19 And Gideon H1439 went in, H935 and made ready H6213 a kid, H5795 H1423 and unleavened cakes H4682 of an ephah H374 of flour: H7058 the flesh H1320 he put H7760 in a basket, H5536 and he put H7760 the broth H4839 in a pot, H6517 and brought it out H3318 unto him under the oak, H424 and presented H5066 it.
And Abraham H85 hastened H4116 into the tent H168 unto Sarah, H8283 and said, H559 Make ready quickly H4116 three H7969 measures H5429 of fine H5560 meal, H7058 knead H3888 it, and make H6213 cakes H5692 upon the hearth. H6213 And Abraham H85 ran H7323 unto the herd, H1241 and fetcht H3947 a calf H1121 H1241 tender H7390 and good, H2896 and gave H5414 it unto a young man; H5288 and he hasted H4116 to dress H6213 it. And he took H3947 butter, H2529 and milk, H2461 and the calf H1121 H1241 which he had dressed, H6213 and set H5414 it before them; H6440 and he stood H5975 by them under the tree, H6086 and they did eat. H398
And Manoah H4495 said H559 unto the angel H4397 of the LORD, H3068 I pray thee, let us detain H6113 thee, until we shall have made ready H6213 a kid H1423 H5795 for H6440 thee. And the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 said H559 unto Manoah, H4495 Though thou detain H6113 me, I will not eat H398 of thy bread: H3899 and if H518 thou wilt offer H6213 a burnt offering, H5930 thou must offer H5927 it unto the LORD. H3068 For Manoah H4495 knew H3045 not that he was an angel H4397 of the LORD. H3068 And Manoah H4495 said H559 unto the angel H4397 of the LORD, H3068 What is thy name, H8034 that when thy sayings H1697 come to pass H935 we may do thee honour? H3513 And the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 said H559 unto him, Why askest H7592 thou thus after my name, H8034 seeing it is secret? H6383 H6383 So Manoah H4495 took H3947 a kid H1423 H5795 with a meat offering, H4503 and offered H5927 it upon a rock H6697 unto the LORD: H3068 and the angel did H6213 wondrously; H6381 and Manoah H4495 and his wife H802 looked on. Commentary on Judges 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
Nothing that occurred in the quiet and peaceable times of Israel is recorded; the forty years' rest after the conquest of Jabin is passed over in silence; and here begins the story of another distress and another deliverance, by Gideon, the fourth of the judges. Here is,

It is not said what effect the prophet's sermon had upon the people, but we may hope it had a good effect, and that some of them at least repented and reformed upon it; for here, immediately after, we have the dawning of the day of their deliverance, by the effectual calling of Gideon to take upon him the command of their forces against the Midianites.
