1 `Sons ye `are' to Jehovah your God; ye do not cut yourselves, nor make baldness between your eyes for the dead;
for ye are all sons of God through the faith in Christ Jesus,
that is, the children of the flesh -- these `are' not children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for seed;
And died have great and small in this land, They are not buried, and none lament for them, Nor doth any cut himself, nor become bald for them.
they do not make baldness on their head, and the corner of their beard they do not shave, and in their flesh they do not make a cutting;
The Spirit himself doth testify with our spirit, that we are children of God;
but as many as did receive him to them he gave authority to become sons of God -- to those believing in his name,
`Ye do not round the corner of your head, nor destroy the corner of thy beard. `And a cutting for the soul ye do not put in your flesh; and a writing, a cross-mark, ye do not put on you; I `am' Jehovah.
In this manifest are the children of God, and the children of the devil; every one who is not doing righteousness, is not of God, and he who is not loving his brother,
and sons of God see the daughters of men that they `are' fair, and they take to themselves women of all whom they have chosen.
See ye what love the Father hath given to us, that children of God we may be called; because of this the world doth not know us, because it did not know Him; beloved, now, children of God are we, and it was not yet manifested what we shall be, and we have known that if he may be manifested, like him we shall be, because we shall see him as he is;
And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, that ye may not sorrow, as also the rest who have not hope,
and I will be to you for a Father, and ye -- ye shall be to Me for sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.'
Come hath baldness unto Gaza, Cut off hath been Ashkelon, O remnant of their valley, Till when dost thou cut thyself?
And I have said, How do I put thee among the sons, And give to thee a desirable land, A beauteous inheritance of the hosts of nations, And I say, My father -- ye do call to Me, And from after Me ye do not turn back.
and thou hast said unto Pharaoh, Thus said Jehovah, My son, My first-born `is' Israel, and I say unto thee, Send away My son, and he doth serve Me; and -- thou dost refuse to send him away -- lo, I am slaying thy son, thy first-born.'

Commentary on Deuteronomy 14 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 14
Moses in this chapter teaches them,
Deu 14:1-21
Moses here tells the people of Israel,
Deu 14:22-29
We have here a part of the statute concerning tithes. The productions of the ground were twice tithed, so that, putting both together, a fifth part was devoted to God out of their increase, and only four parts of five were for their own common use; and they could not but own they paid an easy rent, especially since God's part was disposed of to their own benefit and advantage. The first tithe was for the maintenance of their Levites, who taught them the good knowledge of God, and ministered to them in holy things; this is supposed as anciently due, and is entailed upon the Levites as an inheritance, by that law, Num. 18:24, etc. But it is the second tithe that is here spoken of, which was to be taken out of the remainder when the Levites had had theirs.
