20 Be not among winebibbers; H3196 H5433 among riotous eaters H2151 of flesh: H1320
Woe H1945 unto them that are mighty H1368 to drink H8354 wine, H3196 and men H582 of strength H2428 to mingle H4537 strong drink: H7941
Whoso keepeth H5341 the law H8451 is a wise H995 son: H1121 but he that is a companion H7462 of riotous H2151 men shameth H3637 his father. H1
Woe H1945 unto them that rise up early H7925 in the morning, H1242 that they may follow H7291 strong drink; H7941 that continue H309 until night, H5399 till wine H3196 inflame H1814 them!
And G1161 take heed G4337 to yourselves, G1438 lest at any time G3379 your G5216 hearts G2588 be overcharged G925 with G1722 surfeiting, G2897 and G2532 drunkenness, G3178 and G2532 cares G3308 of this life, G982 and G2532 so that G1565 day G2250 come G2186 upon G1909 you G5209 unawares. G160
Wine H3196 is a mocker, H3887 strong drink H7941 is raging: H1993 and whosoever is deceived H7686 thereby is not wise. H2449
And G2532 shall begin G756 to smite G5180 his fellowservants, G4889 and G1161 to eat G2068 and G2532 drink G4095 with G3326 the drunken; G3184
Who hath woe? H188 who hath sorrow? H17 who hath contentions? H4079 H4066 who hath babbling? H7879 who hath wounds H6482 without cause? H2600 who hath redness H2448 of eyes? H5869 They that tarry long H309 at the wine; H3196 they that go H935 to seek H2713 mixed wine. H4469 Look H7200 not thou upon the wine H3196 when it is red, H119 when it giveth H5414 his colour H5869 in the cup, H3563 H3599 when it moveth H1980 itself aright. H4339 At the last H319 it biteth H5391 like a serpent, H5175 and stingeth H6567 like an adder. H6848 Thine eyes H5869 shall behold H7200 strange women, H2114 and thine heart H3820 shall utter H1696 perverse things. H8419 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down H7901 in the midst H3820 of the sea, H3220 or as he that lieth H7901 upon the top H7218 of a mast. H2260 They have stricken H5221 me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; H2470 they have beaten H1986 me, and I felt H3045 it not: when shall I awake? H6974 I will seek H1245 it yet H3254 again.
Give H5414 strong drink H7941 unto him that is ready to perish, H6 and wine H3196 unto those that be of heavy H4751 hearts. H5315 Let him drink, H8354 and forget H7911 his poverty, H7389 and remember H2142 his misery H5999 no more.
And behold joy H8342 and gladness, H8057 slaying H2026 oxen, H1241 and killing H7819 sheep, H6629 eating H398 flesh, H1320 and drinking H8354 wine: H3196 let us eat H398 and drink; H8354 for to morrow H4279 we shall die. H4191
G1161 There was G2258 a certain G5100 rich G4145 man, G444 which G2532 was clothed G1737 in purple G4209 and G2532 fine linen, G1040 and fared G2165 sumptuously G2988 every G2596 day: G2250
For G1063 the time G5550 past G3928 of our life G979 may suffice G713 us G2254 to have wrought G2716 the will G2307 of the Gentiles, G1484 when we walked G4198 in G1722 lasciviousness, G766 lusts, G1939 excess of wine, G3632 revellings, G2970 banquetings, G4224 and G2532 abominable G111 idolatries: G1495 Wherein G1722 G3739 they think it strange G3579 that ye G5216 run G4936 not G3361 with them to G1519 the same G846 excess G401 of riot, G810 speaking evil of G987 you:

Commentary on Proverbs 23 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 23
Pro 23:1-3
The sin we are here warned against is luxury and sensuality, and the indulgence of the appetite in eating and drinking, a sin that most easily besets us.
Pro 23:4-5
As some are given to appetite (v. 2) so others to covetousness, and those Solomon here takes to task. Men cheat themselves as much by setting their hearts on money (though it seems most substantial) as by setting them on dainties. Observe,
Pro 23:6-8
Those that are voluptuous and given to appetite (v. 2) are glad to be where there is good cheer stirring, and those that are covetous and saving, that they may spare at home, will be glad to get a dinner at another man's table; and therefore both are here advised not to be forward to accept of every man's invitation, but especially not to thrust themselves in uninvited. Observe,
Pro 23:9
We are here directed not to cast pearls before swine (Mt. 7:6) and not to expose things sacred to the contempt and ridicule of profane scoffers. It is our duty to take all fit occasions to speak of divine things; but,

Here is good advice for parents to give to their children; words are put into their mouths, that they may train them up in the way they should go. Here we have,

Solomon here gives fair warning against the sin of drunkenness, to confirm what he had said, v. 20.
