4 The heart H3820 of the wise H2450 is in the house H1004 of mourning; H60 but the heart H3820 of fools H3684 is in the house H1004 of mirth. H8057
Belshazzar H1113 the king H4430 made H5648 a great H7229 feast H3900 to a thousand H506 of his lords, H7261 and drank H8355 wine H2562 before H6903 the thousand. H506 Belshazzar, H1113 whiles he tasted H2942 the wine, H2562 commanded H560 to bring H858 the golden H1722 and silver H3702 vessels H3984 which his father H2 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 had taken H5312 out of H4481 the temple H1965 which was in Jerusalem; H3390 that the king, H4430 and his princes, H7261 his wives, H7695 and his concubines, H3904 might drink H8355 therein. Then H116 they brought H858 the golden H1722 vessels H3984 that were taken H5312 out of H4481 the temple H1965 of the house H1005 of God H426 which was at Jerusalem; H3390 and the king, H4430 and his princes, H7261 his wives, H7695 and his concubines, H3904 drank H8355 in them. They drank H8355 wine, H2562 and praised H7624 the gods H426 of gold, H1722 and of silver, H3702 of brass, H5174 of iron, H6523 of wood, H636 and of stone. H69
The Jews G2453 then G3767 which G3588 were G5607 with G3326 her G846 in G1722 the house, G3614 and G2532 comforted G3888 her, G846 when they saw G1492 Mary, G3137 that G3754 she rose up G450 hastily G5030 and G2532 went out, G1831 followed G190 her, G846 saying, G3004 G3754 She goeth G5217 unto G1519 the grave G3419 to G2443 weep G2799 there. G1563 Then G3767 when G5613 Mary G3137 was come G2064 where G3699 Jesus G2424 was, G2258 and saw G1492 him, G846 she fell down G4098 at G1519 his G846 feet, G4228 saying G3004 unto him, G846 Lord, G2962 if G1487 thou hadst been G2258 here, G5602 my G3450 brother G80 had G302 not G3756 died. G599 When G5613 Jesus G2424 therefore G3767 saw G1492 her G846 weeping, G2799 and G2532 the Jews G2453 also weeping G2799 which came G4905 with her, G846 he groaned G1690 in the spirit, G4151 and G2532 was troubled, G5015 G1438 And G2532 said, G2036 Where G4226 have ye laid G5087 him? G846 They said G3004 unto him, G846 Lord, G2962 come G2064 and G2532 see. G1492 Jesus G2424 wept. G1145
Now G1161 when G5613 he came nigh G1448 to the gate G4439 of the city, G4172 behold, G2532 G2400 there was G1580 a dead man G2348 carried out, G1580 the only G3439 son G5207 of his G846 mother, G3384 and G2532 she G846 was G2258 a widow: G5503 and G2532 much G2425 people G3793 of the city G4172 was G2258 with G4862 her. G846 And G2532 when the Lord G2962 saw G1492 her, G846 he had compassion G4697 on G1909 her, G846 and G2532 said G2036 unto her, G846 Weep G2799 not. G3361
And G2532 when a convenient G2121 day G2250 was come, G1096 that G3753 Herod G2264 on his G846 birthday G1077 made G4160 a supper G1173 to his G846 lords, G3175 G2532 high captains, G5506 and G2532 chief G4413 estates of Galilee; G1056 And G2532 when the daughter G2364 of the said G846 Herodias G2266 came in, G1525 and G2532 danced, G3738 and G2532 pleased G700 Herod G2264 and G2532 them that sat with him, G4873 the king G935 said G2036 unto the damsel, G2877 Ask G154 of me G3165 whatsoever G3739 G1437 thou wilt, G2309 and G2532 I will give G1325 it thee. G4671 And G2532 he sware G3660 unto her, G846 Whatsoever G3754 G3739 G1437 thou shalt ask G154 of me, G3165 I will give G1325 it thee, G4671 unto G2193 the half G2255 of my G3450 kingdom. G932 And G1161 she went forth, G1831 and said G2036 unto her G846 mother, G3384 What G5101 shall I ask? G154 And G1161 she said, G2036 The head G2776 of John G2491 the Baptist. G910 And G2532 she came in G1525 straightway G2112 with G3326 haste G4710 unto G4314 the king, G935 and asked, G154 saying, G3004 I will G2309 that G2443 thou give G1325 me G3427 by and by G1824 in G1909 a charger G4094 the head G2776 of John G2491 the Baptist. G910 And G2532 the king G935 was G1096 exceeding sorry; G4036 yet for G1223 his oath's sake, G3727 and G2532 for their sakes which G3588 sat with him, G4873 he would G2309 not G3756 reject G114 her. G846 And G2532 immediately G2112 the king G935 sent G649 an executioner, G4688 and commanded G2004 his G846 head G2776 to be brought: G5342 and G1161 he went G565 and beheaded G607 him G846 in G1722 the prison, G5438 And G2532 brought G5342 his G846 head G2776 in G1909 a charger, G4094 and G2532 gave G1325 it G846 to the damsel: G2877 and G2532 the damsel G2877 gave G1325 it G846 to her G846 mother. G3384 And G2532 when his G846 disciples G3101 heard G191 of it, they came G2064 and G2532 took up G142 his G846 corpse, G4430 and G2532 laid G5087 it G846 in G1722 a tomb. G3419
And G2532 he cometh G2064 to G1519 the house G3624 of the ruler of the synagogue, G752 and G2532 seeth G2334 the tumult, G2351 and them that wept G2799 and G2532 wailed G214 greatly. G4183 And G2532 when he was come in, G1525 he saith G3004 unto them, G846 Why G5101 make ye this ado, G2350 and G2532 weep? G2799 the damsel G3813 is G599 not G3756 dead, G599 but G235 sleepeth. G2518 And G2532 they laughed G2606 him G846 to scorn. G2606 But G1161 when he had put G1544 them all G537 out, G1544 he taketh G3880 the father G3962 and G2532 the mother G3384 of the damsel, G3813 and G2532 them that were with G3326 him, G846 and G2532 entereth in G1531 where G3699 the damsel G3813 was G2258 lying. G345 And G2532 he took G2902 the damsel G3813 by the hand, G5495 and said G3004 unto her, G846 Talitha G5008 cumi; G2891 which G3739 is, G2076 being interpreted, G3177 Damsel, G2877 I say G3004 unto thee, G4671 arise. G1453 And G2532 straightway G2112 the damsel G2877 arose, G450 and G2532 walked; G4043 for G1063 she was G2258 of the age of twelve G1427 years. G2094 And G2532 they were astonished G1839 with a great G3173 astonishment. G1611 And G2532 he charged G1291 them G846 straitly G4183 that G2443 no man G3367 should know G1097 it; G5124 and G2532 commanded G2036 that something should be given G1325 her G846 to eat. G5315
And G2532 when Jesus G2424 was come G2064 into G1519 Peter's G4074 house, G3614 he saw G1492 his G846 wife's mother G3994 laid, G906 and G2532 sick of a fever. G4445 And G2532 he touched G680 her G846 hand, G5495 and G2532 the fever G4446 left G863 her: G846 and G2532 she arose, G1453 and G2532 ministered G1247 unto them. G846 When G1161 the even G3798 was come, G1096 they brought G4374 unto him G846 many G4183 that were possessed with devils: G1139 and G2532 he cast out G1544 the spirits G4151 with his word, G3056 and G2532 healed G2323 all G3956 that were G2192 sick: G2560
He is despised H959 and rejected H2310 of men; H376 a man H376 of sorrows, H4341 and acquainted H3045 with grief: H2483 and we hid as it were H4564 our faces H6440 from him; he was despised, H959 and we esteemed H2803 him not. Surely H403 he hath borne H5375 our griefs, H2483 and carried H5445 our sorrows: H4341 yet we did esteem H2803 him stricken, H5060 smitten H5221 of God, H430 and afflicted. H6031
Wherefore the king H4428 said H559 unto me, Why is thy countenance H6440 sad, H7451 seeing thou art not sick? H2470 this is nothing else but sorrow H7455 of heart. H3820 Then I was very H3966 sore H7235 afraid, H3372 And said H559 unto the king, H4428 Let the king H4428 live H2421 for ever: H5769 why should not my countenance H6440 be sad, H3415 when the city, H5892 the place H1004 of my fathers' H1 sepulchres, H6913 lieth waste, H2720 and the gates H8179 thereof are consumed H398 with fire? H784 Then the king H4428 said H559 unto me, For what dost thou make request? H1245 So I prayed H6419 to the God H430 of heaven. H8064 And I said H559 unto the king, H4428 If it please H2895 the king, H4428 and if thy servant H5650 have found favour H3190 in thy sight, H6440 that thou wouldest send H7971 me unto Judah, H3063 unto the city H5892 of my fathers' H1 sepulchres, H6913 that I may build H1129 it.

Commentary on Ecclesiastes 7 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 7
Solomon had given many proofs and instances of the vanity of this world and the things of it; now, in this chapter,
Ecc 7:1-6
In these verses Solomon lays down some great truths which seem paradoxes to the unthinking part, that is, the far greatest part, of mankind.
Ecc 7:7-10
Solomon had often complained before of the oppressions which he saw under the sun, which gave occasion for many melancholy speculations and were a great discouragement to virtue and piety. Now here,
Ecc 7:11-22
Solomon, in these verses, recommends wisdom to us as the best antidote against those distempers of mind which we are liable to, by reason of the vanity and vexation of spirit that there are in the things of this world. Here are some of the praises and the precepts of wisdom.
Ecc 7:23-29
Solomon had hitherto been proving the vanity of the world and its utter insufficiency to make men happy; now here he comes to show the vileness of sin, and its certain tendency to make men miserable; and this, as the former, he proves from his own experience, and it was a dear-bought experience. He is here, more than any where in all this book, putting on the habit of a penitent. He reviews what he had been discoursing of already, and tells us that what he had said was what he knew and was well assured of, and what he resolved to stand by: All this have I proved by wisdom, v. 23. Now here,
