41 And G1161 Jesus G2424 answering G611 said, G2036 O G5599 faithless G571 and G2532 perverse G1294 generation, G1074 how G2193 long G4219 shall I be G2071 with G4314 you, G5209 and G2532 suffer G430 you? G5216 Bring G4317 thy G4675 son G5207 hither. G5602
Then G1534 saith he G3004 to Thomas, G2381 Reach G5342 hither G5602 thy G4675 finger, G1147 and G2532 behold G1492 my G3450 hands; G5495 and G2532 reach hither G5342 thy G4675 hand, G5495 and G2532 thrust G906 it into G1519 my G3450 side: G4125 and G2532 be G1096 not G3361 faithless, G571 but G235 believing. G4103
Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Have I been G1510 so long G5118 time G5550 with G3326 you, G5216 and yet G2532 hast thou G1097 not G3756 known G1097 me, G3165 Philip? G5376 he that hath seen G3708 me G1691 hath seen G3708 the Father; G3962 and G2532 how G4459 sayest G3004 thou G4771 then, Shew G1166 us G2254 the Father? G3962
He answereth G611 him, G846 and G1161 saith, G3004 O G5599 faithless G571 generation, G1074 how long G2193 G4219 shall I be G2071 with G4314 you? G5209 how long G2193 G4219 shall I suffer G430 you? G5216 bring G5342 him G846 unto G4314 me. G3165
For G2532 G1063 unto us was G2070 the gospel preached, G2097 as well as G2509 unto them: G2548 but G235 the word G3056 preached G189 did G5623 not G3756 profit G5623 them, G1565 not G3361 being mixed G4786 with faith G4102 in them that heard G191 it.
So G2532 we see G991 that G3754 they could G1410 not G3756 enter in G1525 because G1223 of unbelief. G570
When G3757 your G5216 fathers G3962 tempted G3985 me, G3165 proved G1381 me, G3165 and G2532 saw G1492 my G3450 works G2041 forty G5062 years. G2094 Wherefore G1352 I was grieved G4360 with that G1565 generation, G1074 and G2532 said, G2036 They do G4105 alway G104 err G4105 in their heart; G2588 and G1161 they G846 have G1097 not G3756 known G1097 my G3450 ways. G3598 So G5613 I sware G3660 in G1722 my G3450 wrath, G3709 They shall G1525 not G1487 enter G1525 into G1519 my G3450 rest.) G2663
Or G2228 despisest thou G2706 the riches G4149 of his G846 goodness G5544 and G2532 forbearance G463 and G2532 longsuffering; G3115 not knowing G50 that G3754 the goodness G5543 of God G2316 leadeth G71 thee G4571 to G1519 repentance? G3341
And G1161 he said G2036 unto them, G846 Where G4226 is G2076 your G5216 faith? G4102 And G1161 they being afraid G5399 wondered, G2296 saying G3004 one to another, G4314 G240 What manner of man G5101 G686 is G2076 this! G3778 for G3754 he commandeth G2004 even G2532 the winds G417 and G2532 water, G5204 and G2532 they obey G5219 him. G846
And G2532 Jesus G2424 stood still, G2476 and commanded G2036 him G846 to be called. G5455 And G2532 they call G5455 the blind man, G5185 saying G3004 unto him, G846 Be of good comfort, G2293 rise; G1453 he calleth G5455 thee. G4571
But G1161 when Jesus G2424 saw G1492 it, he was much displeased, G23 and G2532 said G2036 unto them, G846 Suffer G863 the little children G3813 to come G2064 unto G4314 me, G3165 and G2532 forbid G2967 them G846 not: G3361 for G1063 of such G5108 is G2076 the kingdom G932 of God. G2316
And Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 came in H935 unto Pharaoh, H6547 and said H559 unto him, Thus saith H559 the LORD H3068 God H430 of the Hebrews, H5680 How long H4970 wilt thou refuse H3985 to humble H6031 thyself before H6440 me? let my people H5971 go, H7971 that they may serve H5647 me.
Verily G281 I say G3004 unto you, G5213 All G3956 these things G5023 shall come G2240 upon G1909 this G5026 generation. G1074
A wicked G4190 and G2532 adulterous G3428 generation G1074 seeketh after G1934 a sign; G4592 and G2532 there shall no G3756 sign G4592 be given G1325 unto it, G846 but G1508 the sign G4592 of the prophet G4396 Jonas. G2495 And G2532 he left G2641 them, G846 and departed. G565
Then G5119 goeth he, G4198 and G2532 taketh G3880 with G3326 himself G1438 seven G2033 other G2087 spirits G4151 more wicked G4191 than himself, G1438 and G2532 they enter in G1525 and dwell G2730 there: G1563 and G2532 the last G2078 state of that G1565 man G444 is G1096 worse than G5501 the first. G4413 Even so G3779 shall it be G2071 also G2532 unto this G5026 wicked G4190 generation. G1074
Come G1205 unto G4314 me, G3165 all G3956 ye that labour G2872 and G2532 are heavy laden, G5412 and I G2504 will give G373 you G5209 rest. G373
But G1161 when he saw G1492 many G4183 of the Pharisees G5330 and G2532 Sadducees G4523 come G2064 to G1909 his G846 baptism, G908 he said G2036 unto them, G846 O generation G1081 of vipers, G2191 who G5101 hath warned G5263 you G5213 to flee G5343 from G575 the wrath G3709 to come? G3195
And might not be as their fathers, H1 a stubborn H5637 and rebellious H4784 generation; H1755 a generation H1755 that set H3559 not their heart H3820 aright, H3559 and whose spirit H7307 was not stedfast H539 with God. H410
And it was so, when Elisha H477 the man H376 of God H430 had heard H8085 that the king H4428 of Israel H3478 had rent H7167 his clothes, H899 that he sent H7971 to the king, H4428 saying, H559 Wherefore hast thou rent H7167 thy clothes? H899 let him come H935 now to me, and he shall know H3045 that there is H3426 a prophet H5030 in Israel. H3478

Commentary on Luke 9 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 9
In this chapter we have,
Luk 9:1-9
We have here,
Luk 9:10-17
We have here,
Luk 9:18-27
In these verses, we have Christ discoursing with his disciples about the great things that pertained to the kingdom of God; and one circumstance of this discourse is taken notice of here which we had not in the other evangelists-that Christ was alone praying, and his disciples with him, when he entered into this discourse, v. 18. Observe,
Luk 9:28-36
We have here the narrative of Christ's transfiguration, which was designed for a specimen of that glory of his in which he will come to judge the world, of which he had lately been speaking, and, consequently, an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him, and never to be ashamed of him. We had this account before in Matthew and Mark, and it is well worthy to be repeated to us, and reconsidered by us, for the confirmation of our faith in the Lord Jesus, as the brightness of his Father's glory and the light of the world, for the filling of our minds with high and honourable thoughts of him, notwithstanding his being clothed with a body, and giving us some idea of the glory which he entered into at his ascension, and in which he now appears within the veil, and for the raising and encouraging of our hopes and expectations concerning the glory reserved for all believers in the future state.
Luk 9:37-42
This passage of story in Matthew and Mark follows immediately upon that of Christ's transfiguration, and his discourse with his disciples after it; but here it is said to be on the next day, as they were coming down from the hill, which confirms the conjecture that Christ was transfigured in the night, and, it should seem, though they did not make tabernacles as Peter proposed, yet they found some shelter to repose themselves in all night, for it was not till next day that they came down from the hill, and then he found things in some disorder among his disciples, though not so bad as Moses did when he came down from the mount. When wise and good men are in their beloved retirements, they would do well to consider whether they are not wanted in their public stations.
In this narrative here, observe,
Luk 9:43-50
We may observe here,
Luk 9:51-56
This passage of story we have not in any other of the evangelists, and it seems to come in here for the sake of its affinity with that next before, for in this also Christ rebuked his disciples, because they envied for his sake. There, under colour of zeal for Christ, they were for silencing and restraining separatists: here, under the same colour, they were for putting infidels to death; and, as for that, so for this also, Christ reprimanded them, for a spirit of bigotry and persecution is directly contrary to the spirit of Christ and Christianity. Observe here,
Luk 9:57-62
We have here an account of three several persons that offered themselves to follow Christ, and the answers that Christ gave to each of them. The two former we had an account of in Mt. 19:21.
We may look upon this,
Observe,
