10 All the land H776 shall be turned H5437 as a plain H6160 from Geba H1387 to Rimmon H7417 south H5045 of Jerusalem: H3389 and it shall be lifted up, H7213 and inhabited H3427 in her place, from Benjamin's H1144 gate H8179 unto the place H4725 of the first H7223 gate, H8179 unto the corner H6434 gate, H8179 and from the tower H4026 of Hananeel H2606 unto the king's H4428 winepresses. H3342
In that day H3117 will I make H7760 the governors H441 of Judah H3063 like an hearth H3595 of fire H784 among the wood, H6086 and like a torch H3940 of fire H784 in a sheaf; H5995 and they shall devour H398 all the people H5971 round about, H5439 on the right hand H3225 and on the left: H8040 and Jerusalem H3389 shall be inhabited H3427 again in her own place, even in Jerusalem. H3389
And when he was in the gate H8179 of Benjamin, H1144 a captain H1167 of the ward H6488 was there, whose name H8034 was Irijah, H3376 the son H1121 of Shelemiah, H8018 the son H1121 of Hananiah; H2608 and he took H8610 Jeremiah H3414 the prophet, H5030 saying, H559 Thou fallest away H5307 to the Chaldeans. H3778
Thus saith H559 the LORD; H3068 Behold, I will bring again H7725 the captivity H7622 of Jacob's H3290 tents, H168 and have mercy H7355 on his dwellingplaces; H4908 and the city H5892 shall be builded H1129 upon her own heap, H8510 and the palace H759 shall remain H3427 after the manner H4941 thereof.
Then king H4428 Asa H609 made a proclamation H8085 throughout all Judah; H3063 none was exempted: H5355 and they took H5375 away the stones H68 of Ramah, H7414 and the timber H6086 thereof, wherewith Baasha H1201 had builded; H1129 and king H4428 Asa H609 built H1129 with them Geba H1387 of Benjamin, H1144 and Mizpah. H4709
Now when Ebedmelech H5663 the Ethiopian, H3569 one H376 of the eunuchs H5631 which was in the king's H4428 house, H1004 heard H8085 that they had put H5414 Jeremiah H3414 in the dungeon; H953 the king H4428 then sitting H3427 in the gate H8179 of Benjamin; H1144
Then Eliashib H475 the high H1419 priest H3548 rose up H6965 with his brethren H251 the priests, H3548 and they builded H1129 the sheep H6629 gate; H8179 they sanctified H6942 it, and set up H5975 the doors H1817 of it; even unto the tower H4026 of Meah H3968 they sanctified H6942 it, unto the tower H4026 of Hananeel. H2606
And they turned H6437 and fled H5127 toward the wilderness H4057 unto the rock H5553 of Rimmon: H7417 and they gleaned H5953 of them in the highways H4546 five H2568 thousand H505 men; H376 and pursued H1692 hard after H310 them unto Gidom, H1440 and slew H5221 two thousand H505 men H376 of them.
Then he answered H6030 and spake H559 unto me, saying, H559 This is the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 unto Zerubbabel, H2216 saying, H559 Not by might, H2428 nor by power, H3581 but by my spirit, H7307 saith H559 the LORD H3068 of hosts. H6635 Who art thou, O great H1419 mountain? H2022 before H6440 Zerubbabel H2216 thou shalt become a plain: H4334 and he shall bring forth H3318 the headstone H68 H7222 thereof with shoutings, H8663 crying, Grace, H2580 grace H2580 unto it.
As G5613 it is written G1125 in G1722 the book G976 of the words G3056 of Esaias G2268 the prophet, G4396 saying, G3004 The voice G5456 of one crying G994 in G1722 the wilderness, G2048 Prepare ye G2090 the way G3598 of the Lord, G2962 make G4160 his G846 paths G5147 straight. G2117 Every G3956 valley G5327 shall be G2071 filled, G4137 and G2532 every G3956 mountain G3735 and G2532 hill G1015 shall be brought low; G5013 and G2532 the crooked G4646 shall be made G1519 straight, G2117 and G2532 the rough G5138 ways G3598 shall be made G1519 smooth; G3006 And G2532 all G3956 flesh G4561 shall see G3700 the salvation G4992 of God. G2316
And out of the tribe H4294 of Benjamin, H1144 Gibeon H1391 with her suburbs, H4054 Geba H1387 with her suburbs, H4054
In that day H3117 will I raise up H6965 the tabernacle H5521 of David H1732 that is fallen, H5307 and close up H1443 the breaches H6556 thereof; and I will raise up H6965 his ruins, H2034 and I will build H1129 it as in the days H3117 of old: H5769
Behold, the days H3117 come, H935 saith H5002 the LORD, H3068 that the city H5892 shall be built H1129 to the LORD H3068 from the tower H4026 of Hananeel H2606 unto the gate H8179 of the corner. H6438 And the measuring H4060 line H6957 H6961 shall yet go forth H3318 over against it upon the hill H1389 Gareb, H1619 and shall compass about H5437 to Goath. H1601 And the whole valley H6010 of the dead bodies, H6297 and of the ashes, H1880 and all the fields H7709 H8309 unto the brook H5158 of Kidron, H6939 unto the corner H6438 of the horse H5483 gate H8179 toward the east, H4217 shall be holy H6944 unto the LORD; H3068 it shall not be plucked up, H5428 nor thrown down H2040 any more for ever. H5769
The voice H6963 of him that crieth H7121 in the wilderness, H4057 Prepare H6437 ye the way H1870 of the LORD, H3068 make straight H3474 in the desert H6160 a highway H4546 for our God. H430 Every valley H1516 shall be exalted, H5375 and every mountain H2022 and hill H1389 shall be made low: H8213 and the crooked H6121 shall be made straight, H4334 and the rough places H7406 plain: H1237
They are gone over H5674 the passage: H4569 they have taken up their lodging H4411 at Geba; H1387 Ramah H7414 is afraid; H2729 Gibeah H1390 of Saul H7586 is fled. H5127
And from above the gate H8179 of Ephraim, H669 and above the old H3465 gate, H8179 and above the fish H1709 gate, H8179 and the tower H4026 of Hananeel, H2606 and the tower H4026 of Meah, H3968 even unto the sheep H6629 gate: H8179 and they stood still H5975 in the prison H4307 gate. H8179
And Joash H3101 the king H4428 of Israel H3478 took H8610 Amaziah H558 king H4428 of Judah, H3063 the son H1121 of Joash, H3101 the son H1121 of Jehoahaz, H3059 at Bethshemesh, H1053 and brought H935 him to Jerusalem, H3389 and brake down H6555 the wall H2346 of Jerusalem H3389 from the gate H8179 of Ephraim H669 to the corner H6437 gate, H8179 four H702 hundred H3967 cubits. Commentary on Zechariah 14 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 14
Divers things were foretold, in the two foregoing chapters, which should come to pass "in that day;' this chapter speaks of a "day of the Lord that cometh,' a day of his judgment, and ten times in the foregoing chapters, and seven times in this, it is repeated, "in that day;' but what that day is that is here meant is uncertain, and perhaps will be so (as the Jews speak) till Elias comes; whether it refer to the whole period of time from the prophet's days to the days of the Messiah, or to some particular events in that time, or to Christ's coming, and the setting up of his kingdom upon the ruins of the Jewish polity, we cannot determine, but divers passages here seem to look as far forward as gospel-times. Now the "day of the Lord' brings with it both judgment and mercy, mercy to his church, judgment to her enemies and persecutors.
Zec 14:1-7
God's providences concerning his church are here represented as strangely changing and strangely mixed.
Zec 14:8-15
Here are,
Zec 14:16-21
Three things are here foretold:-
