1 G2228 Know ye not, G50 brethren, G80 (for G1063 I speak G2980 to them that know G1097 the law,) G3551 how that G3754 the law G3551 hath dominion over G2961 a man G444 as long as G1909 G3745 G5550 he liveth? G2198
For the commandment H4687 is a lamp; H5216 and the law H8451 is light; H216 and reproofs H8433 of instruction H4148 are the way H1870 of life: H2416
But G1161 now G3570 we are delivered G2673 from G575 the law, G3551 that being dead G599 G599 wherein G1722 G3739 we were held; G2722 that G5620 we G2248 should serve G1398 in G1722 newness G2538 of spirit, G4151 and G2532 not G3756 in the oldness G3821 of the letter. G1121
Say I G2980 these things G5023 as G3361 G2596 a man? G444 or G2228 saith G3004 not G3780 the law G3551 the same G5023 also? G2532
Tell G3004 me, G3427 ye that desire G2309 to be G1511 under G5259 the law, G3551 do ye G191 not G3756 hear G191 the law? G3551
And thou, H607 Ezra, H5831 after the wisdom H2452 of thy God, H426 that is in thine hand, H3028 set H4483 magistrates H8200 and judges, H1782 which may judge H1934 H1778 all H3606 the people H5972 that are beyond H5675 the river, H5103 all H3606 such as know H3046 the laws H1882 of thy God; H426 and teach H3046 ye them that know H3046 them not. H3809
Now G1161 I would G2309 not G3756 have G50 you G5209 ignorant, G50 brethren, G80 that G3754 oftentimes G4178 I purposed G4388 to come G2064 unto G4314 you, G5209 (but G2532 was let G2967 hitherto,) G891 G1204 that G2443 I might have G2192 some G5100 fruit G2590 among G1722 you G5213 also, G2532 even as G2531 G2532 among G1722 other G3062 Gentiles. G1484
Behold, G2396 thou G4771 art called G2028 a Jew, G2453 and G2532 restest G1879 in the law, G3551 and G2532 makest thy boast G2744 of G1722 God, G2316 And G2532 knowest G1097 his will, G2307 and G2532 approvest G1381 the things that are more excellent, G1308 being instructed G2727 out of G1537 the law; G3551

Commentary on Romans 7 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 7
We may observe in this chapter,
Rom 7:1-6
Among other arguments used in the foregoing chapter to persuade us against sin, and to holiness, this was one (v. 14), that we are not under the law; and this argument is here further insisted upon and explained (v. 6): We are delivered from the law. What is meant by this? And how is it an argument why sin should not reign over us, and why we should walk in newness of life?
Rom 7:7-14
To what he had said in the former paragraph, the apostle here raises an objection, which he answers very fully: What shall we say then? Is the law sin? When he had been speaking of the dominion of sin, he had said so much of the influence of the law as a covenant upon that dominion that it might easily be misinterpreted as a reflection upon the law, to prevent which he shows from his own experience the great excellency and usefulness of the law, not as a covenant, but as a guide; and further discovers how sin took occasion by the commandment. Observe in particular,
Rom 7:14-25
Here is a description of the conflict between grace and corruption in the heart, between the law of God and the law of sin. And it is applicable two ways:-
