3 Let us arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went."
Yahweh said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your fathers, and to your relatives, and I will be with you."
Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed: and he divided the people who were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies;
Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble, And he delivered them out of their distresses,
Jacob was left alone, and wrestled with a man there until the breaking of the day.
Yahweh, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your handmaid. You have freed me from my chains. I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call on the name of Yahweh. I will pay my vows to Yahweh, Yes, in the presence of all his people,
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle on you.
For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more; he will surely be gracious to you at the voice of your cry; when he shall hear, he will answer you.
Open to me the gates of righteousness. I will enter into them. I will give thanks to Yah. This is the gate of Yahweh; The righteous will enter into it. I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me, And have become my salvation. The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner.
He dreamed. Behold, a stairway set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it. Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon you lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed.
Let them praise Yahweh for his loving kindness, For his wonderful works to the children of men!
> Praise Yahweh, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name! Praise Yahweh, my soul, And don't forget all his benefits; Who forgives all your sins; Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from destruction; Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies; Who satisfies your desire with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
I will come into your temple with burnt offerings. I will pay my vows to you, which my lips promised, And my mouth spoke, when I was in distress.
Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me."
Jacob vowed a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on, so that I come again to my father's house in peace, and Yahweh will be my God, then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God's house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give the tenth to you."
