1 > Hear my voice, God, in my complaint. Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Keep me as the apple of your eye; Hide me under the shadow of your wings, From the wicked who oppress me, My deadly enemies, who surround me.
Hear, Yahweh, when I cry with my voice. Have mercy also on me, and answer me.
For I have heard the slander of many, terror on every side, While they conspire together against me, They plot to take away my life. But I trust in you, Yahweh. I said, "You are my God." My times are in your hand. Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.
I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.
> Listen to my prayer, God. Don't hide yourself from my supplication. Attend to me, and answer me. I am restless in my complaint, and moan,
> Out of the depths I have cried to you, Yahweh. Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my petitions.
> Deliver me, Yahweh, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man;
> Hear my prayer, Yahweh. Listen to my petitions. In your faithfulness and righteousness, relieve me. Don't enter into judgment with your servant, For in your sight no man living is righteous. For the enemy pursues my soul. He has struck my life down to the ground. He has made me live in dark places, as those who have been long dead.
I called on your name, Yahweh, out of the lowest dungeon. You heard my voice; don't hide your ear at my breathing, at my cry.

Commentary on Psalms 64 Matthew Henry Commentary
Psalm 64
This whole psalm has reference to David's enemies, persecutors, and slanderers; many such there were, and a great deal of trouble they gave him, almost all his days, so that we need not guess at any particular occasion of penning this psalm.
In singing this psalm we must observe the effect of the old enmity that is in the seed of the woman against the seed of the serpent, and assure ourselves that the serpent's head will be broken, at last, to the honour and joy of the holy seed.
To the chief musician. A psalm of David.
Psa 64:1-6
David, in these verses, puts in before God a representation of his own danger and of his enemies' character, to enforce his petition that God would protect him and punish them.
Psa 64:7-10
