7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me. You will stretch forth your hand against the wrath of my enemies. Your right hand will save me.
You, who have shown us many and bitter troubles, You will let me live. You will bring us up again from the depths of the earth. Increase my honor, And comfort me again.
He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Therefore Yahweh's anger burns against his people, And he has stretched out his hand against them, and has struck them. The mountains tremble, And their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this, his anger is not turned away, But his hand is still stretched out.
Don't you be afraid, for I am with you; don't be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
Won't you revive us again, That your people may rejoice in you?
Don't rejoice against me, my enemy. When I fall, I will arise. When I sit in darkness, Yahweh will be a light to me. I will bear the indignation of Yahweh, Because I have sinned against him, Until he pleads my case, and executes judgment for me. He will bring me forth to the light. I will see his righteousness. Then my enemy will see it, And shame will cover her who said to me, Where is Yahweh your God? Then my enemy will see me and will cover her shame. Now she will be trodden down like the mire of the streets.
So that your beloved may be delivered, Save with your right hand, and answer us.
But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. After my skin is destroyed, Then in my flesh shall I see God,
Behold, I am against you, destroying mountain, says Yahweh, which destroy all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand on you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt mountain.
They shall only bow down under the prisoners, and shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is profane and an evil-doer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Then I thought, "I will appeal to this: The years of the right hand of the Most High."
Behold, he will kill me; I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.
Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
> Blessed be Yahweh, my rock, Who teaches my hands to war, And my fingers to battle: My loving kindness, my fortress, My high tower, my deliverer, My shield, and he in whom I take refuge; Who subdues my people under me.
For you, God, have tested us. You have refined us, as silver is refined. You brought us into prison. You laid a burden on our backs. You allowed men to ride over our heads. We went through fire and through water, But you brought us to the place of abundance.
But God will shoot at them. They will be suddenly struck down with an arrow. Their own tongues shall ruin them. All who see them will shake their heads.
> Be merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up. All day long, he attacks and oppresses me. My enemies want to swallow me up all day long, For they are many who fight proudly against me.
Through you, will we push down our adversaries. Through your name, will we tread them under who rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me. But you have saved us from our adversaries, And have shamed those who hate us.
> Contend, Yahweh, with those who contend with me. Fight against those who fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, And stand up for my help. Brandish the spear and block those who pursue me. Tell my soul, "I am your salvation."
Now I know that Yahweh saves his anointed. He will answer him from his holy heaven, With the saving strength of his right hand.
Show your marvelous loving kindness, You who save those who take refuge by your right hand from their enemies.
For I will not contend forever, neither will I be always angry; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls who I have made.

Commentary on Psalms 138 Matthew Henry Commentary
Psalm 138
It does not appear, nor is it material to enquire, upon what occasion David penned this psalm; but in it,
In singing this psalm we must in like manner devote ourselves to God's praise and glory and repose ourselves in his power and goodness.
A psalm of David.
