9 `I ask in regard to them; not in regard to the world do I ask, but in regard to those whom Thou hast given to me, because Thine they are,
and I besought for thee, that thy faith may not fail; and thou, when thou didst turn, strengthen thy brethren.'
and I will ask the Father, and another Comforter He will give to you, that he may remain with you -- to the age;
And those feeding `them', having seen what was come to pass, fled, and having gone, told `it' to the city, and to the fields;
`In that day, in my name ye will make request, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you, for the Father himself doth love you, because me ye have loved, and ye have believed that I from God came forth;
`And not in regard to these alone do I ask, but also in regard to those who shall be believing, through their word, in me;

My little children, these things I write to you, that ye may not sin: and if any one may sin, an advocate we have with the Father, Jesus Christ, a righteous one, and he -- he is a propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world,

Commentary on John 17 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 17
This chapter is a prayer, it is the Lord's prayer, the Lord Christ's prayer. There was one Lord's prayer which he taught us to pray, and did not pray himself, for he needed not to pray for the forgiveness of sin; but this was properly and peculiarly his, and suited him only as a Mediator, and is a sample of his intercession, and yet is of use to us both for instruction and encouragement in prayer. Jhn 17:17-19

Jhn 17:20-23

Jhn 17:24-26
