2 Then said H559 I, Whither goest H1980 thou? And he said H559 unto me, To measure H4058 Jerusalem, H3389 to see H7200 what H4100 is the breadth H7341 thereof, and what is the length H753 thereof.
And the measuring H4060 line H6957 H6961 shall yet go forth H3318 over against it upon the hill H1389 Gareb, H1619 and shall compass about H5437 to Goath. H1601
And ye shall appoint H5414 the possession H272 of the city H5892 five H2568 thousand H505 broad, H7341 and five H2568 and twenty H6242 thousand H505 long, H753 over against H5980 the oblation H8641 of the holy H6944 portion: it shall be for the whole house H1004 of Israel. H3478
And G2532 he that talked G2980 with G3326 me G1700 had G2192 a golden G5552 reed G2563 to G2443 measure G3354 the city, G4172 and G2532 the gates G4440 thereof, G846 and G2532 the wall G5038 thereof. G846 And G2532 the city G4172 lieth G2749 foursquare, G5068 and G2532 the length G3372 G846 is G2076 as large G5118 as G3745 G2532 the breadth: G4114 and G2532 he measured G3354 the city G4172 with the reed, G2563 G1909 twelve G1427 thousand G5505 furlongs. G4712 The length G3372 and G2532 the breadth G4114 and G2532 the height G5311 of it G846 are G2076 equal. G2470 And G2532 he measured G3354 the wall G5038 thereof, G846 an hundred G1540 and forty G5062 and four G5064 cubits, G4083 according to the measure G3358 of a man, G444 that is, G3603 of the angel. G32
And he brought H935 me thither, and, behold, there was a man, H376 whose appearance H4758 was like the appearance H4758 of brass, H5178 with a line H6616 of flax H6593 in his hand, H3027 and a measuring H4060 reed; H7070 and he stood H5975 in the gate. H8179
And the five H2568 thousand, H505 that are left H3498 in the breadth H7341 over against H6440 the five H2568 and twenty H6242 thousand, H505 shall be a profane H2455 place for the city, H5892 for dwelling, H4186 and for suburbs: H4054 and the city H5892 shall be in the midst H8432 thereof. And these shall be the measures H4060 thereof; the north H6828 side H6285 four H702 thousand H505 and five H2568 hundred, H3967 and the south H5045 side H6285 four H702 thousand H505 and five H2568 hundred, H3967 and on the east H6921 side H6285 four H702 thousand H505 and five H2568 hundred, H3967 and the west H3220 side H6285 four H702 thousand H505 and five H2568 H2568 hundred. H3967 And the suburbs H4054 of the city H5892 shall be toward the north H6828 two hundred H3967 and fifty, H2572 and toward the south H5045 two hundred H3967 and fifty, H2572 and toward the east H6921 two hundred H3967 and fifty, H2572 and toward the west H3220 two hundred H3967 and fifty. H2572
And these are the goings out H8444 of the city H5892 on the north H6828 side, H6285 four H702 thousand H505 and five H2568 hundred H3967 measures. H4060 And the gates H8179 of the city H5892 shall be after the names H8034 of the tribes H7626 of Israel: H3478 three H7969 gates H8179 northward; H6828 one H259 gate H8179 of Reuben, H7205 one H259 gate H8179 of Judah, H3063 one H259 gate H8179 of Levi. H3878 And at the east H6921 side H6285 four H702 thousand H505 and five H2568 hundred: H3967 and three H7969 gates; H8179 and one H259 gate H8179 of Joseph, H3130 one H259 gate H8179 of Benjamin, H1144 one H259 gate H8179 of Dan. H1835 And at the south H5045 side H6285 four H702 thousand H505 and five H2568 hundred H3967 measures: H4060 and three H7969 gates; H8179 one H259 gate H8179 of Simeon, H8095 one H259 gate H8179 of Issachar, H3485 one H259 gate H8179 of Zebulun. H2074 At the west H3220 side H6285 four H702 thousand H505 and five H2568 hundred, H3967 with their three H7969 gates; H8179 one H259 gate H8179 of Gad, H1410 one H259 gate H8179 of Asher, H836 one H259 gate H8179 of Naphtali. H5321 It was round about H5439 eighteen H8083 H6240 thousand H505 measures: and the name H8034 of the city H5892 from that day H3117 shall be, The LORD is there. H3074
Then said H559 I to the angel H4397 that talked H1696 with me, Whither do these bear H3212 the ephah? H374
But G1161 now G3568 I go my way G5217 to G4314 him that sent G3992 me; G3165 and G2532 none G3762 of G1537 you G5216 asketh G2065 me, G3165 Whither G4226 goest thou? G5217
And G2532 there was given G1325 me G3427 a reed G2563 like G3664 unto a rod: G4464 and G2532 the angel G32 stood, G2476 saying, G3004 Rise, G1453 and G2532 measure G3354 the temple G3485 of God, G2316 and G2532 the altar, G2379 and G2532 them that worship G4352 therein. G1722 G846

Commentary on Zechariah 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
In this chapter we have,
Zec 2:1-5
This prophet was ordered, in God's name, to assure the people (ch. 1:16) that a line should be stretched forth upon Jerusalem. Now here we have that promise illustrated and confirmed, that the prophet might deliver that part of his message to the people with the more clearness and assurance.
Zec 2:6-9
One would have thought that Cyrus's proclamation, which gave liberty to the captive Jews to return to their own land, would suffice to bring them all back, and that, as when Pharaoh gave them leave to quit Egypt and their house of bondage there, they would not leave a hoof behind; but it seems it had not that effect. There were about 40,000 whose spirits God stirred up to go, and they went; but many, perhaps the greater part, staid behind. The land of their captivity was to most of them the land of their nativity; they had taken root there, had gained a settlement, and many of them a very comfortable one; some perhaps had got estates and preferments there, and they did not think they could better themselves by returning to their own land. Patria est ubicunque bene est-My country is every spot where I feel myself happy. They had no great affection to their own land, and apprehended the difficulties in their way to it insuperable. This proceeded from a bad cause-a distrust of the power and promise of God, a love of ease and worldly wealth, and an indifference to the religion of their country and to the God of Israel himself; and it had a bad effect, for it was a tacit censure of those as foolish, rash, and given to change, that did return, and a weakening of their hands in the work of God. Such as these could not sing (Ps. 137) in their captivity, for they had forgotten thee, O Jerusalem! and were so far from preferring thee before their chief joy that they preferred any joy before thee. Here is therefore another proclamation issued out by the God of Israel, strictly charging and commanding all his free-born subjects, wherever they were dispersed, speedily to return into their own land and render themselves at their respective posts there. They are loudly summoned (v. 6): Ho! ho! come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord. This fitly follows upon the promise of the rebuilding and enlarging of Jerusalem. If God will build it for them and their comfort, they must come and inhabit it for him and his glory, and not continue sneaking in Babylon. Note, The promises and privileges with which God's people are blessed should engage us, whatever it cost us, to join ourselves to them and cast in our lot among them. When Zion is enlarged, to make room for all God's Israel, it is the greatest madness imaginable for any of them to stay in Babylon. The captivity of a sinful state is by no means to be continued in, though a man be ever so easy upon temporal accounts. No: Come forth and flee with all speed, and lose no time. Escape for thy life; look not behind thee. To induce them to hasten their return, let them consider,
