23 And G2532 changed G236 the glory G1391 of the uncorruptible G862 God G2316 into G1722 an image G1504 made like G3667 to corruptible G5349 man, G444 and G2532 to birds, G4071 and G2532 fourfooted beasts, G5074 and G2532 creeping things. G2062
Thus they changed H4171 their glory H3519 into the similitude H8403 of an ox H7794 that eateth H398 grass. H6212
Hath a nation H1471 changed H3235 their gods, H430 which are yet no gods? H430 but my people H5971 have changed H4171 their glory H3519 for that which doth not profit. H3276
Take ye therefore good H3966 heed H8104 unto yourselves; H5315 for ye saw H7200 no manner of similitude H8544 on the day H3117 that the LORD H3068 spake H1696 unto you in Horeb H2722 out of the midst H8432 of the fire: H784 Lest ye corrupt H7843 yourselves, and make H6213 you a graven image, H6459 the similitude H8544 of any figure, H5566 the likeness H8403 of male H2145 or female, H5347 The likeness H8403 of any beast H929 that is on the earth, H776 the likeness H8403 of any winged H3671 fowl H6833 that flieth H5774 in the air, H8064 The likeness H8403 of any thing that creepeth H7430 on the ground, H127 the likeness H8403 of any fish H1710 that is in the waters H4325 beneath H8478 the earth: H776
Thou shalt not make H6213 thee any graven image, H6459 or any likeness H8544 of any thing that is in heaven H8064 above, H4605 or that is in the earth H776 beneath, or that is in the waters H4325 beneath the earth: H776
They have mouths, H6310 but they speak H1696 not: eyes H5869 have they, but they see H7200 not: They have ears, H241 but they hear H8085 not: noses H639 have they, but they smell H7306 not: They have hands, H3027 but they handle H4184 not: feet H7272 have they, but they walk H1980 not: neither speak H1897 they through their throat. H1627 They that make H6213 them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth H982 in them.
The idols H6091 of the heathen H1471 are silver H3701 and gold, H2091 the work H4639 of men's H120 hands. H3027 They have mouths, H6310 but they speak H1696 not; eyes H5869 have they, but they see H7200 not; They have ears, H241 but they hear H238 not; neither is there H3426 any breath H7307 in their mouths. H6310 They that make H6213 them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth H982 in them.
To whom then will ye liken H1819 God? H410 or what likeness H1823 will ye compare H6186 unto him?
Lift up H5375 your eyes H5869 on high, H4791 and behold H7200 who hath created H1254 these things, that bringeth out H3318 their host H6635 by number: H4557 he calleth H7121 them all by names H8034 by the greatness H7230 of his might, H202 for that he is strong H533 in power; H3581 not one H376 faileth. H5737
The carpenter H2796 H6086 stretcheth out H5186 his rule; H6957 he marketh it out H8388 with a line; H8279 he fitteth H6213 it with planes, H4741 and he marketh it out H8388 with the compass, H4230 and maketh H6213 it after the figure H8403 of a man, H376 according to the beauty H8597 of a man; H120 that it may remain H3427 in the house. H1004
Ye know G1492 that G3754 ye were G2258 Gentiles, G1484 carried away G520 unto G4314 these dumb G880 idols, G1497 even as G5613 G302 ye were led. G71
For G1063 the time G5550 past G3928 of our life G979 may suffice G713 us G2254 to have wrought G2716 the will G2307 of the Gentiles, G1484 when we walked G4198 in G1722 lasciviousness, G766 lusts, G1939 excess of wine, G3632 revellings, G2970 banquetings, G4224 and G2532 abominable G111 idolatries: G1495
And G2532 the rest G3062 of the men G444 which G3739 were G615 not G3756 killed G615 by G1722 these G5025 plagues G4127 yet G3777 repented G3340 not G3777 of G1537 the works G2041 of their G846 hands, G5495 that G3363 they should G4352 not G3363 worship G4352 devils, G1140 and G2532 idols G1497 of gold, G5552 and G2532 silver, G693 and G2532 brass, G5470 and G2532 stone, G3035 and G2532 of wood: G3585 which G3739 neither G3777 can G1410 see, G991 nor G3777 hear, G191 nor G3777 walk: G4043

Commentary on Romans 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 1
In this chapter we may observe,
Rom 1:1-7
In this paragraph we have,
Rom 1:8-15
We may here observe,
Rom 1:16-18
Paul here enters upon a large discourse of justification, in the latter part of this chapter laying down his thesis, and, in order to the proof of it, describing the deplorable condition of the Gentile world. His transition is very handsome, and like an orator: he was ready to preach the gospel at Rome, though a place where the gospel was run down by those that called themselves the wits; for, saith he, I am not ashamed of it, v. 16. There is a great deal in the gospel which such a man as Paul might be tempted to be ashamed of, especially that he whose gospel it is was a man hanged upon a tree, that the doctrine of it was plain, had little in it to set it off among scholars, the professors of it were mean and despised, and every where spoken against; yet Paul was not ashamed to own it. I reckon him a Christian indeed that is neither ashamed of the gospel nor a shame to it. The reason of this bold profession, taken from the nature and excellency of the gospel, introduces his dissertation.
Rom 1:19-32
In this last part of the chapter the apostle applies what he had said particularly to the Gentile world, in which we may observe,
Now lay all this together, and then say whether the Gentile world, lying under so much guilt and corruption, could be justified before God by any works of their own.
