28 And G1161 when these things G5130 begin G756 to come to pass, G1096 then look up, G352 and G2532 lift up G1869 your G5216 heads; G2776 for G1360 your G5216 redemption G629 draweth nigh. G1448
And G1161 not G3756 only G3440 they, but G235 ourselves G846 also, G2532 which have G2192 the firstfruits G536 of the Spirit, G4151 even G2532 we G2249 ourselves G846 groan G4727 within G1722 ourselves, G1438 waiting G553 for the adoption, G5206 to wit, the redemption G629 of our G2257 body. G4983
And G2532 grieve G3076 not G3361 the holy G40 Spirit G4151 of God, G2316 whereby G1722 G3739 ye are sealed G4972 unto G1519 the day G2250 of redemption. G629
And in that day H3117 thou shalt say, H559 O LORD, H3068 I will praise H3034 thee: though thou wast angry H599 with me, thine anger H639 is turned away, H7725 and thou comfortedst H5162 me. Behold, God H410 is my salvation; H3444 I will trust, H982 and not be afraid: H6342 for the LORD H3050 JEHOVAH H3068 is my strength H5797 and my song; H2176 he also is become my salvation. H3444 Therefore with joy H8342 shall ye draw H7579 water H4325 out of the wells H4599 of salvation. H3444
He will swallow up H1104 death H4194 in victory; H5331 and the Lord H136 GOD H3069 will wipe away H4229 tears H1832 from off all faces; H6440 and the rebuke H2781 of his people H5971 shall he take away H5493 from off all the earth: H776 for the LORD H3068 hath spoken H1696 it. And it shall be said H559 in that day, H3117 Lo, this is our God; H430 we have waited H6960 for him, and he will save H3467 us: this is the LORD; H3068 we have waited H6960 for him, we will be glad H1523 and rejoice H8055 in his salvation. H3444
Arise, H6965 shine; H215 for thy light H216 is come, H935 and the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 is risen H2224 upon thee. For, behold, the darkness H2822 shall cover H3680 the earth, H776 and gross darkness H6205 the people: H3816 but the LORD H3068 shall arise H2224 upon thee, and his glory H3519 shall be seen H7200 upon thee.
For G1063 the earnest expectation G603 of the creature G2937 waiteth G553 for the manifestation G602 of the sons G5207 of God. G2316
Which G3739 is G2076 the earnest G728 of our G2257 inheritance G2817 until G1519 the redemption G629 of the purchased possession, G4047 unto G1519 the praise G1868 of his G846 glory. G1391
Sing H2167 unto the LORD H3068 with the harp; H3658 with the harp, H3658 and the voice H6963 of a psalm. H2172 With trumpets H2689 and sound H6963 of cornet H7782 make a joyful noise H7321 before H6440 the LORD, H3068 the King. H4428 Let the sea H3220 roar, H7481 and the fulness H4393 thereof; the world, H8398 and they that dwell H3427 therein. Let the floods H5104 clap H4222 their hands: H3709 let the hills H2022 be joyful H7442 together H3162 Before H6440 the LORD; H3068 for he cometh H935 to judge H8199 the earth: H776 with righteousness H6664 shall he judge H8199 the world, H8398 and the people H5971 with equity. Commentary on Luke 21 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 21
In this chapter we have,
Luk 21:1-4
This short passage of story we had before in Mark. It is thus recorded twice, to teach us,
Luk 21:5-19
See here,
Luk 21:20-28
Having given them an idea of the times for about thirty-eight years next ensuing, he here comes to show them what all those things would issue in at last, namely, the destruction of Jerusalem, and the utter dispersion of the Jewish nation, which would be a little day of judgment, a type and figure of Christ's second coming, which was not so fully spoken of here as in the parallel place (Mt. 24), yet glanced at; for the destruction of Jerusalem would be as it were the destruction of the world to those whose hearts were bound up in it.
Luk 21:29-38
