14 Jesus G2424 answered G611 and G2532 said G2036 unto them, G846 Though G2579 I G1473 bear record G3140 of G4012 myself, G1683 yet my G3450 record G3141 is G2076 true: G227 for G3754 I know G1492 whence G4159 I came, G2064 and G2532 whither G4226 I go; G5217 but G1161 ye G5210 cannot G3756 tell G1492 whence G4159 I come, G2064 and G2532 whither G4226 I go. G5217
Jesus G2424 knowing G1492 that G3754 the Father G3962 had given G1325 all things G3956 into G1519 his G846 hands, G5495 and G2532 that G3754 he was come G1831 from G575 God, G2316 and G2532 went G5217 to G4314 God; G2316
I came forth G1831 from G3844 the Father, G3962 and G2532 am come G2064 into G1519 the world: G2889 again, G3825 I leave G863 the world, G2889 and G2532 go G4198 to G4314 the Father. G3962
Jesus G2424 G3767 said G2036 unto them, G846 If G1487 God G2316 were G2258 your G5216 Father, G3962 ye would G302 love G25 me: G1691 for G1063 I G1473 proceeded forth G1831 and G2532 came G2240 from G1537 God; G2316 neither G3761 G1063 came I G2064 of G575 myself, G1683 but G235 he G1565 sent G649 me. G3165
Believest thou G4100 not G3756 that G3754 I G1473 am G2076 in G1722 the Father, G3962 and G2532 the Father G3962 in G1722 me? G1698 the words G4487 that G3739 I G1473 speak G2980 unto you G5213 I speak G2980 not G3756 of G575 myself: G1683 but G1161 the Father G3962 that dwelleth G3306 in G1722 me, G1698 he G846 doeth G4160 the works. G2041
(Now the man H376 Moses H4872 was very H3966 meek, H6035 H6035 above all the men H120 which were upon the face H6440 of the earth.) H127
Moreover from the time H3117 that I was appointed H6680 to be their governor H6346 in the land H776 of Judah, H3063 from the twentieth H6242 year H8141 even unto the two H8147 and thirtieth H7970 year H8141 of Artaxerxes H783 the king, H4428 that is, twelve H8147 H6240 years, H8141 I and my brethren H251 have not eaten H398 the bread H3899 of the governor. H6346 But the former H7223 governors H6346 that had been before H6440 me were chargeable H3513 unto the people, H5971 and had taken H3947 of them bread H3899 and wine, H3196 beside H310 forty H705 shekels H8255 of silver; H3701 yea, even H1571 their servants H5288 bare rule H7980 over the people: H5971 but so did H6213 not I, because H6440 of the fear H3374 of God. H430 Yea, also I continued H2388 in the work H4399 of this wall, H2346 neither bought H7069 we any land: H7704 and all my servants H5288 were gathered H6908 thither unto the work. H4399 Moreover there were at my table H7979 an hundred H3967 and fifty H2572 H376 of the Jews H3064 and rulers, H5461 beside those that came H935 unto us from among the heathen H1471 that are about us. H5439 Now that which was prepared H6213 for me daily H3117 was one H259 ox H7794 and six H8337 choice H1305 sheep; H6629 also fowls H6833 were prepared H6213 for me, and once in ten H6235 days H3117 store H7235 of all sorts of wine: H3196 yet for all H5973 this required H1245 not I the bread H3899 of the governor, H6346 because the bondage H5656 was heavy H3513 upon this people. H5971 Think H2142 upon me, my God, H430 for good, H2896 according to all that I have done H6213 for this people. H5971
Howbeit G235 we know G1492 this man G5126 whence G4159 he is: G2076 but G1161 when G3752 Christ G5547 cometh, G2064 no man G3762 knoweth G1097 whence G4159 he is. G2076 Then G3767 cried G2896 Jesus G2424 in G1722 the temple G2411 as he taught, G1321 G2532 saying, G3004 Ye both G2504 know me, G1492 and G2532 ye know G1492 whence G4159 I am: G1510 and G2532 I am G2064 not G3756 come G2064 of G575 myself, G1683 but G235 he that sent G3992 me G3165 is G2076 true, G228 whom G3739 ye G5210 know G1492 not. G3756 But G1161 I G1473 know G1492 him: G846 for G3754 I am G1510 from G3844 him, G846 and he G2548 hath sent G649 me. G3165
We G2249 know G1492 that G3754 God G2316 spake G2980 unto Moses: G3475 as for this G1161 G5126 fellow, we know G1492 not G3756 from whence G4159 he is. G2076 The man G444 answered G611 and G2532 said G2036 unto them, G846 Why G1063 herein G1722 G5129 is G2076 a marvellous thing, G2298 that G3754 ye G5210 know G1492 not G3756 from whence G4159 he is, G2076 and G2532 yet he hath opened G455 mine G3450 eyes. G3788
Say G3004 ye G5210 of him, whom G3739 the Father G3962 hath sanctified, G37 and G2532 sent G649 into G1519 the world, G2889 G3754 Thou blasphemest; G987 because G3754 I said, G2036 I am G1510 the Son G5207 of God? G2316
For G3754 I have given G1325 unto them G846 the words G4487 which G3739 thou gavest G1325 me; G3427 and G2532 they G846 have received G2983 them, and G2532 have known G1097 surely G230 that G3754 I came out G1831 from G3844 thee, G4675 and G2532 they have believed G4100 that G3754 thou G4771 didst send G649 me. G3165
I am become G1096 a fool G878 in glorying; G2744 ye G5210 have compelled G315 me: G3165 for G1063 I G1473 ought G3784 to have been commended G4921 of G5259 you: G5216 for G1063 in nothing G3762 am I behind G5302 the very chiefest G3029 apostles, G652 G5228 though G1499 I be G1510 nothing. G3762

Commentary on John 8 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 8
In this chapter we have,
Jhn 8:1-11
Though Christ was basely abused in the foregoing chapter, both by the rulers and by the people, yet here we have him still at Jerusalem, still in the temple. How often would he have gathered them! Observe,
Jhn 8:12-20
The rest of the chapter is taken up with debates between Christ and contradicting sinners, who cavilled at the most gracious words that proceeded out of his mouth. It is not certain whether these disputes were the same day that the adulteress was discharged; it is probable they were, for the evangelist mentions no other day, and takes notice (v. 2) how early Christ began that day's work. Though those Pharisees that accused the woman had absconded, yet there were other Pharisees (v. 13) to confront Christ, who had brass enough in their foreheads to keep them in countenance, though some of their party were put to such a shameful retreat; nay perhaps that made them the more industrious to pick quarrels with him, to retrieve, if possible, the reputation of their baffled party. In these verses we have,
This was the sum of the first conference between Christ and these carnal Jews, in the conclusion of which we are told how their tongues were let loose, and their hands tied.
Jhn 8:21-30
Christ here gives fair warning to the careless unbelieving Jews to consider what would be the consequence of their infidelity, that they might prevent it before it was too late; for he spoke words of terror as well as words of grace. Observe here,
Jhn 8:31-37
We have in these verses,
Jhn 8:38-47
Here Christ and the Jews are still at issue; he sets himself to convince and convert them, while they still set themselves to contradict and oppose him.
This is a high charge, and sounds very harsh and horrid, that any of the children of men, especially the church's children, should be called children of the devil, and therefore our Saviour fully proves it.
Jhn 8:48-50
Here is,
Jhn 8:51-59
In these verses we have,
