11 Cast me not away H7993 from thy presence; H6440 and take H3947 not thy holy H6944 spirit H7307 from me.
And G2532 grieve G3076 not G3361 the holy G40 Spirit G4151 of God, G2316 whereby G1722 G3739 ye are sealed G4972 unto G1519 the day G2250 of redemption. G629
And the LORD H3068 was gracious H2603 unto them, and had compassion H7355 on them, and had respect H6437 unto them, because of H4616 his covenant H1285 with Abraham, H85 Isaac, H3327 and Jacob, H3290 and would H14 not destroy H7843 them, neither cast H7993 he them from his presence H6440 as yet. H5704
But G1161 ye G5210 are G2075 not G3756 in G1722 the flesh, G4561 but G235 in G1722 the Spirit, G4151 if so be G1512 that the Spirit G4151 of God G2316 dwell G3611 in G1722 you. G5213 Now G1161 if any man G1536 have G2192 not G3756 the Spirit G4151 of Christ, G5547 he G3778 is G2076 none G3756 of his. G846
But they rebelled, H4784 and vexed H6087 his holy H6944 Spirit: H7307 therefore he was turned H2015 to be their enemy, H341 and he fought H3898 against them. Then he remembered H2142 the days H3117 of old, H5769 Moses, H4872 and his people, H5971 saying, Where is he that brought them up H5927 out of the sea H3220 with the shepherd H7462 of his flock? H6629 where is he that put H7760 his holy H6944 Spirit H7307 within H7130 him?
And declared G3724 to be the Son G5207 of God G2316 with G1722 power, G1411 according G2596 to the spirit G4151 of holiness, G42 by G1537 the resurrection G386 from the dead: G3498
But G1161 the Comforter, G3875 which is the Holy G40 Ghost, G4151 whom G3739 the Father G3962 will send G3992 in G1722 my G3450 name, G3686 he G1565 shall teach G1321 you G5209 all things, G3956 and G2532 bring G5279 all things G3956 to G5279 your G5209 remembrance, G5279 whatsoever G3739 I have said G2036 unto you. G5213
And I will cast you out H7993 of my sight, H6440 as I have cast out H7993 all your brethren, H251 even the whole seed H2233 of Ephraim. H669
Behold, thou hast driven me out H1644 this day H3117 from the face H6440 of the earth; H127 and from H5921 thy face H6440 shall I be hid; H5641 and I shall be a fugitive H5128 and a vagabond H5110 in the earth; H776 and it shall come to pass, H1961 that every one that findeth me H4672 shall slay me. H2026
And the LORD H3068 said, H559 I will remove H5493 Judah H3063 also out of my sight, H6440 as I have removed H5493 Israel, H3478 and will cast off H3988 this city H5892 Jerusalem H3389 which I have chosen, H977 and the house H1004 of which I said, H559 My name H8034 shall be there.
Therefore the LORD H3068 was very H3966 angry H599 with Israel, H3478 and removed H5493 them out of his sight: H6440 there was none left H7604 but the tribe H7626 of Judah H3063 only. Also Judah H3063 kept H8104 not the commandments H4687 of the LORD H3068 their God, H430 but walked H3212 in the statutes H2708 of Israel H3478 which they made. H6213 And the LORD H3068 rejected H3988 all the seed H2233 of Israel, H3478 and afflicted H6031 them, and delivered H5414 them into the hand H3027 of spoilers, H8154 until he had cast H7993 them out of his sight. H6440 For he rent H7167 Israel H3478 from the house H1004 of David; H1732 and they made Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028 king: H4427 and Jeroboam H3379 drave H5080 H5077 Israel H3478 from following H310 the LORD, H3068 and made them sin H2398 a great H1419 sin. H2401 For the children H1121 of Israel H3478 walked H3212 in all the sins H2403 of Jeroboam H3379 which he did; H6213 they departed H5493 not from them; Until the LORD H3068 removed H5493 Israel H3478 out of his sight, H6440 as he had said H1696 by H3027 all his servants H5650 the prophets. H5030 So was Israel H3478 carried away H1540 out of their own land H127 to Assyria H804 unto this day. H3117
But the Spirit H7307 of the LORD H3068 departed H5493 from Saul, H7586 and an evil H7451 spirit H7307 from the LORD H3068 troubled H1204 him.
And she said, H559 The Philistines H6430 be upon thee, Samson. H8123 And he awoke H3364 out of his sleep, H8142 and said, H559 I will go out H3318 as at other times before, H6471 and shake H5287 myself. And he wist H3045 not that the LORD H3068 was departed H5493 from him.
And when he came H935 unto Lehi, H3896 the Philistines H6430 shouted H7321 against H7125 him: and the Spirit H7307 of the LORD H3068 came mightily H6743 upon him, and the cords H5688 that were upon his arms H2220 became as flax H6593 that was burnt H1197 with fire, H784 and his bands H612 loosed H4549 from off his hands. Commentary on Psalms 51 Matthew Henry Commentary
Psalm 51
Though David penned this psalm upon a very particular occasion, yet, it is of as general use as any of David's psalms; it is the most eminent of the penitential psalms, and most expressive of the cares and desires of a repenting sinner. It is a pity indeed that in our devout addresses to God we should have any thing else to do than to praise God, for that is the work of heaven; but we make other work for ourselves by our own sins and follies: we must come to the throne of grace in the posture of penitents, to confess our sins and sue for the grace of God; and, if therein we would take with us words, we can nowhere find any more apposite than in this psalm, which is the record of David's repentance for his sin in the matter of Uriah, which was the greatest blemish upon his character: all the rest of his faults were nothing to this; it is said of him (1 Ki. 15:5), That "he turned not aside from the commandment of the Lord all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.' In this psalm,
Those whose consciences charge them with any gross sin should, with a believing regard to Jesus Christ, the Mediator, again and again pray over this psalm; nay, though we have not been guilty of adultery and murder, or any the like enormous crime, yet in singing it, and praying over it, we may very sensibly apply it all to ourselves, which if we do with suitable affections we shall, through Christ, find mercy to pardon and grace for seasonable help.
To the chief musician. A psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba.
Psa 51:1-6
The title has reference to a very sad story, that of David's fall. But, though he fell, he was not utterly cast down, for God graciously upheld him and raised him up.
