1 By David. Judge me, O Jehovah, for I in mine integrity have walked, And in Jehovah I have trusted, I slide not.
Jehovah doth judge the peoples; Judge me, O Jehovah, According to my righteousness, And according to mine integrity on me,
The righteous is walking habitually in his integrity, O the happiness of his sons after him!
`I pray Thee, O Jehovah, remember, I pray Thee, how I have walked habitually before Thee in truth, and with a perfect heart, and that which `is' good in Thine eyes I have done;' and Hezekiah weepeth -- a great weeping.
Only -- He `is' my rock and my salvation, My tower, I am not moved.
who, in the power of God are being guarded, through faith, unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time,
may we hold fast the unwavering profession of the hope, (for faithful `is' He who did promise),
and to me it is for a very little thing that by you I may be judged, or by man's day, but not even myself do I judge, for of nothing to myself have I been conscious, but not in this have I been declared right -- and he who is discerning me is the Lord: so, then, nothing before the time judge ye, till the Lord may come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of the darkness, and will manifest the counsels of the hearts, and then the praise shall come to each from God. And these things, brethren, I did transfer to myself and to Apollos because of you, that in us ye may learn not to think above that which hath been written, that ye may not be puffed up one for one against the other,
Fear of man causeth a snare, And the confident in Jehovah is set on high.
He suffereth not thy foot to be moved, Thy preserver slumbereth not.
If I have said, `My foot hath slipped,' Thy kindness, O Jehovah, supporteth me.
Only -- He `is' my rock, and my salvation, My tower, I am not much moved.
To the Overseer with stringed instruments. -- An instruction, by David, in the coming in of the Ziphim, and they say to Saul, `Is not David hiding himself with us?' O God, by Thy name save me, and by Thy might judge me.
The law of his God `is' his heart, His steps do not slide.
Judge me according to Thy righteousness, O Jehovah my God, And they do not rejoice over me.
And I, in mine integrity I walk, Redeem me, and favour me.
Integrity and uprightness do keep me, For I have waited `on' Thee.
For the king is trusting in Jehovah, And in the kindness of the Most High He is not moved.
He who is walking uprightly, And working righteousness, And speaking truth in his heart.

Commentary on Psalms 26 Matthew Henry Commentary
Psalm 26
Holy David is in this psalm putting himself upon a solemn trial, not by God and his country, but by God and his own conscience, to both which he appeals touching his integrity (v. 1, 2), for the proof of which he alleges,
In singing this psalm we must teach and admonish ourselves, and one another, what we must be and do that we may have the favour of God, and comfort in our own consciences, and comfort ourselves with it, as David does, if we can say that in any measure we have, through grace, answered to these characters. The learned Amyraldus, in his argument of his psalm, suggests that David is here, by the spirit of prophecy, carried out to speak of himself as a type of Christ, of whom what he here says of his spotless innocence, was fully and eminently true, and of him only, and to him we may apply it in singing this psalm. "We are complete in him.'
A psalm of David.
Psa 26:1-5
It is probable that David penned this psalm when he was persecuted by Saul and his party, who, to give some colour to their unjust rage, represented him as a very bad man, and falsely accused him of many high crimes and misdemeanors, dressed him up in the skins of wild beasts that they might bait him. Innocency itself is no fence to the name, though it is to the bosom, against the darts of calumny. Herein he was a type of Christ, who was made a reproach of men, and foretold to his followers that they also must have all manner of evil said against them falsely. Now see what David does in this case.
