22 And when Gideon H1439 perceived H7200 that he was an angel H4397 of the LORD, H3068 Gideon H1439 said, H559 Alas, H162 O Lord H136 GOD! H3069 for because H3651 I have seen H7200 an angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 face H6440 to face. H6440
And Jacob H3290 called H7121 the name H8034 of the place H4725 Peniel: H6439 for I have seen H7200 God H430 face H6440 to face, H6440 and my life H5315 is preserved. H5337
And she called H7121 the name H8034 of the LORD H3068 that spake H1696 unto her, Thou God H410 seest me: H7210 for she said, H559 Have I also here H1988 looked H7200 after him H310 that seeth me? H7210
(I stood H5975 between the LORD H3068 and you at that time, H6256 to shew H5046 you the word H1697 of the LORD: H3068 for ye were afraid H3372 by reason H6440 of the fire, H784 and went not up H5927 into the mount;) H2022 saying, H559
And ye said, H559 Behold, the LORD H3068 our God H430 hath shewed H7200 us his glory H3519 and his greatness, H1433 and we have heard H8085 his voice H6963 out of the midst H8432 of the fire: H784 we have seen H7200 this day H3117 that God H430 doth talk H1696 with man, H120 and he liveth. H2425
But the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 did no more H3254 appear H7200 to Manoah H4495 and to his wife. H802 Then Manoah H4495 knew H3045 that he was an angel H4397 of the LORD. H3068 And Manoah H4495 said H559 unto his wife, H802 We shall surely H4191 die, H4191 because we have seen H7200 God. H430 But his wife H802 said H559 unto him, If H3863 the LORD H3068 were pleased H2654 to kill H4191 us, he would not have received H3947 a burnt offering H5930 and a meat offering H4503 at our hands, H3027 neither would he have shewed H7200 us all these things, nor would as at this time H6256 have told H8085 us such things as these. H2063
Then said H559 I, Woe H188 is me! for I am undone; H1820 because I am a man H376 of unclean H2931 lips, H8193 and I dwell H3427 in the midst H8432 of a people H5971 of unclean H2931 lips: H8193 for mine eyes H5869 have seen H7200 the King, H4428 the LORD H3068 of hosts. H6635 Then flew H5774 one H259 of the seraphims H8314 unto me, having a live coal H7531 in his hand, H3027 which he had taken H3947 with the tongs H4457 from off the altar: H4196 And he laid H5060 it upon my mouth, H6310 and said, H559 Lo, this hath touched H5060 thy lips; H8193 and thine iniquity H5771 is taken away, H5493 and thy sin H2403 purged. H3722 Also I heard H8085 the voice H6963 of the Lord, H136 saying, H559 Whom shall I send, H7971 and who will go H3212 for us? Then said H559 I, Here am I; send H7971 me.

Commentary on Judges 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
Nothing that occurred in the quiet and peaceable times of Israel is recorded; the forty years' rest after the conquest of Jabin is passed over in silence; and here begins the story of another distress and another deliverance, by Gideon, the fourth of the judges. Here is,

It is not said what effect the prophet's sermon had upon the people, but we may hope it had a good effect, and that some of them at least repented and reformed upon it; for here, immediately after, we have the dawning of the day of their deliverance, by the effectual calling of Gideon to take upon him the command of their forces against the Midianites.
