew forth H5608 thy righteousness H6666 and thy salvation H8668 all the day; H3117 for I know H3045 not the numbers H5615 thereof.
And G2532 many G4183 other G243 signs G4592 truly G3303 G3767 did G4160 Jesus G2424 in the presence G1799 of his G846 disciples, G3101 which G3739 are G2076 not G3756 written G1125 in G1722 this G5129 book: G975 But G1161 these G5023 are written, G1125 that G2443 ye might believe G4100 that G3754 Jesus G2424 is G2076 the Christ, G5547 the Son G5207 of God; G2316 and G2532 that G2443 believing G4100 ye might have G2192 life G2222 through G1722 his G846 name. How G5613 God G2316 anointed G5548 Jesus G2424 of G575 Nazareth G3478 with the Holy G40 Ghost G4151 and G2532 with power: G1411 who G846 G3739 went about G1330 doing good, G2109 and G2532 healing G2390 all G3956 that were oppressed G2616 of G5259 the devil; G1228 for G3754 God G2316 was G2258 with G3326 him. G846
And G2532 what G5101 shall I G3004 more G2089 say? G3004 for G1063 the time G5550 would fail G1952 me G3165 to tell G1334 of G4012 Gedeon, G1066 and G5037 of Barak, G913 and G2532 of Samson, G4546 and G2532 of Jephthae; G2422 of David G1138 also, G2532 and G5037 Samuel, G4545 and G2532 of the prophets: G4396
Then Amaziah H558 the priest H3548 of Bethel H1008 sent H7971 to Jeroboam H3379 king H4428 of Israel, H3478 saying, H559 Amos H5986 hath conspired H7194 against thee in the midst H7130 of the house H1004 of Israel: H3478 the land H776 is not able H3201 to bear H3557 all his words. H1697
The blind G5185 receive their sight, G308 and G2532 the lame G5560 walk, G4043 the lepers G3015 are cleansed, G2511 and G2532 the deaf G2974 hear, G191 the dead G3498 are raised up, G1453 and G2532 the poor G4434 have the gospel preached to them. G2097
I have shewed G5263 you G5213 all things, G3956 how that G3754 so G3779 labouring G2872 ye ought G1163 to support G482 the weak, G770 and G5037 to remember G3421 the words G3056 of the Lord G2962 Jesus, G2424 how G3754 he G846 said, G2036 It is G2076 more G3123 blessed G3107 to give G1325 than G2228 to receive. Commentary on John 21 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 21
The evangelist seemed to have concluded his history with the foregoing chapter; but (as St. Paul sometimes in his epistles), new matter occurring, he begins again. He had said that there were many other signs which Jesus did for the proof of his resurrection. And in this chapter he mentions one of these many, which was Christ's appearance to some of his disciples at the sea of Tiberias, in which we have an account,
It is strange that any should suppose that this chapter was added by some other hand, when it is expressly said (v. 24) that the disciple whom Jesus loved is he which testifieth of these things.
Jhn 21:1-14
We have here an account of Christ's appearance to his disciples at the sea of Tiberias. Now,
The evangelist leaves them at dinner, and makes this remark (v. 14): This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself alive to his disciples, or the greater part of them. This is the third day; so some. On the day he rose he appeared five times; the second day was that day seven-night; and this was the third. Or this was his third appearance to any considerable number of his disciples together; though he had appeared to Mary, to the women, to the two disciples, and to Cephas, yet he had but twice before this appeared to any company of them together. This is taken notice of,
Jhn 21:15-19
We have here Christ's discourse with Peter after dinner, so much of it as relates to himself, in which,
Jhn 21:20-25
In these verses, we have,
The evangelist, concluding with Amen, thereby sets to his seal, and let us set to ours, an Amen of faith, subscribing to the gospel, that it is true, all true; and an Amen of satisfaction in what is written, as able to make us wise to salvation. Amen; so be it.
