18 See now, I have set my cause in order. I know that I am righteous.

"Truly I know that it is so, But how can man be just with God? If he is pleased to contend with him, He can't answer him one time in a thousand.
That he would maintain the right of a man with God, Of a son of man with his neighbor!
"Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me. Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?
Who could bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Job here comes to make application of what he had said in the foregoing chapter; and now we have him not in so good a temper as he was in then: for,
