3 Then H116 this H1836 Daniel H1841 was H1934 preferred H5330 above H5922 the presidents H5632 and princes, H324 because H3606 H6903 an excellent H3493 spirit H7308 was in him; and the king H4430 thought H6246 to set H6966 him over H5922 the whole H3606 realm. H4437
Forasmuch as H6903 H3606 an excellent H3493 spirit, H7308 and knowledge, H4486 and understanding, H7924 interpreting H6590 of dreams, H2493 and shewing H263 of hard sentences, H280 and dissolving H8271 of doubts, H7001 were found H7912 in the same Daniel, H1841 whom the king H4430 named H7761 H8036 Belteshazzar: H1096 now H3705 let Daniel H1841 be called, H7123 and he will shew H2324 the interpretation. H6591
For Mordecai H4782 the Jew H3064 was next H4932 unto king H4428 Ahasuerus, H325 and great H1419 among the Jews, H3064 and accepted H7521 of the multitude H7230 of his brethren, H251 seeking H1875 the wealth H2896 of his people, H5971 and speaking H1696 peace H7965 to all his seed. H2233
And Pharaoh H6547 said H559 unto his servants, H5650 Can we find H4672 such a one as this H2088 is, a man H376 in whom H834 the Spirit H7307 of God H430 is? And Pharaoh H6547 said H559 unto Joseph, H3130 Forasmuch H310 as God H430 hath shewed H3045 thee all this, there is none so discreet H995 and wise H2450 as thou art: Thou shalt be H1961 over my house, H1004 and according unto thy word H6310 shall all my people H5971 be ruled: H5401 only in the throne H3678 will I be greater H1431 than thou. And Pharaoh H6547 said H559 unto Joseph, H3130 See, H7200 I have set H5414 thee over all the land H776 of Egypt. H4714
Then I saw H7200 that H3426 wisdom H2451 excelleth H3504 folly, H5531 as far as light H216 excelleth H3504 darkness. H2822
At the beginning H8462 of thy supplications H8469 the commandment H1697 came forth, H3318 and I am come H935 to shew H5046 thee; for thou art greatly beloved: H2532 therefore understand H995 the matter, H1697 and consider H995 the vision. H4758

Commentary on Daniel 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
Daniel does not give a continued history of the reigns in which he lived, nor of the state-affairs of the kingdoms of Chaldea and Persia, though he was himself a great man in those affairs; for what are those to us? But he selects such particular passages of story as serve for the confirming of our faith in God and the encouraging of our obedience to him, for the things written aforetime were written for our learning. It is a very observable improvable story that we have in this chapter, how Daniel by faith "stopped the mouths of lions,' and so "obtained a good report,' Heb. 11:33. The three children were cast into the fiery furnace for not committing a known sin, Daniel was cast into the lions' den for not omitting a known duty, and God's miraculously delivering both them and him is left upon record for the encouragement of his servants in all ages to be resolute and constant both in their abhorrence of that which is evil and in their adherence to that which is good, whatever it cost them. In this chapter we have,
And this God is our God for ever and ever.

We are told concerning Daniel,
Dan 6:6-10
Daniel's adversaries could have no advantage against him from any law now in being; they therefore contrive a new law, by which they hope to ensnare him, and in a matter in which they knew they should be sure of him; and such was his fidelity to his God that they gained their point. Here is,

Darius here studies to make some amends for the dishonour he had done both to God and Daniel, in casting Daniel into the lions' den, by doing honour to both.
