20 These G5023 words G4487 spake G2980 Jesus G2424 in G1722 the treasury, G1049 as he taught G1321 in G1722 the temple: G2411 and G2532 no man G3762 laid hands G4084 on him; G846 for G3754 his G846 hour G5610 was G2064 not yet G3768 come. G2064
Then G3767 they sought G2212 to take G4084 him: G846 but G2532 no man G3762 laid G1911 hands G5495 on G1909 him, G846 because G3754 his G846 hour G5610 was G2064 not yet G3768 come. G2064
And G1161 the chief priests G749 took G2983 the silver pieces, G694 and said, G2036 It is G1832 not G3756 lawful G1832 for to put G906 them G846 into G1519 the treasury, G2878 because G1893 it is G2076 the price G5092 of blood. G129
And G2532 he called G4341 unto him his G846 disciples, G3101 and saith G3004 unto them, G846 Verily G281 I say G3004 unto you, G5213 That G3754 this G3778 poor G4434 widow G5503 hath cast G906 more G4119 in, G906 than all G3956 they which have cast G906 into G1519 the treasury: G1049
The same G1722 G846 day G2250 there came G4334 certain G5100 of the Pharisees, G5330 saying G3004 unto him, G846 Get thee out, G1831 and G2532 depart G4198 hence: G1782 for G3754 Herod G2264 will G2309 kill G615 thee. G4571 And G2532 he said G2036 unto them, G846 Go ye, G4198 and tell G2036 that G5026 fox, G258 Behold, G2400 I cast out G1544 devils, G1140 and G2532 I do G2005 cures G2392 to day G4594 and G2532 to morrow, G839 and G2532 the third G5154 day I shall be perfected. G5048 Nevertheless G4133 I G3165 must G1163 walk G4198 to day, G4594 and G2532 to morrow, G839 and G2532 the day following: G2192 for G3754 it cannot be G3756 G1735 that a prophet G4396 perish G622 out of G1854 Jerusalem. G2419
And G2532 the chief priests G749 and G2532 the scribes G1122 the same G1722 G846 hour G5610 sought G2212 to lay G1911 hands G5495 on G1909 him; G846 and G2532 they feared G5399 the people: G2992 for G1063 they perceived G1097 that G3754 he had spoken G2036 this G5026 parable G3850 against G4314 them. G846
Then G3767 took they up G142 stones G3037 to G2443 cast G906 at G1909 him: G846 but G1161 Jesus G2424 hid himself, G2928 and G2532 went G1831 out of G1537 the temple, G2411 going G1330 through G1223 the midst G3319 of them, G846 and G2532 so G3779 passed by. G3855
Therefore G3767 they sought G2212 again G3825 to take G4084 him: G846 but G2532 he escaped G1831 out of G1537 their G846 hand, G5495
Jesus G2424 answered, G611 Are there G1526 not G3780 twelve G1427 hours G5610 in the day? G2250 If G1437 any man G5100 walk G4043 in G1722 the day, G2250 he stumbleth G4350 not, G3756 because G3754 he seeth G991 the light G5457 of this G5127 world. G2889 But G1161 if G1437 a man G5100 walk G4043 in G1722 the night, G3571 he stumbleth, G4350 because G3754 there is G2076 no G3756 light G5457 in G1722 him. G846

Commentary on John 8 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 8
In this chapter we have,
Jhn 8:1-11
Though Christ was basely abused in the foregoing chapter, both by the rulers and by the people, yet here we have him still at Jerusalem, still in the temple. How often would he have gathered them! Observe,
Jhn 8:12-20
The rest of the chapter is taken up with debates between Christ and contradicting sinners, who cavilled at the most gracious words that proceeded out of his mouth. It is not certain whether these disputes were the same day that the adulteress was discharged; it is probable they were, for the evangelist mentions no other day, and takes notice (v. 2) how early Christ began that day's work. Though those Pharisees that accused the woman had absconded, yet there were other Pharisees (v. 13) to confront Christ, who had brass enough in their foreheads to keep them in countenance, though some of their party were put to such a shameful retreat; nay perhaps that made them the more industrious to pick quarrels with him, to retrieve, if possible, the reputation of their baffled party. In these verses we have,
This was the sum of the first conference between Christ and these carnal Jews, in the conclusion of which we are told how their tongues were let loose, and their hands tied.
Jhn 8:21-30
Christ here gives fair warning to the careless unbelieving Jews to consider what would be the consequence of their infidelity, that they might prevent it before it was too late; for he spoke words of terror as well as words of grace. Observe here,
Jhn 8:31-37
We have in these verses,
Jhn 8:38-47
Here Christ and the Jews are still at issue; he sets himself to convince and convert them, while they still set themselves to contradict and oppose him.
This is a high charge, and sounds very harsh and horrid, that any of the children of men, especially the church's children, should be called children of the devil, and therefore our Saviour fully proves it.
Jhn 8:48-50
Here is,
Jhn 8:51-59
In these verses we have,
