9 For G1063 this, Thou shalt G3431 not G3756 commit adultery, G3431 Thou shalt G5407 not G3756 kill, G5407 Thou shalt G2813 not G3756 steal, G2813 Thou shalt G5576 not G3756 bear false witness, G5576 Thou shalt G1937 not G3756 covet; G1937 and G2532 if there be any G1536 other G2087 commandment, G1785 it is briefly comprehended G346 in G1722 this G5129 saying, G3056 namely, G1722 Thou shalt love G25 thy G4675 neighbour G4139 as G5613 thyself. G1438
Thou shalt not avenge, H5358 nor bear any grudge H5201 against the children H1121 of thy people, H5971 but thou shalt love H157 thy neighbour H7453 as thyself: H3644 I am the LORD. H3068
He saith G3004 unto him, G846 Which? G4169 G1161 Jesus G2424 said, G2036 Thou shalt do G5407 no G3756 murder, G5407 Thou shalt G3431 not G3756 commit adultery, G3431 Thou shalt G2813 not G3756 steal, G2813 Thou shalt G5576 not G3756 bear false witness, G5576 Honour G5091 thy G4675 father G3962 and G2532 thy mother: G3384 and, G2532 Thou shalt love G25 thy G4675 neighbour G4139 as G5613 thyself. G4572
Honour H3513 thy father H1 and thy mother: H517 that thy days H3117 may be long H748 upon the land H127 which the LORD H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 thee. Thou shalt not kill. H7523 Thou shalt not commit adultery. H5003 Thou shalt not steal. H1589 Thou shalt not bear H6030 false H8267 witness H5707 against thy neighbour. H7453 Thou shalt not covet H2530 thy neighbour's H7453 house, H1004 thou shalt not covet H2530 thy neighbour's H7453 wife, H802 nor his manservant, H5650 nor his maidservant, H519 nor his ox, H7794 nor his ass, H2543 nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. H7453
And G2532 the second G1208 is like, G3664 namely this, G3778 G846 Thou shalt love G25 thy G4675 neighbour G4139 as G5613 thyself. G4572 There is G2076 none G3756 other G243 commandment G1785 greater G3187 than these. G5130
And G1161 he answering G611 said, G2036 Thou shalt love G25 the Lord G2962 thy G4675 God G2316 with G1537 all G3650 thy G4675 heart, G2588 and G2532 with G1537 all G3650 thy G4675 soul, G5590 and G2532 with G1537 all G3650 thy G4675 strength, G2479 and G2532 with G1537 all G3650 thy G4675 mind; G1271 and G2532 thy G4675 neighbour G4139 as G5613 thyself. G4572
What G5101 shall we say G2046 then? G3767 Is the law G3551 sin? G266 God forbid. G3361 G1096 Nay, G235 I had G1097 not G3756 known G1097 sin, G266 but G1508 by G1223 the law: G3551 for G1063 G5037 I had G1492 not G3756 known G1492 lust, G1939 except G1508 the law G3551 had said, G3004 Thou shalt G1937 not G3756 covet. G1937 But G1161 sin, G266 taking G2983 occasion G874 by G1223 the commandment, G1785 wrought G2716 in G1722 me G1698 all manner of G3956 concupiscence. G1939 For G1063 without G5565 the law G3551 sin G266 was dead. G3498
But the stranger H1616 that dwelleth H1481 with you shall be unto you as one born H249 among you, and thou shalt love H157 him as thyself; for ye were strangers H1616 in the land H776 of Egypt: H4714 I am the LORD H3068 your God. H430
Honour H3513 thy father H1 and thy mother, H517 as the LORD H3068 thy God H430 hath commanded H6680 thee; that thy days H3117 may be prolonged, H748 and that it may go well H3190 with thee, in the land H127 which the LORD H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 thee. Thou shalt not kill. H7523 Neither shalt thou commit adultery. H5003 Neither shalt thou steal. H1589 Neither shalt thou bear H6030 false H7723 witness H5707 against thy neighbour. H7453 Neither shalt thou desire H2530 thy neighbour's H7453 wife, H802 neither shalt thou covet H183 thy neighbour's H7453 house, H1004 his field, H7704 or his manservant, H5650 or his maidservant, H519 his ox, H7794 or his ass, H2543 or any thing that is thy neighbour's. H7453
Thou knowest G1492 the commandments, G1785 Do G3431 not G3361 commit adultery, G3431 Do G5407 not G3361 kill, G5407 Do G2813 not G3361 steal, G2813 Do G5576 not G3361 bear false witness, G5576 Defraud G650 not, G3361 Honour G5091 thy G4675 father G3962 and G2532 mother. G3384
If G1487 G3305 ye fulfil G5055 the royal G937 law G3551 according to G2596 the scripture, G1124 Thou shalt love G25 thy G4675 neighbour G4139 as G5613 thyself, G4572 ye do G4160 well: G2573 But G1161 if G1487 ye have respect to persons, G4380 ye commit G2038 sin, G266 and are convinced G1651 of G5259 the law G3551 as G5613 transgressors. G3848 For G1063 whosoever G3748 shall keep G5083 the whole G3650 law, G3551 and yet G1161 offend G4417 in G1722 one G1520 point, he is G1096 guilty G1777 of all. G3956

Commentary on Romans 13 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 13
There are three good lessons taught us in this chapter, where the apostle enlarges more upon his precepts than he had done in the foregoing chapter, finding them more needful to be fully pressed.
Rom 13:1-6
We are here taught how to conduct ourselves towards magistrates, and those that are in authority over us, called here the higher powers, intimating their authority (they are powers), and their dignity (they are higher powers), including not only the king as supreme, but all inferior magistrates under him: and yet it is expressed, not by the persons that are in that power, but the place of power itself, in which they are. However the persons themselves may be wicked, and of those vile persons whom the citizen of Zion contemneth (Ps. 15:4), yet the just power which they have must be submitted to and obeyed. The apostle had taught us, in the foregoing chapter, not to avenge ourselves, nor to recompense evil for evil; but, lest it should seem as if this did cancel the ordinance of a civil magistracy among Christians, he takes occasion to assert the necessity of it, and of the due infliction of punishment upon evil doers, however it may look like recompensing evil for evil. Observe,
Rom 13:7-10
We are here taught a lesson of justice and charity.
Rom 13:11-14
We are here taught a lesson of sobriety and godliness in ourselves. Our main care must be to look to ourselves. Four things we are here taught, as a Christian's directory for his day's work: when to awake, how to dress ourselves, how to walk, and what provision to make.
