5 Now G1161 she that is a widow G5503 indeed, G3689 and G2532 desolate, G3443 trusteth G1679 in G1909 God, G2316 and G2532 continueth G4357 in supplications G1162 and G2532 prayers G4335 night G3571 and G2532 day. G2250
Honour G5091 widows G5503 that are widows G5503 indeed. G3689
But G1161 I would have G1511 G2309 you G5209 without carefulness. G275 He that is unmarried G22 careth G3309 for the things that belong to G3588 the Lord, G2962 how G4459 he may please G700 the Lord: G2962
By G1223 whom G3739 we have received G2983 grace G5485 and G2532 apostleship, G651 for G1519 obedience G5218 to the faith G4102 among G1722 all G3956 nations, G1484 for G5228 his G846 name: G3686
Praying G4336 always G1722 G2540 G3956 with G1223 all G3956 prayer G4335 and G2532 supplication G1162 in G1722 the Spirit, G4151 and G2532 watching G69 thereunto G1519 G5124 G846 with G1722 all G3956 perseverance G4343 and G2532 supplication G1162 for G4012 all G3956 saints; G40
There is difference also between G3307 a wife G1135 and G2532 a virgin. G3933 The unmarried woman G22 careth for G3309 the things G3588 of the Lord, G2962 that G2443 she may be G5600 holy G40 both G2532 in body G4983 and G2532 in spirit: G4151 but G1161 she that is married G1060 careth G3309 for the things G3588 of the world, G2889 how G4459 she may please G700 her husband. G435
For G1063 the invisible things G517 of him G846 from G575 the creation G2937 of the world G2889 are clearly seen, G2529 being understood G3539 by the things that are made, G4161 even G5037 his G846 eternal G126 power G1411 and G2532 Godhead; G2305 so G1519 that they G846 are G1511 without excuse: G379 Because G1360 that, when they knew G1097 God, G2316 they glorified G1392 him not G3756 as G5613 God, G2316 neither G2228 were thankful; G2168 but G235 became vain G3154 in G1722 their G846 imaginations, G1261 and G2532 their G846 foolish G801 heart G2588 was darkened. G4654
Unto G1519 which G3739 promise our G2257 twelve tribes, G1429 instantly G1722 G1616 serving G3000 God day G2250 and G2532 night, G3571 hope G1679 to come. G2658 For G4012 which G3739 hope's sake, G1680 king G935 Agrippa, G67 I am accused G1458 of G5259 the Jews. G2453
And G1161 shall G1557 not G3364 God G2316 avenge G1557 his own G846 elect, G1588 G4160 which G3588 cry G994 day G2250 and G2532 night G3571 unto G4314 him, G846 though G2532 he bear long G3114 with G1909 them? G846
Sing, H7442 O barren, H6135 thou that didst not bear; H3205 break forth H6476 into singing, H7440 and cry aloud, H6670 thou that didst not travail with child: H2342 for more H7227 are the children H1121 of the desolate H8074 than the children H1121 of the married wife, H1166 saith H559 the LORD. H3068
Who is among you that feareth H3373 the LORD, H3068 that obeyeth H8085 the voice H6963 of his servant, H5650 that walketh H1980 in darkness, H2825 and hath no light? H5051 let him trust H982 in the name H8034 of the LORD, H3068 and stay H8172 upon his God. H430
Then shalt thou say H559 in thine heart, H3824 Who hath begotten H3205 me these, seeing I have lost my children, H7921 and am desolate, H1565 a captive, H1540 and removing to and fro? H5493 and who hath brought up H1431 these? Behold, I was left H7604 alone; these, where H375 had they been?
Behold, God H410 is my salvation; H3444 I will trust, H982 and not be afraid: H6342 for the LORD H3050 JEHOVAH H3068 is my strength H5797 and my song; H2176 he also is become my salvation. H3444

Commentary on 1 Timothy 5 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 5
Here the apostle,
1Ti 5:1-2
Here the apostle gives rules to Timothy, and in him to other ministers, in reproving. Ministers are reprovers by office; it is a part, though the least pleasing part, of their office; they are to preach the word, to reprove and rebuke, 2 Tim. 4:2. A great difference is to be made in our reproofs, according to the age, quality, and other circumstances, of the persons rebuked; thus, and elder in age or office must be entreated as a father; on some have compassion, making a difference, Jude 22. Now the rule is,

Directions are here given concerning the taking of widows into the number of those who were employed by the church and had maintenance from the church: Honour widows that are widows indeed. Honour them, that is, maintain them, admit them into office. There was in those times an office in the church in which widows were employed, and that was to tend the sick and the aged, to look to them by the direction of the deacons. We read of the care taken of widows immediately upon the first forming of the Christian church (Acts 6:1), where the Grecians thought their widows were neglected in the daily ministration and provision made for poor widows. The general rule is to honour widows that are widows indeed, to maintain them, to relieve them with respect and tenderness.
