15 Some G5100 indeed G3303 preach G2784 Christ G5547 even G2532 of G1223 envy G5355 and G2532 strife; G2054 and G1161 some G5100 also G2532 of G1223 good will: G2107
Let nothing G3367 be done through G2596 strife G2052 or G2228 vainglory; G2754 but G235 in lowliness of mind G5012 let G2233 each G240 esteem G2233 other G240 better than G5242 themselves. G1438
Now G1161 I beseech G3870 you, G5209 brethren, G80 mark G4648 them which cause G4160 divisions G1370 and G2532 offences G4625 contrary G3844 to the doctrine G1322 which G3739 ye G5210 have learned; G3129 and G2532 avoid G1578 them. G575 G846 For G1063 they that are such G5108 serve G1398 not G3756 our G2257 Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 but G235 their own G1438 belly; G2836 and G2532 by G1223 good words G5542 and G2532 fair speeches G2129 deceive G1818 the hearts G2588 of the simple. G172
The one G3303 preach G2605 Christ G5547 of G1537 contention, G2052 not G3756 sincerely, G55 supposing G3633 to add G2018 affliction G2347 to my G3450 bonds: G1199 But G1161 the other of G1537 love, G26 knowing G1492 that G3754 I am set G2749 for G1519 the defence G627 of the gospel. G2098 What G5101 then? G1063 notwithstanding, G4133 every G3956 way, G5158 whether G1535 in pretence, G4392 or G1535 in truth, G225 Christ G5547 is preached; G2605 and G2532 I G5463 therein G1722 G5129 do rejoice, G5463 yea, G235 and G2532 will rejoice. G5463
For G1063 such G5108 are false apostles, G5570 deceitful G1386 workers, G2040 transforming themselves G3345 into G1519 the apostles G652 of Christ. G5547
For G1063 the Son G5207 of God, G2316 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 who G3588 was preached G2784 among G1722 you G5213 by G1223 us, G2257 even by G1223 me G1700 and G2532 Silvanus G4610 and G2532 Timotheus, G5095 was G1096 not G3756 yea G3483 and G2532 nay, G3756 but G235 in G1722 him G846 was G1096 yea. G3483
For G1063 ye are G2075 yet G2089 carnal: G4559 for G1063 whereas G3699 there is among G1722 you G5213 envying, G2205 and G2532 strife, G2054 and G2532 divisions, G1370 are ye G2075 not G3780 carnal, G4559 and G2532 walk G4043 as G2596 men? G444 For G1063 while G3752 one G5100 saith, G3004 I G1473 G3303 am G1510 of Paul; G3972 and G1161 another, G2087 I G1473 am of Apollos; G625 are G2075 ye not G3780 carnal? G4559
For G1063 I fear, G5399 lest, G3381 G4458 when I come, G2064 I shall G2147 not G3756 find G2147 you G5209 such as G3634 I would, G2309 and that I G2504 shall be found G2147 unto you G5213 such as G3634 ye would G2309 not: G3756 lest G3381 G4458 there be debates, G2054 envyings, G2205 wraths, G2372 strifes, G2052 backbitings, G2636 whisperings, G5587 swellings, G5450 tumults: G181
Feed G4165 the flock G4168 of God G2316 which is among G1722 you, G5213 taking the oversight G1983 thereof, not G3361 by constraint, G317 but G235 willingly; G1596 not G3366 for filthy lucre, G147 but G235 of a ready mind; G4290 Neither G3366 as G5613 being lords over G2634 God's heritage, G2819 but G235 being G1096 ensamples G5179 to the flock. G4168 And G2532 when the chief Shepherd G750 shall appear, G5319 ye shall receive G2865 a crown G4735 of glory G1391 that fadeth not away. G262
G2228 Do ye think G1380 that G3754 the scripture G1124 saith G3004 in vain, G2761 The spirit G4151 that G3739 dwelleth G2730 in G1722 us G2254 lusteth G1971 to G4314 envy? G5355 But G1161 he giveth G1325 more G3187 grace. G5485 Wherefore G1352 he saith, G3004 God G2316 resisteth G498 the proud, G5244 but G1161 giveth G1325 grace G5485 unto the humble. G5011
And G2532 without controversy G3672 great G3173 is G2076 the mystery G3466 of godliness: G2150 God G2316 was manifest G5319 in G1722 the flesh, G4561 justified G1344 in G1722 the Spirit, G4151 seen G3700 of angels, G32 preached G2784 unto G1722 the Gentiles, G1484 believed on G4100 in G1722 the world, G2889 received up G353 into G1722 glory. G1391
For G1063 we preach G2784 not G3756 ourselves, G1438 but G235 Christ G5547 Jesus G2424 the Lord; G2962 and G1161 ourselves G1438 your G5216 servants G1401 for G1223 Jesus' G2424 sake. G1223
And G1161 some G5100 of G1537 them G846 were G2258 men G435 of Cyprus G2953 and G2532 Cyrene, G2956 which, G3748 when they were come G1525 to G1519 Antioch, G490 spake G2980 unto G4314 the Grecians, G1675 preaching G2097 the Lord G2962 Jesus. G2424
Then G1161 Philip G5376 opened G455 his G846 mouth, G4750 and G2532 began G756 at G575 the same G5026 scripture, G1124 and preached G2097 unto him G846 Jesus. G2424

Commentary on Philippians 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 1
He begins with the inscription and benediction (v. 1, 2). He gives thanks for the saints at Philippi (v. 3-6). He speaks of his great affection and concern for their spiritual welfare (v. 7, 8), his prayers for them (v. 9-11), his care to prevent their offence at his sufferings (v. 12-20), his readiness to glorify Christ by life or death (v. 21-26), and then concludes with a double exhortation to strictness and constancy (v. 27-30).
Phl 1:1-2
We have here the inscription and benediction. Observe,
Phl 1:3-6
The apostle proceeds after the inscription and benediction to thanksgiving for the saints at Philippi. He tells them what it was he thanked God for, upon their account. Observe here,
Phl 1:7-8
The apostle expresses the ardent affection he had for them, and his concern for their spiritual welfare: I have you in my heart, v. 7. He loved them as his own soul, and they lay near his heart. He thought much of them, and was in care about them. Observe,
Phl 1:9-11
These verses contain the prayers he put up for them. Paul often let his friends know what it was he begged of God for them, that they might know what to beg for themselves and be directed in their own prayers, and that they might be encouraged to hope they should receive from God the quickening, strengthening, everlasting, comforting grace, which so powerful an intercessor as Paul asked of God for them. It is an encouragement to us to know that we are prayed for by our friends, who, we have reason to think, have an interest at the throne of grace. It was intended likewise for their direction in their walk, and that they might labour to answer his prayers for them; for by this it would appear that God had answered them. Paul, in praying thus for them, expected good concerning them. It is an inducement to us to do our duty, that we may not disappoint the expectations of praying friends and ministers. He prayed,
Phl 1:12-20
We see here the care the apostle takes to prevent their being offended at his sufferings. He was now a prisoner at Rome; this might be a stumbling-block to those who had received the gospel by his ministry. They might be tempted to think, If this doctrine were indeed of God, God would not suffer one who was so active and instrumental in preaching and propagating it to be thrown by as a despised broken vessel. They might be shy of owning this doctrine, lest they should be involved in the same trouble themselves. Now to take off the offence of the cross, he expounds this dark and hard chapter of his sufferings, and makes it very easy and intelligible, and reconcilable to the wisdom and goodness of God who employed him.
Phl 1:21-26
We have here an account of the life and death of blessed Paul: his life was Christ, and his death was gain. Observe,
Phl 1:27-30
The apostle concludes the chapter with two exhortations:-
