32 And G2532 he spake G2980 that saying G3056 openly. G3954 And G2532 Peter G4074 took G4355 him, G846 and began G756 to rebuke G2008 him. G846
These things G5023 have I spoken G2980 unto you G5213 in G1722 proverbs: G3942 but G235 the time G5610 cometh, G2064 when G3753 I shall G2980 no more G3765 speak G2980 unto you G5213 in G1722 proverbs, G3942 but G235 I shall shew G312 you G5213 plainly G3954 of G4012 the Father. G3962
And G2532 he G846 was G2258 in G1909 the hinder part of the ship, G4403 asleep G2518 on G1909 a pillow: G4344 and G2532 they awake G1326 him, G846 and G2532 say G3004 unto him, G846 Master, G1320 carest G3199 thou G4671 not G3756 that G3754 we perish? G622
But G1161 Martha G3136 was cumbered G4049 about G4012 much G4183 serving, G1248 and G1161 came to him, G2186 and said, G2036 Lord, G2962 dost G3199 thou G4671 not G3756 care G3199 that G3754 my G3450 sister G79 hath left G2641 me G3165 to serve G1247 alone? G3441 bid G2036 her G846 therefore G3767 that G2443 she help G4878 me. G3427
Then G3767 cometh he G2064 to G4314 Simon G4613 Peter: G4074 and G2532 Peter G1565 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Lord, G2962 dost G3538 thou G4771 wash G3538 my G3450 feet? G4228 Jesus G2424 answered G611 and G2532 said G2036 unto him, G846 What G3739 I G1473 do G4160 thou G4771 knowest G1492 not G3756 now; G737 but G1161 thou shalt know G1097 hereafter. G3326 G5023 Peter G4074 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Thou shalt G3538 never G1519 G165 G3364 wash G3538 my G3450 feet. G4228 Jesus G2424 answered G611 him, G846 If G3362 I wash G3538 thee G4571 not, G3362 thou hast G2192 no G3756 part G3313 with G3326 me. G1700
Jesus G2424 answered G611 him, G846 I G1473 spake G2980 openly G3954 to the world; G2889 I G1473 ever G3842 taught G1321 in G1722 the synagogue, G4864 and G2532 in G1722 the temple, G2411 whither G3699 the Jews G2453 always G3842 resort; G4905 and G2532 in G1722 secret G2927 have I said G2980 nothing. Commentary on Mark 8 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 8
In this chapter, we have,
Mar 8:1-9
We had the story of a miracle very like this before, in this gospel (ch. 6:35), and of this same miracle (Mt. 15:32), and here is little or no addition or alternation as to the circumstances. Yet observe,
Mar 8:10-21
Still Christ is upon motion; now he visits the parts of Dalmanutha, that no corner of the land of Israel might say that they had not had his presence with them. He came thither by ship (v. 10); but, meeting with occasions of dispute there, and not with opportunities of doing good, he entered into the ship again (v. 13), and came back. In these verses, we are told,
Mar 8:22-26
This cure is related only by this evangelist, and there is something singular in the circumstances.
Mar 8:27-38
We have read a great deal of the doctrine Christ preached, and the miracles he wrought, which were many, and strange, and well-attested, of various kinds, and wrought in several places, to the astonishment of the multitudes that were eye-witnesses of them. It is now time for us to pause a little, and to consider what these things mean; the wondrous works which Christ then forbade the publishing of, being recorded in these sacred writings, are thereby published to all the world, to us, to all ages; now what shall we think of them? Is the record of those things designed only for an amusement, or to furnish us with matter for discourse? No, certainly these things are written, that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God (Jn. 20:31); and this discourse which Christ had with his disciples, will assist us in making the necessary reflections upon the miracles of Christ, and a right use of them. Three things we are here taught to infer from the miracles Christ wrought.
