9 Holding fast G472 the faithful G4103 word G3056 as G2596 he hath been taught, G1322 that G2443 he may be G5600 able G1415 by G1722 sound G5198 doctrine G1319 both G2532 to exhort G3870 and G2532 to convince G1651 the gainsayers. G483
For whoremongers, G4205 for them that defile themselves with mankind, G733 for menstealers, G405 for liars, G5583 for perjured persons, G1965 and G2532 if there be any G1536 other thing G2087 that is contrary G480 to sound G5198 doctrine; G1319
Therefore, G686 G3767 brethren, G80 stand fast, G4739 and G2532 hold G2902 the traditions G3862 which G3739 ye have been taught, G1321 whether G1535 by G1223 word, G3056 or G1535 G1223 our G2257 epistle. G1992
Prove G1381 all things; G3956 hold fast G2722 that which G3588 is good. G2570
And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto Satan, H7854 Hast thou H7760 considered H3820 my servant H5650 Job, H347 that there is none like him in the earth, H776 a perfect H8535 and an upright H3477 man, H376 one that feareth H3373 God, H430 and escheweth H5493 evil? H7451 and still he holdeth fast H2388 his integrity, H8538 although thou movedst H5496 me against him, to destroy H1104 him without cause. H2600
Beloved, G27 when I gave G4160 all G3956 diligence G4710 to write G1125 unto you G5213 of G4012 the common G2839 salvation, G4991 it was G2192 needful G318 for me G2192 to write G1125 unto you, G5213 and exhort G3870 you that ye should earnestly contend G1864 for the faith G4102 which was once G530 delivered G3860 unto the saints. G40
Behold, G2400 I come G2064 quickly: G5035 hold that fast G2902 which G3739 thou hast, G2192 that G2443 no man G3367 take G2983 thy G4675 crown. G4735
Remember G3421 therefore G3767 how G4459 thou hast received G2983 and G2532 heard, G191 and G2532 hold fast, G5083 and G2532 repent. G3340 If G3362 therefore G3767 thou shalt G1127 not G3362 watch, G1127 I will come G2240 on G1909 thee G4571 as G5613 a thief, G2812 and G2532 thou shalt G1097 not G3364 know G1097 what G4169 hour G5610 I will come G2240 upon G1909 thee. G4571
My righteousness H6666 I hold H2388 fast, and will not let it go: H7503 my heart H3824 shall not reproach H2778 me so long as I live. H3117
In G4012 all things G3956 shewing G3930 thyself G4572 a pattern G5179 of good G2570 works: G2041 in G1722 doctrine G1319 shewing uncorruptness, G90 gravity, G4587 sincerity, G861 Sound G5199 speech, G3056 that cannot be condemned; G176 that G2443 he that is of G1537 the contrary part G1727 may be ashamed, G1788 having G2192 no G3367 evil G5337 thing G3367 to say G3004 of G4012 you. G5216
For G1063 the time G2540 will come G2071 when G3753 they will G430 not G3756 endure G430 sound G5198 doctrine; G1319 but G235 after G2596 their own G2398 lusts G1939 shall they heap G2002 to themselves G1438 teachers, G1320 having itching G2833 ears; G189
This is a faithful G4103 saying G3056 and G2532 worthy G514 of all G3956 acceptation. G594

Commentary on Titus 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 1
In this chapter we have,
Tts 1:1-4
Here is the preface to the epistle, showing,
Thus far is the preface to the epistle; then follows the entrance into the matter, by signifying the end of Titus's being left in Crete.
Tts 1:5
Here is the end expressed,
Tts 1:6-16
The apostle here gives Titus directions about ordination, showing whom he should ordain, and whom not.
Objection. But are not these judaizers (as you call them) men who profess religion, and speak well of God, and Christ, and righteousness of life, and should they be so severely taxed? Answer, They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and to every good work reprobate, v. 16. There are many who in word and tongue profess to know God, and yet in their lives and conversations deny and reject him; their practice is a contradiction to their profession. They come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness, Eze. 33:31. Being abominable, and disobedient, and to every good work reprobate. The apostle, instructing Titus to rebuke sharply, does himself rebuke sharply; he gives them very hard words, yet doubtless no harder than their case warranted and their need required. Being abominable-bdelyktoi, deserving that God and good men should turn away their eyes from them as nauseous and offensive. And disobedient-apeitheis, unpersuadable and unbelieving. They might do divers things; but it was not the obedience of faith, nor what was commanded, or short of the command. To every good work reprobate, without skill or judgment to do any thing aright. See the miserable condition of hypocrites, such as have a form of godliness, but without the power; yet let us not be so ready to fix this charge on others as careful that it agree not to ourselves, that there be not in us an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God; but that we be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ unto the glory and praise of God, Phil. 1:10, 11.
