1 Now G1161 upon the first G3391 day of the week, G4521 very early in the morning, G3722 G901 they came G2064 unto G1909 the sepulchre, G3418 bringing G5342 the spices G759 which G3739 they had prepared, G2090 and G2532 certain G5100 others with G4862 them. G846
G1161 The first G3391 day of the week G4521 cometh G2064 Mary G3137 Magdalene G3094 early, G4404 when it was G5607 yet G2089 dark, G4653 unto G1519 the sepulchre, G3419 and G2532 seeth G991 the stone G3037 taken away G142 from G1537 the sepulchre. G3419 Then G3767 she runneth, G5143 and G2532 cometh G2064 to G4314 Simon G4613 Peter, G4074 and G2532 to G4314 the other G243 disciple, G3101 whom G3739 Jesus G2424 loved, G5368 and G2532 saith G3004 unto them, G846 They have taken away G142 the Lord G2962 out of G1537 the sepulchre, G3419 and G2532 we know G1492 not G3756 where G4226 they have laid G5087 him. G846
And G1161 many G4183 women G1135 were G2258 there G1563 beholding G2334 afar off, G575 G3113 which G3748 followed G190 Jesus G2424 from G575 Galilee, G1056 ministering G1247 unto him: G846 Among G1722 which G3739 was G2258 Mary G3137 Magdalene, G3094 and G2532 Mary G3137 the mother G3384 of James G2385 and G2532 Joses, G2500 and G2532 the mother G3384 of Zebedee's G2199 children. G5207
In the end G1161 G3796 of the sabbath, G4521 as it began to dawn G2020 toward G1519 the first G3391 day of the week, G4521 came G2064 Mary G3137 Magdalene G3094 and G2532 the other G243 Mary G3137 to see G2334 the sepulchre. G5028 And, G2532 behold, G2400 there was G1096 a great G3173 earthquake: G4578 for G1063 the angel G32 of the Lord G2962 descended G2597 from G1537 heaven, G3772 and came G4334 and rolled back G617 the stone G3037 from G575 the door, G2374 and G2532 sat G2521 upon G1883 it. G846 G1161 His G846 countenance G2397 was G2258 like G5613 lightning, G796 and G2532 his G846 raiment G1742 white G3022 as G5616 snow: G5510 And G1161 for G575 fear G5401 of him G846 the keepers G5083 did shake, G4579 and G2532 became G1096 as G5616 dead G3498 men. And G1161 the angel G32 answered G611 and said G2036 unto the women, G1135 Fear G5399 not G3361 ye: G5210 for G1063 I know G1492 that G3754 ye seek G2212 Jesus, G2424 which G3588 was crucified. G4717 He is G2076 not G3756 here: G5602 for G1063 he is risen, G1453 as G2531 he said. G2036 Come, G1205 see G1492 the place G5117 where G3699 the Lord G2962 lay. G2749 And G2532 go G4198 quickly, G5035 and tell G2036 his G846 disciples G3101 that G3754 he is risen G1453 from G575 the dead; G3498 and, G2532 behold, G2400 he goeth before G4254 you G5209 into G1519 Galilee; G1056 there G1563 shall ye see G3700 him: G846 lo, G2400 I have told G2036 you. G5213 And G2532 they departed G1831 quickly G5035 from G575 the sepulchre G3419 with G3326 fear G5401 and G2532 great G3173 joy; G5479 and did run G5143 to bring G518 his G846 disciples G3101 word. G518
And G2532 when G1230 the sabbath G4521 was past, G1230 Mary G3137 Magdalene, G3094 and G2532 Mary G3137 the mother G3588 of James, G2385 and G2532 Salome, G4539 had bought G59 sweet spices, G759 that G2443 they might come G2064 and anoint G218 him. G846 And G2532 very G3029 early in the morning G4404 the first G3391 day of the week, G4521 they came G2064 unto G1909 the sepulchre G3419 at the rising G393 of the sun. G2246 And G2532 they said G3004 among G4314 themselves, G1438 Who G5101 shall roll G617 us G2254 away G617 the stone G3037 from G1537 the door G2374 of the sepulchre? G3419 And G2532 when they looked, G308 they saw G2334 that G3754 the stone G3037 was rolled away: G617 for G1063 it was G2258 very G4970 great. G3173 And G2532 entering G1525 into G1519 the sepulchre, G3419 they saw G1492 a young man G3495 sitting G2521 on G1722 the right side, G1188 clothed G4016 in a long white G3022 garment; G4749 and G2532 they were affrighted. G1568 And G1161 he saith G3004 unto them, G846 Be G1568 not G3361 affrighted: G1568 Ye seek G2212 Jesus G2424 of Nazareth, G3479 which G3588 was crucified: G4717 he is risen; G1453 he is G2076 not G3756 here: G5602 behold G2396 the place G5117 where G3699 they laid G5087 him. G846 But G235 go your way, G5217 tell G2036 his G846 disciples G3101 and G2532 Peter G4074 that G3754 he goeth before G4254 you G5209 into G1519 Galilee: G1056 there G1563 shall ye see G3700 him, G846 as G2531 he said G2036 unto you. G5213 And G2532 they went out G1831 quickly, G5035 and fled G5343 from G575 the sepulchre; G3419 for G1161 they G846 trembled G2192 G5156 and G2532 were amazed: G1611 neither G2532 said they G2036 any thing G3762 to any G3762 man; for G1063 they were afraid. G5399
And G2532 certain G5100 women, G1135 which G3739 had been G2258 healed G2323 of G575 evil G4190 spirits G4151 and G2532 infirmities, G769 Mary G3137 called G2564 Magdalene, G3094 out of G575 whom G3739 went G1831 seven G2033 devils, G1140 And G2532 Joanna G2489 the wife G1135 of Chuza G5529 Herod's G2264 steward, G2012 and G2532 Susanna, G4677 and G2532 many G4183 others, G2087 which G3748 ministered G1247 unto him G846 of G575 their G846 substance. G5224
And G1161 the women G1135 also, G2532 which G3748 came G2258 G4905 with him G846 from G1537 Galilee, G1056 followed after, G2628 and beheld G2300 the sepulchre, G3419 and G2532 how G5613 his G846 body G4983 was laid. G5087 And they returned, G5290 and G1161 prepared G2090 spices G759 and G2532 ointments; G3464 and G2532 rested G2270 G3303 the sabbath day G4521 according G2596 to the commandment. G1785

Commentary on Luke 24 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 24
Our Lord Jesus went gloriously down to death, in spite of the malice of his enemies, who did all they could to make his death ignominious; but he rose again more gloriously, of which we have an account in this chapter; and the proofs and evidences of Christ's resurrection are more fully related by this evangelist than they were by Matthew and Mark. Here is,
Luk 24:1-12
The manner of the re-uniting of Christ's soul and body in his resurrection is a mystery, one of the secret things that belong not to us; but the infallible proofs of his resurrection, that he did indeed rise from the dead, and was thereby proved to be the Son of God, are things revealed, which belong to us and to our children. Some of them we have here in these verses, which relate the same story for substance that we had in Matthew and Mark.
Luk 24:13-35
This appearance of Christ to the two disciples going to Emmaus was mentioned, and but just mentioned, before (Mk. 16:12); here it is largely related. It happened the same day that Christ rose, the first day of the new world that rose with him. One of these two disciples was Cleopas or Alpheus, said by the ancients to be the brother of Joseph, Christ's supposed father; who the other was is not certain. Some think it was Peter; it should seem indeed that Christ did appear particularly to Peter that day, which the eleven spoke of among themselves (v. 34), and Paul mentions, 1 Co. 15:5. But it could not be Peter that was one of the two, for he was one of the eleven to whom the two returned; and, besides, we know Peter so well as to think that if he had been one of the two he would have been the chief speaker, and not Cleopas. It was one of those that were associated with the eleven, mentioned v. 9. Now in this passage of story we may observe,
Luk 24:36-49
Five times Christ was seen the same day that he rose: by Mary Magdalene alone in the garden (Jn. 20:14), by the women as they were going to tell the disciples (Mt. 28:9), by Peter alone, by the two disciples going to Emmaus, and now at night by the eleven, of which we have an account in these verses, as also Jn. 20:19. Observe,
Luk 24:50-53
This evangelist omits the solemn meeting between Christ and his disciples in Galilee; but what he said to them there, and at other interviews, he subjoins to what he said to them at the first visit he made them on the evening of the day he rose; and has now nothing more to account for but his ascension into heaven, of which we have a very brief narrative in these verses, in which we are told,
The amen that concludes seems to be added by the church and every believer to the reading of the gospel, signifying an assent to the truths of the gospel, and a hearty concurrence with all the disciples of Christ in praising and blessing God. Amen. Let him be continually praised and blessed.
