14 They have wandered H5128 as blind H5787 men in the streets, H2351 they have polluted H1351 themselves with blood, H1818 so that men could H3201 not H3808 touch H5060 their garments. H3830
Also in thy skirts H3671 is found H4672 the blood H1818 of the souls H5315 of the poor H34 innocents: H5355 I have not found H4672 it by secret search, H4290 but upon all these.
And whosoever toucheth H5060 one that is slain H2491 with a sword H2719 in the open H6440 fields, H7704 or a dead body, H4191 or a bone H6106 of a man, H120 or a grave, H6913 shall be unclean H2930 seven H7651 days. H3117
The LORD H3068 shall smite H5221 thee with madness, H7697 and blindness, H5788 and astonishment H8541 of heart: H3824 And thou shalt grope H4959 at noonday, H6672 as the blind H5787 gropeth H4959 in darkness, H653 and thou shalt not prosper H6743 in thy ways: H1870 and thou shalt be only oppressed H6231 and spoiled H1497 evermore, H3117 and no man shall save H3467 thee.
And when ye spread forth H6566 your hands, H3709 I will hide H5956 mine eyes H5869 from you: yea, when ye make many H7235 prayers, H8605 I will not hear: H8085 your hands H3027 are full H4390 of blood. H1818
For the LORD H3068 hath poured out H5258 upon you the spirit H7307 of deep sleep, H8639 and hath closed H6105 your eyes: H5869 the prophets H5030 and your rulers, H7218 the seers H2374 hath he covered. H3680 And the vision H2380 of all is become unto you as the words H1697 of a book H5612 that is sealed, H2856 which men deliver H5414 to one that is learned, H3045 saying, H559 Read H7121 this, I pray thee: and he saith, H559 I cannot; H3201 for it is sealed: H2856 And the book H5612 is delivered H5414 to him that is not learned, H3045 H5612 saying, H559 Read H7121 this, I pray thee: and he saith, H559 I am not learned. H3045
Therefore is judgment H4941 far H7368 from us, neither doth justice H6666 overtake H5381 us: we wait H6960 for light, H216 but behold obscurity; H2822 for brightness, H5054 but we walk H1980 in darkness. H653 We grope H1659 for the wall H7023 like the blind, H5787 and we grope H1659 as if we had no eyes: H5869 we stumble H3782 at noonday H6672 as in the night; H5399 we are in desolate H820 places as dead H4191 men. We roar H1993 all like bears, H1677 and mourn H1897 sore H1897 like doves: H3123 we look H6960 for judgment, H4941 but there is none; for salvation, H3444 but it is far off H7368 from us.
Therefore night H3915 shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; H2377 and it shall be dark H2821 H2821 unto you, that ye shall not divine; H7080 and the sun H8121 shall go down H935 over the prophets, H5030 and the day H3117 shall be dark H6937 over them. Then shall the seers H2374 be ashamed, H954 and the diviners H7080 confounded: H2659 yea, they shall all cover H5844 their lips; H8222 for there is no answer H4617 of God. H430

Commentary on Lamentations 4 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 4
This chapter is another single alphabet of Lamentations for the destruction of Jerusalem, like those in the first two chapters.
Lam 4:1-12
The elegy in this chapter begins with a lamentation of the very sad and doleful change which the judgments of God had made in Jerusalem. The city that was formerly as gold, as the most fine gold, so rich and splendid, the perfection of beauty and the joy of the whole earth, has become dim, and is changed, has lost its lustre, lost its value, is not what it was; it has become dross. Alas! what an alteration is here!
Lam 4:13-20
We have here,
Lam 4:21-22
David's psalms of lamentation commonly conclude with some word of comfort, which is as life from the dead and light shining out of darkness; so does this lamentation here in this chapter. The people of God are now in great distress, their aspects all doleful, their prospects all frightful, and their ill-natured neighbours the Edomites insult over them and do all they can to exasperate their destroyers against them. Such was their violence against their brother Jacob (Obad. 10), such their spleen at Jerusalem, of which they cried, Rase it, rase it, Ps. 137:7. Now it is here foretold, for the encouragement of God's people,
