11 And G1161 Herod G2264 with G4862 his G846 men of war G4753 set G1848 him G846 at nought, G1848 and G2532 mocked G1702 him, and arrayed G4016 him G846 in a gorgeous G2986 robe, G2066 and sent G375 him G846 again G375 to Pilate. G4091
And G1161 he answered G611 and told G2036 them, G846 Elias G2243 verily G3303 cometh G2064 first, G4412 and restoreth G600 all things; G3956 and G2532 how G4459 it is written G1125 of G1909 the Son G5207 of man, G444 that G2443 he must suffer G3958 many things, G4183 and G2532 be set at nought. G1847
Thou hast known H3045 my reproach, H2781 and my shame, H1322 and my dishonour: H3639 mine adversaries H6887 are all before thee. Reproach H2781 hath broken H7665 my heart; H3820 and I am full of heaviness: H5136 and I looked H6960 for some to take pity, H5110 but there was none; and for comforters, H5162 but I found H4672 none.
Thus saith H559 the LORD, H3068 the Redeemer H1350 of Israel, H3478 and his Holy One, H6918 to him whom man H5315 despiseth, H960 to him whom the nation H1471 abhorreth, H8581 to a servant H5650 of rulers, H4910 Kings H4428 shall see H7200 and arise, H6965 princes H8269 also shall worship, H7812 because of the LORD H3068 that is faithful, H539 and the Holy One H6918 of Israel, H3478 and he shall choose H977 thee.
He is despised H959 and rejected H2310 of men; H376 a man H376 of sorrows, H4341 and acquainted H3045 with grief: H2483 and we hid as it were H4564 our faces H6440 from him; he was despised, H959 and we esteemed H2803 him not.
Then G5119 the soldiers G4757 of the governor G2232 took G3880 Jesus G2424 into G1519 the common hall, G4232 and gathered G4863 unto G1909 him G846 the whole G3650 band G4686 of soldiers. And G2532 they stripped G1562 him, G846 and put on G4060 him G846 a scarlet G2847 robe. G5511 And G2532 when they had platted G4120 a crown G4735 of G1537 thorns, G173 they put G2007 it upon G1909 his G846 head, G2776 and G2532 a reed G2563 in G1909 his G846 right hand: G1188 and G2532 they bowed the knee G1120 before G1715 him, G846 and mocked G1702 him, G846 saying, G3004 Hail, G5463 King G935 of the Jews! G2453 And G2532 they spit G1716 upon G1519 him, G846 and took G2983 the reed, G2563 and G2532 smote G5180 him G846 on G1519 the head. G2776
And G1161 the soldiers G4757 led G520 him G846 away G520 into G2080 the hall, G833 called G3603 Praetorium; G4232 and G2532 they call together G4779 the whole G3650 band. G4686 And G2532 they clothed G1746 him G846 with purple, G4209 and G2532 platted G4120 a crown G4735 of thorns, G174 and put it about G4060 his G846 head, And G2532 began G756 to salute G782 him, G846 Hail, G5463 King G935 of the Jews! G2453 And G2532 they smote G5180 him G846 on the head G2776 with a reed, G2563 and G2532 did spit G1716 upon him, G846 and G2532 bowing G5087 their knees G1119 worshipped G4352 him. G846 And G2532 when G3753 they had mocked G1702 him, G846 they took off G1562 the purple G4209 from him, G846 and G2532 put G1746 his own G2398 clothes G2440 on G1746 him, G846 and G2532 led G1806 him G846 out G1806 to G2443 crucify G4717 him. G846
And G2532 when they had blindfolded G4028 him, G846 they struck G5180 him G846 on the face, G4383 and G2532 asked G1905 him, G846 saying, G3004 Prophesy, G4395 who G5101 is it G2076 that smote G3817 thee? G4571 And G2532 many G4183 other things G2087 blasphemously G987 spake they G3004 against G1519 him. G846
Then G3767 came G1831 Jesus G2424 forth, G1854 wearing G5409 the crown G4735 of thorns, G174 and G2532 the purple G4210 robe. G2440 And G2532 Pilate saith G3004 unto them, G846 Behold G2396 the man! G444
For G1063 of G1909 a truth G225 against G1909 thy G4675 holy G40 child G3816 Jesus, G2424 whom G3739 thou hast anointed, G5548 both G5037 Herod, G2264 and G2532 Pontius G4194 Pilate, G4091 with G4862 the Gentiles, G1484 and G2532 the people G2992 of Israel, G2474 were gathered together, G4863 For to do G4160 whatsoever G3745 thy G4675 hand G5495 and G2532 thy G4675 counsel G1012 determined before G4309 to be done. Commentary on Luke 23 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 23
This chapter carries on and concludes the history of Christ's sufferings and death. We have here,
Luk 23:1-12
Our Lord Jesus was condemned as a blasphemer in the spiritual court, but it was the most impotent malice that could be that this court was actuated by; for, when they had condemned him, they knew they could not put him to death, and therefore took another course.
Luk 23:13-25
We have here the blessed Jesus run down by the mob, and hurried to the cross in the storm of a popular noise and tumult, raised by the malice and artifice of the chief priests, as agents for the prince of the power of the air.
Luk 23:26-31
We have here the blessed Jesus, the Lamb of God, led as a lamb to the slaughter, to the sacrifice. It is strange with what expedition they went through his trial; how they could do so much work in such a little time, though they had so many great men to deal with, attendance on whom is usually a work of time. He was brought before the chief priests at break of day (ch. 22:66), after that to Pilate, then to Herod, then to Pilate again; and there seems to have been a long struggle between Pilate and the people about him. He was scourged, and crowned with thorns and contumeliously used, and all this was done in four or five hours' time, or six at most, for he was crucified between nine o'clock and twelve. Christ's persecutors resolve to lose no time, for fear lest his friends at the other end of the town should get notice of what they were doing, and should rise to rescue him. Never any one was so chased out of the world as Christ was, but so he himself said, Yet a little while and ye shall not see me; a very little while indeed. Now as they led him away to death we find,

In these verses we have,
Luk 23:44-49
In these verses we have three things:-
Luk 23:50-56
We have here an account of Christ's burial; for he must be brought not only to death, but to the dust of death (Ps. 22:15), according to the sentence (Gen. 3:19), To the dust thou shalt return. Observe,
