24 When G3753 the people G3793 therefore G3767 saw G1492 that G3754 Jesus G2424 was G2076 not G3756 there, G1563 neither G3761 his G846 disciples, G3101 they G846 also G2532 took G1684 G1519 shipping, G4143 and G2532 came G2064 to G1519 Capernaum, G2584 seeking for G2212 Jesus. G2424
And G2532 entered G1684 into G1519 a ship, G4143 and went G2064 over G4008 the sea G2281 toward G1519 Capernaum. G2584 And G2532 it was G1096 now G2235 dark, G4653 and G2532 Jesus G2424 was G2064 not G3756 come G2064 to G4314 them. G846
And G2532 when they had passed over, G1276 they came G2064 into G1909 the land G1093 of Gennesaret, G1082 and G2532 drew to the shore. G4358
These things G5023 said he G2036 in G1722 the synagogue, G4864 as he taught G1321 in G1722 Capernaum. G2584
Then G3767 the Jews G2453 sought G2212 him G846 at G1722 the feast, G1859 and G2532 said, G3004 Where G4226 is G2076 he? G1565
Jesus G2424 therefore, G3767 knowing G1492 all things G3956 that should come G2064 upon G1909 him, G846 went forth, G1831 and said G2036 unto them, G846 Whom G5101 seek ye? G2212 They answered G611 him, G846 Jesus G2424 of Nazareth. G3480 Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto them, G846 I G1473 am G1510 he. And G1161 Judas G2455 also, G2532 which G3588 betrayed G3860 him, G846 stood G2476 with G3326 them. G846
Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto her, G846 Woman, G1135 why G5101 weepest thou? G2799 whom G5101 seekest thou? G2212 She, G1565 supposing G1380 G3754 him to be G2076 the gardener, G2780 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Sir, G2962 if G1487 thou G4771 have borne G941 him G846 hence, G941 tell G2036 me G3427 where G4226 thou hast laid G5087 him, G846 and I G2504 will take G142 him G846 away. Commentary on John 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
In this chapter we have,
Jhn 6:1-14
We have here an account of Christ's feeding five thousand men with five loaves and two fishes, which miracle is in this respect remarkable, that it is the only passage of the actions of Christ's life that is recorded by all the four evangelists. John, who does not usually relate what had been recorded by those who wrote before him, yet relates this, because of the reference the following discourse has to it. Observe,
Jhn 6:15-21
Here is,
Jhn 6:22-27
In these verses we have,
Jhn 6:28-59
Whether this conference was with the Capernaites, in whose synagogue Christ now was, or with those who came from the other side of the sea, is not certain nor material; however, it is an instance of Christ's condescension that he gave them leave to ask him questions, and did not resent the interruption as an affront, no, not from his common hearers, though not his immediate followers. Those that would be apt to teach must be swift to hear, and study to answer. It is the wisdom of teachers, when they are asked even impertinent unprofitable questions, thence to take occasion to answer in that which is profitable, that the question may be rejected, but not the request. Now,
Jhn 6:60-71
We have here an account of the effects of Christ's discourse. Some were offended and others edified by it; some driven from him and others brought nearer to him.
