13 Looking for G4327 that blessed G3107 hope, G1680 and G2532 the glorious G1391 appearing G2015 of the great G3173 God G2316 and G2532 our G2257 Saviour G4990 Jesus G2424 Christ; G5547
Looking for G4328 and G2532 hasting G4692 unto the coming G3952 of the day G2250 of God, G2316 wherein G1223 G3739 the heavens G3772 being on fire G4448 shall be dissolved, G3089 and G2532 the elements G4747 shall melt G5080 with fervent heat? G2741 Nevertheless G1161 we, G4328 according to G2596 his G846 promise, G1862 look for G4328 new G2537 heavens G3772 and G2532 a new G2537 earth, G1093 wherein G1722 G3739 dwelleth G2730 righteousness. G1343 Wherefore, G1352 beloved, G27 seeing that ye look for G4328 such things, G5023 be diligent G4704 that ye may be found G2147 of him G846 in G1722 peace, G1515 without spot, G784 and G2532 blameless. G298
Beloved, G27 now G3568 are we G2070 the sons G5043 of God, G2316 and G2532 it doth G5319 not yet G3768 appear G5319 what G5101 we shall be: G2071 but G1161 we know G1492 that, G3754 when G1437 he shall appear, G5319 we shall be G2071 like G3664 him; G846 for G3754 we shall see G3700 him G846 as G2531 he is. G2076 And G2532 every man G3956 that hath G2192 this G5026 hope G1680 in G1909 him G846 purifieth G48 himself, G1438 even as G2531 he G1565 is G2076 pure. G53
That G2443 by G1223 two G1417 immutable G276 things, G4229 in G1722 which G3739 it was impossible G102 for God G2316 to lie, G5574 we might have G2192 a strong G2478 consolation, G3874 who G3588 have fled for refuge G2703 to lay hold G2902 upon the hope G1680 set before us: G4295 Which G3739 hope we have G2192 as G5613 an anchor G45 of the soul, G5590 both G5037 sure G804 and G2532 stedfast, G949 and G2532 which entereth G1525 into G1519 that within G2082 the veil; G2665
Which G3739 he shed G1632 on G1909 us G2248 abundantly G4146 through G1223 Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 our G2257 Saviour; G4990 That G2443 being justified by G1344 his G1565 grace, G5485 we should be made G1096 heirs G2818 according to G2596 the hope G1680 of eternal G166 life. G2222
I give G3853 thee G4671 charge G3853 in the sight G1799 of God, G2316 who G3588 quickeneth G2227 all things, G3956 and G2532 before Christ G5547 Jesus, G2424 who G3588 before G1909 Pontius G4194 Pilate G4091 witnessed G3140 a good G2570 confession; G3671 That thou G4571 keep G5083 this commandment G1785 without spot, G784 unrebukeable, G423 until G3360 the appearing G2015 of our G2257 Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ: G5547
For G1063 we are saved G4982 by hope: G1680 but G1161 hope G1680 that is seen G991 is G2076 not G3756 hope: G1680 for G1063 what G3739 a man G5100 seeth, G991 why G5101 doth he G1679 yet G2532 hope for? G1679 But G1161 if G1487 we hope G1679 for that G3739 we see G991 not, G3756 then do we G553 with G1223 patience G5281 wait for G553 it.
For I know H3045 that my redeemer H1350 liveth, H2416 and that he shall stand H6965 at the latter H314 day upon the earth: H6083 And though after H310 my skin H5785 worms destroy H5362 this body, yet in my flesh H1320 shall I see H2372 God: H433 Whom I shall see H2372 for myself, and mine eyes H5869 shall behold, H7200 and not another; H2114 though my reins H3629 be consumed H3615 within H2436 me.
For G1063 our G2257 conversation G4175 is G5225 in G1722 heaven; G3772 from G1537 whence G3739 also G2532 we look for G553 the Saviour, G4990 the Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ: G5547 Who G3739 shall change G3345 our G2257 vile G5014 body, G4983 that G1519 it G846 may be G1096 fashioned like unto G4832 his G846 glorious G1391 body, G4983 according to G2596 the working G1753 whereby he G846 is able G1410 even G2532 to subdue G5293 all things G3956 unto himself. Commentary on Titus 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
The apostle here directs Titus about the faithful discharge of his own office generally (v. 1), and particularly as to several sorts of persons (v. 2-10) and gives the grounds of these and of other following directions (v. 11-14), with a summary direction in the close (v. 15).
Tts 2:1-10
Here is the third thing in the matter of the epistle. In the chapter foregoing, the apostle had directed Titus about matters of government, and to set in order the things that were wanting in the churches. Now here he exhorts him,
Tts 2:11-14
Here we have the grounds or considerations upon which all the foregoing directions are urged, taken from the nature and design of the gospel, and the end of Christ's death.
Tts 2:15
The apostle closes the chapter (as he began it) with a summary direction to Titus upon the whole, in which we have the matter and manner of ministers' teaching, and a special instruction to Titus in reference to himself.
Perhaps too an admonition might be here intended to the people-that Titus, though young, and but a substitute of the apostle, yet should not be condemned by them, but considered and respected as a faithful minister of Christ, and encouraged and supported in his work and office. "Know those that labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; and esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake, 1 Th. 5:12, 13. Mind their teaching, respect their persons, support them in their function, and, what in you lies, further their endeavours for the honour of God and the salvation of souls.'
