2 The LORD H3068 will preserve H8104 him, and keep him alive; H2421 and he shall be blessed H833 upon the earth: H776 and thou wilt not deliver H5414 him unto the will H5315 of his enemies. H341
The wicked H7563 watcheth H6822 the righteous, H6662 and seeketh H1245 to slay H4191 him. The LORD H3068 will not leave H5800 him in his hand, H3027 nor condemn H7561 him when he is judged. H8199
Surely he shall deliver H5337 thee from the snare H6341 of the fowler, H3353 and from the noisome H1942 pestilence. H1698 He shall cover H5526 thee with his feathers, H84 and under his wings H3671 shalt thou trust: H2620 his truth H571 shall be thy shield H6793 and buckler. H5507 Thou shalt not be afraid H3372 for the terror H6343 by night; H3915 nor for the arrow H2671 that flieth H5774 by day; H3119 Nor for the pestilence H1698 that walketh H1980 in darkness; H652 nor for the destruction H6986 that wasteth H7736 at noonday. H6672 A thousand H505 shall fall H5307 at thy side, H6654 and ten thousand H7233 at thy right hand; H3225 but it shall not come nigh H5066 thee.
[[A Song H7892 of degrees.]] H4609 Blessed H835 is every one that feareth H3373 the LORD; H3068 that walketh H1980 in his ways. H1870 For thou shalt eat H398 the labour H3018 of thine hands: H3709 happy H835 shalt thou be, and it shall be well H2896 with thee. Thy wife H802 shall be as a fruitful H6509 vine H1612 by the sides H3411 of thine house: H1004 thy children H1121 like olive H2132 plants H8363 round about H5439 thy table. H7979 Behold, that thus shall the man H1397 be blessed H1288 that feareth H3373 the LORD. H3068 The LORD H3068 shall bless H1288 thee out of Zion: H6726 and thou shalt see H7200 the good H2898 of Jerusalem H3389 all the days H3117 of thy life. H2416 Yea, thou shalt see H7200 thy children's H1121 children, H1121 and peace H7965 upon Israel. H3478
Grant H5414 not, O LORD, H3068 the desires H3970 of the wicked: H7563 further H6329 not his wicked device; H2162 lest they exalt H7311 themselves. Selah. H5542 As for the head H7218 of those that compass me about, H4524 let the mischief H5999 of their own lips H8193 cover H3680 them.
Thus shalt thou say H559 unto him, The LORD H3068 saith H559 thus; Behold, that which I have built H1129 will I break down, H2040 and that which I have planted H5193 I will pluck up, H5428 even this whole land. H776 And seekest H1245 thou great things H1419 for thyself? seek H1245 them not: for, behold, I will bring H935 evil H7451 upon all flesh, H1320 saith H5002 the LORD: H3068 but thy life H5315 will I give H5414 unto thee for a prey H7998 in all places H4725 whither thou goest. Commentary on Psalms 41 Matthew Henry Commentary
Psalm 41
God's kindness and truth have often been the support and comfort of the saints when they have had most experience of man's unkindness and treachery. David here found them so, upon a sick-bed; he found his enemies very barbarous, but his God very gracious.
Is any afflicted with sickness? let him sing the beginning of this psalm. Is any persecuted by enemies? let him sing the latter end of it; and we may any of us, in singing it, meditate upon both the calamities and comforts of good people in this world.
To the chief musician. A psalm of David.
Psa 41:1-4
In these verses we have,
Psa 41:5-13
David often complains of the insolent conduct of his enemies towards him when he was sick, which, as it was very barbarous in them, so it could not but be very grievous to him. They had not indeed arrived at that modern pitch of wickedness of poisoning his meat and drink, or giving him something to make him sick; but, when he was sick, they insulted over him (v. 5): My enemies speak evil of me, designing thereby to grieve his spirit, to ruin his reputation, and so to sink his interest. Let us enquire,
