1 How hath the Lord H136 covered H5743 the daughter H1323 of Zion H6726 with a cloud H5743 in his anger, H639 and cast down H7993 from heaven H8064 unto the earth H776 the beauty H8597 of Israel, H3478 and remembered H2142 not his footstool H1916 H7272 in the day H3117 of his anger! H639
Thou art the anointed H4473 cherub H3742 that covereth; H5526 and I have set H5414 thee so: thou wast upon the holy H6944 mountain H2022 of God; H430 thou hast walked up and down H1980 in the midst H8432 of the stones H68 of fire. H784 Thou wast perfect H8549 in thy ways H1870 from the day H3117 that thou wast created, H1254 till iniquity H5766 was found H4672 in thee. By the multitude H7230 of thy merchandise H7404 they have filled H4390 the midst H8432 of thee with violence, H2555 and thou hast sinned: H2398 therefore I will cast thee as profane H2490 out of the mountain H2022 of God: H430 and I will destroy H6 thee, O covering H5526 cherub, H3742 from the midst H8432 of the stones H68 of fire. H784
Thou hast covered H5526 with anger, H639 and persecuted H7291 us: thou hast slain, H2026 thou hast not pitied. H2550 Thou hast covered H5526 thyself with a cloud, H6051 that our prayer H8605 should not pass through. H5674
How art thou fallen H5307 from heaven, H8064 O Lucifer, H1966 son H1121 of the morning! H7837 H3213 how art thou cut down H1438 to the ground, H776 which didst weaken H2522 the nations! H1471 For thou hast said H559 in thine heart, H3824 I will ascend H5927 into heaven, H8064 I will exalt H7311 my throne H3678 above H4605 the stars H3556 of God: H410 I will sit H3427 also upon the mount H2022 of the congregation, H4150 in the sides H3411 of the north: H6828 I will ascend H5927 above the heights H1116 of the clouds; H5645 I will be like H1819 the most High. H5945 Yet thou shalt be brought down H3381 to hell, H7585 to the sides H3411 of the pit. H953
And G2532 there was G1096 war G4171 in G1722 heaven: G3772 Michael G3413 and G2532 his G846 angels G32 fought G4170 against G2596 the dragon; G1404 and G2532 the dragon G1404 fought G4170 and G2532 his G846 angels, G32 And G2532 prevailed G2480 not; G3756 neither G3777 was G2147 their G846 place G5117 found G2147 any more G2089 in G1722 heaven. G3772 And G2532 the great G3173 dragon G1404 was cast out, G906 that old G744 serpent, G3789 called G2564 the Devil, G1228 and G2532 Satan, G4567 which G3588 deceiveth G4105 the whole G3650 world: G3625 he was cast out G906 into G1519 the earth, G1093 and G2532 his G846 angels G32 were cast out G906 with G3326 him. G846
And when I shall put thee out, H3518 I will cover H3680 the heaven, H8064 and make H6937 the stars H3556 thereof dark; H6937 I will cover H3680 the sun H8121 with a cloud, H6051 and the moon H3394 shall not give H215 her light. H216 All the bright H3974 lights H216 of heaven H8064 will I make dark H6937 over thee, and set H5414 darkness H2822 upon thy land, H776 saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD. H3069
As for the beauty H6643 of his ornament, H5716 he set H7760 it in majesty: H1347 but they made H6213 the images H6754 of their abominations H8441 and of their detestable things H8251 therein: therefore have I set H5414 it far H5079 from them. And I will give H5414 it into the hands H3027 of the strangers H2114 for a prey, H957 and to the wicked H7563 of the earth H776 for a spoil; H7998 and they shall pollute H2490 it. My face H6440 will I turn H5437 also from them, and they shall pollute H2490 my secret H6845 place: for the robbers H6530 shall enter H935 into it, and defile H2490 it.

Commentary on Lamentations 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
The second alphabetical elegy is set to the same mournful tune with the former, and the substance of it is much the same; it begins with Ecah, as that did, "How sad is our case! Alas for us!'
The hand that wounded must make whole.
Lam 2:1-9
It is a very sad representation which is here made of the state of God's church, of Jacob and Israel, of Zion and Jerusalem; but the emphasis in these verses seems to be laid all along upon the hand of God in the calamities which they were groaning under. The grief is not so much that such and such things are done as that God has done them, that he appears angry with them; it is he that chastens them, and chastens them in wrath and in his hot displeasure; he has become their enemy, and fights against them; and this, this is the wormwood and the gall in the affliction and the misery.
Lam 2:10-22
Justly are these called Lamentations, and they are very pathetic ones, the expressions of grief in perfection, mourning and woe, and nothing else, like the contents of Ezekiel's roll, Eze. 2:10.
