37 Mark H8104 the perfect H8535 man, and behold H7200 the upright: H3477 for the end H319 of that man H376 is peace. H7965
And the work H4639 of righteousness H6666 shall be peace; H7965 and the effect H5656 of righteousness H6666 quietness H8252 and assurance H983 for H5704 ever. H5769
The righteous H6662 perisheth, H6 and no man H376 layeth H7760 it to heart: H3820 and merciful H2617 men H582 are taken away, H622 none considering H995 that the righteous H6662 is taken away H622 from H6440 the evil H7451 to come. He shall enter H935 into peace: H7965 they shall rest H5117 in their beds, H4904 each one walking H1980 in his uprightness. H5228
So the LORD H3068 blessed H1288 the latter end H319 of Job H347 more than his beginning: H7225 for he had fourteen H702 H6240 thousand H505 sheep, H6629 and six H8337 thousand H505 camels, H1581 and a thousand H505 yoke H6776 of oxen, H1241 and a thousand H505 she asses. H860 He had also seven H7658 sons H1121 and three H7969 daughters. H1323 And he called H7121 the name H8034 of the first, H259 Jemima; H3224 and the name H8034 of the second, H8145 Kezia; H7103 and the name H8034 of the third, H7992 Kerenhappuch. H7163 And in all the land H776 were no women H802 found H4672 so fair H3303 as the daughters H1323 of Job: H347 and their father H1 gave H5414 them inheritance H5159 among H8432 their brethren. H251 After H310 this lived H2421 Job H347 an hundred H3967 and forty H705 years, H8141 and saw H7200 his sons, H1121 and his sons' H1121 sons, H1121 even four H702 generations. H1755 So Job H347 died, H4191 being old H2205 and full H7649 of days. H3117
The wicked H7563 is driven away H1760 in his wickedness: H7451 but the righteous H6662 hath hope H2620 in his death. H4194
And, G2532 behold, G2400 there was G2258 a man G444 in G1722 Jerusalem, G2419 whose G3739 name G3686 was Simeon; G4826 and G2532 the same G3778 man G444 was just G1342 and G2532 devout, G2126 waiting G4327 for the consolation G3874 of Israel: G2474 and G2532 the Holy G40 Ghost G4151 was G2258 upon G1909 him. G846 And G2532 it was G2258 revealed G5537 unto him G846 by G5259 the Holy G40 Ghost, G4151 that he should G1492 not G3361 see G1492 death, G2288 before G4250 G2228 he had seen G1492 the Lord's G2962 Christ. G5547 And G2532 he came G2064 by G1722 the Spirit G4151 into G1519 the temple: G2411 and G2532 when the parents G1118 brought G1521 in G1722 the child G3813 Jesus, G2424 to do G4160 G846 for G4012 him G846 after G2596 the custom G1480 of the law, G3551 Then G2532 took G1209 he G846 him G846 up G1209 in G1519 his G846 arms, G43 and G2532 blessed G2127 God, G2316 and G2532 said, G2036 Lord, G1203 now G3568 lettest thou G630 thy G4675 servant G1401 depart G630 in G1722 peace, G1515 according G2596 to thy G4675 word: G4487
And G2532 they stoned G3036 Stephen, G4736 calling upon G1941 God, and G2532 saying, G3004 Lord G2962 Jesus, G2424 receive G1209 my G3450 spirit. G4151 And G1161 he kneeled down, G5087 G1119 and cried G2896 with a loud G3173 voice, G5456 Lord, G2962 lay G2476 not G3361 this G5026 sin G266 to their G846 charge. And G2532 when he had said G2036 this, G5124 he fell asleep. G2837
For G1063 I G1473 am G4689 now G2235 ready to be offered, G4689 and G2532 the time G2540 of my G1699 departure G359 is at hand. G2186 I have fought G75 a good G2570 fight, G73 I have finished G5055 my course, G1408 I have kept G5083 the faith: G4102 Henceforth G3063 there is laid up G606 for me G3427 a crown G4735 of righteousness, G1343 which G3739 the Lord, G2962 the righteous G1342 judge, G2923 shall give G591 me G3427 at G1722 that G1565 day: G2250 and G1161 not G3756 to me G1698 only, G3440 but G235 unto all them G3956 also G2532 that love G25 his G846 appearing. Commentary on Psalms 37 Matthew Henry Commentary
Psalm 37
This psalm is a sermon, and an excellent useful sermon it is, calculated not (as most of the psalms) for our devotion, but for our conversation; there is nothing in it of prayer or praise, but it is all instruction; it is "Maschil-a teaching psalm;' it is an exposition of some of the hardest chapters in the book of Providence, the advancement of the wicked and the disgrace of the righteous, a solution of the difficulties that arise thereupon, and an exhortation to conduct ourselves as becomes us under such dark dispensations. The work of the prophets (and David was one) was to explain the law. Now the law of Moses had promised temporal blessings to the obedient, and denounced temporal miseries against the disobedient, which principally referred to the body of the people, the nation as a nation; for, when they came to be applied to particular persons, many instances occurred of sinners in prosperity and saints in adversity; to reconcile those instances with the word that God had spoken is the scope of the prophet in this psalm, in which,
In singing this psalm we must teach and admonish one another rightly to understand the providence of God and to accommodate ourselves to it, at all times carefully to do our duty and then patiently to leave the event with God and to believe that, how black soever things may look for the present, it shall be "well with those that fear God, that fear before him.'
A psalm of David.
Psa 37:1-6
The instructions here given are very plain; much need not be said for the exposition of them, but there is a great deal to be done for the reducing of them to practice, and there they will look best.
Psa 37:7-20
In these verses we have,
Psa 37:21-33
These verses are much to the same purport with the foregoing verses of this psalm, for it is a subject worthy to be dwelt upon. Observe here,
Psa 37:34-40
The psalmist's conclusion of this sermon (for that is the nature of this poem) is of the same purport with the whole, and inculcates the same things.
