31 Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of me tonight, for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'
"Awake, sword, against my shepherd, And against the man who is close to me," says Yahweh of Hosts. Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; And I will turn my hand against the little ones.
Behold, the time is coming, yes, and has now come, that you will be scattered, everyone to his own place, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
They were scattered, because there was no shepherd; and they became food to all the animals of the field, and were scattered. My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill: yes, my sheep were scattered on all the surface of the earth; and there was none who searched or sought.
Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me."
My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, As the channel of brooks that pass away; Which are black by reason of the ice, in which the snow hides itself: In the dry season, they vanish. When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place. The caravans that travel beside them turn aside; They go up into the waste, and perish. The caravans of Tema looked, The companies of Sheba waited for them. They were distressed because they were confident; They came there, and were confounded. For now you are nothing. You see a terror, and are afraid. Did I say, 'Give to me?' Or, 'Offer a present for me from your substance?'
"He has put my brothers far from me. My acquaintances are wholly estranged from me. My relatives have gone away. My familiar friends have forgotten me. Those who dwell in my house, and my maids, count me for a stranger. I am an alien in their sight. I call to my servant, and he gives me no answer; I beg him with my mouth.
My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague. My kinsmen stand far away.
You have put lover and friend far from me, And my friends into darkness.
Yet it pleased Yahweh to bruise him; he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Yahweh shall prosper in his hand.
Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name's sake. Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.
But all this has happened, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left him, and fled.
The Lord said, "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat, but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn't fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers{The word for "brothers" here may be also correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."}."
