15 These things G5023 speak, G2980 and G2532 exhort, G3870 and G2532 rebuke G1651 with G3326 all G3956 authority. G2003 Let G4065 no man G3367 despise G4065 thee. G4675
Preach G2784 the word; G3056 be instant G2186 in season, G2122 out of season; G171 reprove, G1651 rebuke, G2008 exhort G3870 with G1722 all G3956 longsuffering G3115 and G2532 doctrine. G1322
For G1063 he taught G1321 G2258 them G846 as G5613 one having G2192 authority, G1849 and G2532 not G3756 as G5613 the scribes. G1122
And G2532 they were astonished G1605 at G1909 his G846 doctrine: G1322 for G1063 he taught G1321 G2258 them G846 as G5613 one that had G2192 authority, G1849 and G2532 not G3756 as G5613 the scribes. G1122
And G2532 they were G2284 all G3956 amazed, G2284 insomuch that G5620 they questioned G4802 among G4314 themselves, G846 saying, G3004 What thing G5101 is G2076 this? G3778 what G5101 new G2537 doctrine G1322 is this? G5124 for G3754 with G2596 authority G1849 commandeth G2004 he even G2532 the unclean G169 spirits, G4151 and G2532 they do obey G5219 him. G846
And G2532 they were G1096 all G1909 G3956 amazed, G2285 and G2532 spake G4814 among G4314 themselves, G240 saying, G3004 What G5101 a word G3056 is this! G3778 for G3754 with G1722 authority G1849 and G2532 power G1411 he commandeth G2004 the unclean G169 spirits, G4151 and G2532 they come out. G1831
Let G2706 no man G3367 despise G2706 thy G4675 youth; G3503 but G235 be thou G1096 an example G5179 of the believers, G4103 in G1722 word, G3056 in G1722 conversation, G391 in G1722 charity, G26 in G1722 spirit, G4151 in G1722 faith, G4102 in G1722 purity. Commentary on Titus 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
The apostle here directs Titus about the faithful discharge of his own office generally (v. 1), and particularly as to several sorts of persons (v. 2-10) and gives the grounds of these and of other following directions (v. 11-14), with a summary direction in the close (v. 15).
Tts 2:1-10
Here is the third thing in the matter of the epistle. In the chapter foregoing, the apostle had directed Titus about matters of government, and to set in order the things that were wanting in the churches. Now here he exhorts him,
Tts 2:11-14
Here we have the grounds or considerations upon which all the foregoing directions are urged, taken from the nature and design of the gospel, and the end of Christ's death.
Tts 2:15
The apostle closes the chapter (as he began it) with a summary direction to Titus upon the whole, in which we have the matter and manner of ministers' teaching, and a special instruction to Titus in reference to himself.
Perhaps too an admonition might be here intended to the people-that Titus, though young, and but a substitute of the apostle, yet should not be condemned by them, but considered and respected as a faithful minister of Christ, and encouraged and supported in his work and office. "Know those that labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; and esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake, 1 Th. 5:12, 13. Mind their teaching, respect their persons, support them in their function, and, what in you lies, further their endeavours for the honour of God and the salvation of souls.'
