John Gill was a 18th century minister who is known as the first major writing Baptist theologian. Gill pastored the New Park Street Chapel which later became the Metropolitan Tabernacle in which the famous C.H. Spurgeon pastored a hundred years later. He was a profound scholar and prolific author. His verse-by-verse exposition of the Bible took 17 years to complete and is revered by scholars around the world for its in-depth detail and is the largest commentary written by a single person.
