12 Prove your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
So the steward took away their dainties, and the wine that they should drink, and gave them pulse.
God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree, which bears fruit yielding seed. It will be your food. To every animal of the earth, and to every bird of the sky, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food." And it was so.
He humbled you, and allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna, which you didn't know, neither did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread only, but by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of Yahweh does man live.

Commentary on Daniel 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
An Exposition, With Practical Observations, of
The Book of the Prophet Daniel
Chapter 1

Dan 1:1-7
We have in these verses an account,
Dan 1:8-16
We observe here, very much to our satisfaction,
Dan 1:17-21
Concerning Daniel and his fellows we have here,
