6 And G2532 when they had G4160 this G5124 done, G4160 they inclosed G4788 a great G4183 multitude G4128 of fishes: G2486 and G1161 their G846 net G1350 brake. G1284
Then he said, H559 Go, H3212 borrow H7592 thee vessels H3627 abroad H2351 of all thy neighbours, H7934 even empty H7386 vessels; H3627 borrow not a few. H4591 And when thou art come in, H935 thou shalt shut H5462 the door H1817 upon thee and upon thy sons, H1121 and shalt pour out H3332 into all those vessels, H3627 and thou shalt set aside H5265 that which is full. H4392 So she went H3212 from him, and shut H5462 the door H1817 upon her and upon H1157 her sons, H1121 who H1992 brought H5066 the vessels to her; and she poured out. H3332 And it came to pass, when the vessels H3627 were full, H4390 that she said H559 unto her son, H1121 Bring H5066 me yet a vessel. H3627 And he said H559 unto her, There is not a vessel H3627 more. And the oil H8081 stayed. H5975 Then she came H935 and told H5046 the man H376 of God. H430 And he said, H559 Go, H3212 sell H4376 the oil, H8081 and pay H7999 thy debt, H5386 and live H2421 thou and thy children H1121 of the rest. H3498
And G1161 he said G2036 unto them, G846 Cast G906 the net G1350 on G1519 the right G1188 side G3313 of the ship, G4143 and G2532 ye shall find. G2147 They cast G906 therefore, G3767 and G2532 now G3765 they were G2480 not G3765 able G2480 to draw G1670 it G846 for G575 the multitude G4128 of fishes. G2486 Therefore G3767 that G1565 disciple G3101 whom G3739 Jesus G2424 loved G25 saith G3004 unto Peter, G4074 It is G2076 the Lord. G2962 Now G3767 when Simon G4613 Peter G4074 heard G191 that G3754 it was G2076 the Lord, G2962 he girt G1241 his fisher's coat G1903 unto him, (for G1063 he was G2258 naked,) G1131 and G2532 did cast G906 himself G1438 into G1519 the sea. G2281 And G1161 the other G243 disciples G3101 came G2064 in a little ship; G4142 (for G1063 they were G2258 not G3756 far G3112 from G575 land, G1093 but G235 as it were G5613 G575 two hundred G1250 cubits,) G4083 dragging G4951 the net G1350 with fishes. G2486 As soon G5613 then G3767 as they were come G576 to G1519 land, G1093 they saw G991 a fire of coals G439 there, and G2532 fish G3795 laid G2749 thereon, G1945 and G2532 bread. G740 Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto them, G846 Bring G5342 of G575 the fish G3795 which G3739 ye have G4084 now G3568 caught. G4084 Simon G4613 Peter G4074 went up, G305 and G2532 drew G1670 the net G1350 to G1909 land G1093 full G3324 of great G3173 fishes, G2486 an hundred G1540 and fifty G4004 and three: G5140 and G2532 for all there were so many, G5118 yet was G5607 not G3756 the net G1350 broken. Commentary on Luke 5 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 5
In this chapter, we have,
Luk 5:1-11
This passage of story fell, in order of time, before the two miracles we had in the close of the foregoing chapter, and is the same with that which was more briefly related by Matthew and Mark, of Christ's calling Peter and Andrew to be fishers of men, Mt. 4:18, and Mk. 1:16. They had not related this miraculous draught of fishes at that time, having only in view the calling of his disciples; but Luke gives us that story as one of the many signs which Jesus did in the presence of his disciples, which had not been written in the foregoing books, Jn. 20:30, 31. Observe here,
Now by this vast draught of fishes,
Luk 5:12-16
Here is,
Luk 5:17-26
Here is,
Luk 5:27-39
All this, except the last verse, we had before in Matthew and Mark; it is not the story of any miracle in nature wrought by our Lord Jesus, but it is an account of some of the wonders of his grace, which, to those who understand things aright, are no less cogent proofs of Christ's being sent of God than the other.
